Thule ProRide 598 Roof Bike Carrier - Silver
The Thule Pro Ride 598 Locking Upright Cycle Carrier is a quick and convenient bike roof carrier. Thule have added in a revised clamp with extended lower jaw which holds your bike in place whilst you secure the wheel straps and tighten everything up. The integrated torque limited dial prevents over tightening on lightweight Carbon frames whilst ensuring the clamp is still secure. Deep and flexible padding integrated into the 598's jaws adapts to the shape of your frame giving a more secure hold whilst minimising the chances of damage. Smartly designed wheel holders with diagonal straps for a larger contact area and more secure hold. Ratcheting pump-buckles make cinching them up a quick and easy task. The Clamp arm of the rack can be switched from one side to the other which allows you mounting options on both sides. Overall this is versatile roof rack that will keep your bike secure.

Fitted three of the Thule ProRide 598 bike racks to my Audi Q5 for transport of three mountain bikes - middle bike facing backwards. Racks easy to install on the roof bars and secured with screw down clamps - one locks. Bikes secured in place with lockable , ratchet style frame clamp and good quality wheel straps. Three bikes were very secure in transit.Needed small set of steps to help load and unload bikes to the roof bars of my Q5 as SUV quite tall.

Purchased these as a car change means I have no tow bar for existing bike rack and these 598 go along with my existing Thule Aero Wing bars we have. Went for this type rather than the other types as they have a “v” clamp which encloses fully around bike frame. First time using - easy assembly of clamp fittings - easily slid onto roof Wing bars and easy to “hook” the bike onto V before turning knob to secure V clamp and then securing wheels with straps. All secured nicely.(I added a short cam strap over front wheel and would probably use a Velcro strap around V fitting for peace of mind). Easy to use with Wing roof bars, easy to place bike onto V (we have a Ford Galaxy so roof quite high but a wee folding step helps a lot) and easily secured using turn knob. ... MorePurchased these as a car change means I have no tow bar for existing bike rack and these 598 go along with my existing Thule Aero Wing bars we have. I have stopped using this rack after my bike fell to many times whilst trying put it in the rack I can just reach so there's always the potential for some difficulty putting a bike up there and this carrier exacerbates the issue. Without a decent tray the front wheel wants to turn and fall off requiring the fork to be held while leaning the bike to get the clamp past the stays and crank, but if the tray is remotely damp the rear wheel will slip out instead. The big issue is the tray really doesn't keep the wheels in place. I've had a lot of Thule over the years but with the tray style these use, they're awful

