I have always thought that this was a great invention in the world of footwear. Had them since 1992.The previous Teva sandals I had, Torin M's, had arch support and contour and worked well for me to do a bit of walking in. That model was no longer available so I purchased Original Universals. The sole of this model is completely flat, which sometimes results in catching the front on something and tripping. Also, right and left are not mirror image fit with the straps so I am further forward with my right foot. Overall I am disappointed with these new Tevas.

I've owned a couple of Forebay-style Tevas, including one pair that I still use for work in the garden and yard. The Original Universals have been a disappointment. The footbed is rough, and they provide little upper support. Based on others I'd seen wearing Tevas, I thought I was getting more all-around outdoor footwear. Velcro can be a little irritating. Flimsier than I expected. Customer service was of little value when I called.

I bought these for a very specific purpose, which was as a lightweight camp shoe to take backpacking. For this purpose, they're great. However, I would not buy these as my only sport sandal. I can walk miles and miles in Chacos, on pavement or dirt, but I started getting shin splints when I tried taking a little walk around my neighborhood in these. I also think they're less stylish that Chacos and some of the other sport sandals, but that's mostly preference I guess.

These are good sandals overall. I give them four stars only because the insole took me a little getting used to. There are lots of very small bumps on the insole, and it didn't hurt or feel uncomfortable, just weird at first. This was my first pair of Tevas and they are pretty comfortable overall. Felt secure walking in them around the beach and town, and while driving too. The straps are easy to adjust as needed.
I've mostly been a flip flop guy, but recently I decided that I wanted a more secure sandal. I'd never had a pair of Teva before, and decided these were a better fit for my needs than others. And I was right! I wear them all day long on the weekends. They're secure, comfortable, and all around nice. I wear them to the beach and don't have to worry about getting them wet- they're made for it!I think the sizing is about right, and the fit is good. I hope to use these for a long time, but when they're done, I'll recycle them and buy another pair of Teva!
I don't normally wear Tevas but these are good for a few reasons given the purpose I use them for. They are light weight, they don't have a bunch of buckles and areas that cause blisters and they're comfortable. I can use them with my hiking socks on or bare footed. I can use them for just lounging around camp or for a river crossing to protect my feet. I don't use these as everyday shoes so I cannot attest to their long-term viability but they 100% meet the use case for why I purchased them.
I love the design of these sandals, but a few factors keep them from being real winners.1.) The nylon straps cut into my skin. Even after miles of break-in, the straps are simply too rough.2.) The sandals could use better traction. Their current sole prevents them from inspiring confidence in slippery conditions.3.) The price is too high for what is basically some foam and nylon straps.Again, the design and concept of this product is fantastic. It just needs better materials and a more competitive price to make them stand out. Please note I will most likely purchase an upgraded Teva offering such as the Hurricane XLT2.
I had what I thought were the ideal Teva sandals, that looked like these, except for the fact that the soles were not the same. I didn't realize that when I ordered them, but took a chance since they were titled "original". Well, the original soles on my Teva sandals that lasted about 10 years, were what I thought I was getting. They were formed and two layer. Eventually they died, and I wanted to replace them. The construction of these sandals felt cheap when I received them, so I called Teva. The rep didn't tell me that what I wanted is still available in a more expensive model, and so I wore the Universal and am still wearing them, but returned the second pair that I ordered with the same sole. It is the cheapness of the sole that I am not happy with and because ... MoreI had what I thought were the ideal Teva sandals, that looked like these, except for the fact that the soles were not the same. It is the cheapness of the sole that I am not happy with and because of the multiple 3 layers, my feeling is that they won't last as long as I wish. I hike, walk on and in the ocean, streams etc with these on, so I guess I will see how long they last. I would not rebuy these, but would go with the non light weight sole of the Hurricaine or Terra F1, which seem to be a much more durable sandal, and what I did not see when I ordered the ones I did.
These are not my first Teva sandals, have worn them for years, still have a couple pair. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that these particular sandals have a knobby semi rough surface on the insole, (the part the bottom of your foot touches), which isn't all that uncomfortable, but it's impossible to not feel it. I hope and expect that will flatten out over time, but for now it's like getting a foot massage from the bottom up. When I remove them my feet actually tingle a bit because of those little hard(ish) rubber pyramids. That doesn't make them unpleasant to wear, I'll get used to it, it's just something I noticed and wanted to share. Otherwise, like all Tevas I expect these to last years, and I truly love the drab green straps; now I can color coordinate!
I got this on recommendation from friends. I understand that they are meant to act like a cross between flip flops and hiking shoes but to me I thought they were neither rugged enough to hike or comfy enough to wear to the beach. Personally I would just rather wear hiking boots or flip flops or crocs. Just didn't suit my needs very well but I can see the appeal for people who don't need them to be as good on the trails. Admittedly I may have used them on rougher terrain than they are intended for but I was not very satisfied. Also the second my feet started to sweat I felt like I was walking on two slip and slides. My toes would hang over the shoe from the slippery soles.
