First unit had a faulty headphone socket, so best to check this out as soon as you get one. However, once I got a replacement unit, this really lives up to the hype. I'm addicted to it! I've had it less than a week and I cannot spend enough time on it. YouTube is a great source of info for getting started. The depth of capability for such a portable unit is incredible and the graphics screen is really engaging. I'm only just starting with music production and the tactile, hands on feel of this unit and the ease at which you can start creating, is great for me. I wanted something that was portable and this is like a studio in your back pack!

Liberating. DAWs are great but this is free from latency issues and takes you back, in a good way, to an altogether simpler and more direct way of recording producing and arranging sound. Yes it takes some learning to get familiar with but it's worth it. It's a robust well made briliantly designed piece of kit. I love it!

OP1 suddenly stopped turning on. It was plenty charged and I had used it a few hours prior. I am scared to recommend this product. For $1200 or whatever is msrp, it better not break! If it does they better fix it for free or reasonable cost. Company Teenage Engineering recommended said it would take a $50 repair quote plus cost of repairs. There are diy repair guides but who knows what exactly is wrong and some oem parts are hard to find. It was a lot of fun when it worked but its definitely not for everyone. You have to make your own fun (and music!) with it, it's completely what you make it. It made me appreciate the ease of production on a computer! This is my first synth/electronic instrument and i have not been able to put it down since i got it. It took about 4 hours to learn the basics but im still learning features after a month of solid use. Its a beautiful and well designed instrument that just makes me feel inspired to create just because its so much fun and intuitive to use. Im sure there are more powerful workstation synths out there and you could always get a computer and midi controller but i like being able to just turn the power on and start jamming no matter where im at. Kind of like a music sketchbook. Its also a great live instrument. Had a lot of fun jamming with friends laying down loops or playing keys. I think its worth the price if you feel like the workflow is right for you. Like i said ... MoreThis is my first synth/electronic instrument and i have not been able to put it down since i got it. I think its worth the price if you feel like the workflow is right for you. Like i said it makes me inspired to create because of the design and interface even though the tech is quite dated. That said, i love playing with the synth engines and lfos. Dont care that its 10 years old, i still have a great time crafting sounds and making tracks. Now that i got the bug im sure ill buid a modular at some point but i feel like this is the perfect gateway instrument. Also perfect circuit is awesome. Im glad to support local business. They shipped super fast and packed it with lots of bubble packs. Definitely gonna order from them as i get more gear.
I have had many synths, samplers, and drum machines but none like this. It has it all powerful synth engines, so many built in sounds, effects, and then the variable speed TAPE RECORDER function just completes the package and takes it all to the next level for experimentation and keeping it all from ever getting old. Is it worth the $1000+ that people are paying? Maybe not and you can find other gadgets to level up with. But I got it for ~$800 and between this and my 404 I feel I am set for life. Just yesterday I sampled a sound my son made, spread it across the keys and multi-tracked a beat with it in minutes, all without a computer. There is still so much I have to learn with it and I dont expect to ever find something I cant feasibly accomplish with it.
Bought as a gift for my son. But the screen died in a few days. Up until then he really like this kit.Teenage Engineering were utterly useless and completely unhelpful. If it weren't for their terrible customer service I'd have asked Andertons for a replacement. As it was. I asked Andertons for a full refund. Andertons were brilliant. Teenage Engineering... Well insert a few bad words as comments...Highly recommend Andertons as a company.
So Ive been playing guitar for about 15 years now. Love my axes. But sometimes I hit creative blocks and need something to inspire the song writing process. Not only has this gadget inspired me-it blew me away. It is so much fun to play. Not to mention, it sounds incredible. Only drawback is that Its expensive. But worth it when considering its quality of build features and sound.
The OP-1 is an incredible machine with numerous features that make music creation fun and dynamic. Not only is this device intuitively laid out, it is also built to last. Each knob, key, and button, along with its metal body give it the feeling of sturdiness. The OP-1 is excellent for music production, and integrates seamlessly with your music software (I use Logic Pro X). The device features an extensive selection of synthesizers, sequencers, sounds, drum machines and FX, along with countless other features. If you're looking for an all in one music production workstation, this is the one.

i've wanted an op-1 since i was in high school, to say it was worth the wait would be an understatement. this thing really blows me away, it's an all in one lil machine that you can constantly find new stuff to do with and new ways to play. along with a beautiful screen and amazing charm, this synth is very flexible in terms of how much i can do with it. pairing this with pocket operators or an op-z or not, and this is really all you need. throw in your own samples through line in or usb, and your pallet is limitless. i love to use samples from analog machines like my moog, it does not disappoint.
The OP-1 field represents over a decade of musical innovation packed into one revolutionary portable synthesiser. This natural evolution of the beloved original features stereo signal processing throughout, Bluetooth MIDI connectivity, USB-C charging, and an impressive 24-hour battery life. The redesigned aluminium body sits lower around the keyboard for a lighter, more precise feel, while the new speaker system with passive driver produces detailed, powerful sound that defies its compact size. Professional musicians and sound designers will appreciate the enhanced sampling capabilities, with the new stereo sample engine offering up to 20 seconds of recording time and dual layer mode for instant A/B channel mixing. Four distinct recording formats—studio 4-track, vintage 4-track, Porta and Disc Mini—each bring their own sonic character and visual identity. With support for up to 8 tapes or discs total, creative possibilities expand dramatically beyond the original's limitations. As part of Teenage Engineering's field system, the OP-1 field pairs seamlessly with the TX-6 portable mixer to create an incredibly powerful, battery-powered recording and performance setup. Full compatibility with iOS, macOS and Windows, combined with high-resolution audio and MIDI interconnectivity, makes this the most capable portable music production system available today. A recent firmware update adds the iconic vocoder to the OP-1 field's sonic arsenal—the same technology that shaped electronic music through artists like Kraftwerk, Herbie Hancock and Daft Punk. Now you can sculpt and synthesise vocals directly on the device without additional gear, bringing decades of electronic music history to your fingertips.