I bought the 598 as it was one of the few recommended racks for the Tesla Model 3 roof bars. The supplied 20mm T-slot bolts fit the channel well although because the rubber in the channel does not come out the bolts don't slide along easily. A dab of fairy liquid solved that issue! The rack is basically fully assembled in the box so only needs to be attached to the roof bars, which took me no more than 15mins in all. Once installed, the rack feels solid and the one key locking system is brilliant. I tried both my standard frame mountain bike and my partner's Pendleton Somerby which has an unusual style step-through frame and both fitted perfectly in the large grip. I tried both my standard frame mountain bike and my partner's Pendleton Somerby which has an unusual style step-through frame and both fitted perfectly in the large grip. The integral torque limiter is also a great addition. Once the 2 snowboard binding style ratchets are secured on the wheels, the bike hardly moved at all. Also worth noting that although I'm not tall (5'7") I had no problem lifting the bikes up onto the roof as the grip arm holds the frame well while you tighten it down. One thing I didn't notice at first is a very handy is a place to clip the wheel straps in to keep them out of the way while lifting the bike on and off. Sadly I haven't actually driven with the bikes on yet due to lockdown cancelling the holiday, so can't comment on the driving aspect. Overall though I am very impressed and would definitely recommend.
Having been advised against other models, I didn’t really expect much from the cycle carrier. I mean, how can that silly little bar hold an E Bike? Boy was I wrong! This thing is solid! I can shake the bike with both hands and it just rocks the car on the suspension! Very adjustable to fit most bikes. It’s easier than you would think to get a bike up there. Get the wheels in the groove then stand it up with the bar up. Ratchet on the clamp, ratchets round the wheels and DONE! Don’t pay for the installation, this is super easy to install. Even when you’re not using it, just fold it flat and go. Your bike will be safe up there as the mounts and the clamp both lock.Very happy with the product, worth the money.
Bought 4 of these - for two adult and two child MTBs. First time I installed / set up, was a bit complicated and took a fair bit of adjustment - I had two bikes facing forwards & two backwards so the handlebars weren't clashing. I had to slide the roof bars/wheel trays around a bit/move bikes forward/back so the straps that hold the wheels in place could pass through their clips (instead of being prevented from going through as the bar was in the way). But after that, went okay. After 2 x 4hr+ motorway journeys, bikes stayed secure. Also fairly easy to remove. Racks seem well made, not too heavy, look nice & fold down easily once the bikes are off. If I had only bought one or two, would have been much easier to fit. No regrets on the actual product, and happy to ... MoreBought 4 of these - for two adult and two child MTBs. Delivery was relatively quick. Box didn’t come in good condition, which is likely due to the handling by the courier. But it could have been bubble wrapped up or in another delivery box instead of the product box itself. Also, the rubber turning knob has some marks which looked like it’s used, but it could be inherent from manufacturing. Overall happy with the purchase as the price is probably cheapest in Australia.
I'd been wanting one of these racks for a while, so I finally took the plunge a few weeks ago and bought the feet, rails and this bike rack. It takes a little while to fit it all to the car - but, then again, you'd want it to be safe and secure. Fitting is actually quite straightforward, once you've worked out the IKEA-style instruction manual! The rack itself is incredibly secure. Everything locks to everything else and my bike was rock solid once on the roof. I've only tried one of my bikes so far, but the rack seems very adjustable in every dimension, so it should be fine with other bikes. I will buy another, so I can carry my daughter's bike as well!
I'd initially bought a cheaper bicycle carrier in order to save money, but it didn't fit on my roof bars, so I had to spend (quite a bit) more to get this version and I'm so glad I did. The carrier installs to the Thule aero bars with t-track by default, but you can buy adapters to fit other types of roof bars, which would be worth it in my view.I didn't need to add I already had the Thule wing bars. The rack fitted very easily and immediately felt secure. There are two identical keys included to lock the carrier to the roof bars and to lock your bike to the carrier when it's loaded up.The support bar that hold the bike in place is very sturdy and also simple to clamp to the bike frame with a ratchet wheel. Then you lock the ratchet wheel to keep your bike safe. To release, you unlock and press a release button and the clamp opens - very simple. The wheels are strapped down with reasonably broad straps (zip tie style).I had no issues driving at motorway speeds and knew the carrier would be fine once the bike was loaded.Great purchase and I highly recommend. This model the Thule 598 was marginally cheaper than its predecessor - the 591 - in the store I bought it from, but features significant enough improvements over the 591 to make it worth paying a bit extra if need be.
Bought this about a month ago to fit an XL frame 29er bike - it fits perfectly - there are very few bike racks that fit this size bike properly without removing the front wheel. (Previous rack was a Thule FreeRide - did not even come close to fitting the bike!)I have 2.3" tyres fitted that sit great in the holders - a very handy rubber sleeve prevents the strap scratching on the rims.I have used it about 10 times so far with no worries of the bike wobbling or moving in the mounts whilst driving. It takes about 2 minutes to put the bike on the car now, even less to take it off.The rubber grip is soft enough to provide good cushioning on the bike tube and grips it really well. No worries over-tightening as the rotary torque mechanism clicks really loudly and prevents any damage to the bike frame. One thing to be aware of - The security key-lock mechanisms are not recognised as "secure" by the bike insurance company, and they insist that the bike is secured to the roof rails on the car with a secondary "Gold Rated" bicycle lock through the bike frame and wheels. Not so much of an issue with the bike rack itself, just don't trust the supplied key-locks as anything more than a deterrent! All in all - Really happy with the rack, seems very solidly built and will hopefully last many years to come.
