So I used this bag on 8 flights over the last month from the US to EU, and internal EU flights. The size of the bag is perfect for EU airlines. The problem is I also use a "Crew VersaPack Carry-On Deluxe Tote Bag". When I place the tote on top of the very narrow top of this suitcase it fell over over about two dozen times. I always had to keep my hand on the handle, or carry the tote over my shoulder. So I've decided to use the 100 day return policy and return this suitcase. Perhaps TravelPro's 2-wheel bag would not fall over as much. But I ended up hitting two passengers with the bag handle during the "bus" ride getting to the aircraft on IcelandAir. (I do have a 19" Samsonite spinner, and that does not tip over. But I was going for the absolute lightest bag ... I have owned several Travelpro products in the past. I like the quality and the fact that they have held up during transatlantic flights. The wheels roll easily, and I like the telescoping handle.I wish they would make them with metal zippers. The plastic zippers are too easy for someone to open with the tip of a ballpoint pen, steal your stuff, and then close the zipper again. Also, I would like them to improve the design of the straps that go over the clothes in the suitcase to secure them. It is so annoying to get everything in the suitcase, only to find that the straps are buried underneath the clothes, and you have to go digging for them!! If the straps were on the sides of the suitcase, so you could lay them outside of the suitcase, while packing, that would ... MoreI have owned several Travelpro products in the past. It would be even better to have straps that were attached to flat zippered pouches, so that when the straps are secured, the pouches would keep all of the clothes well-secured.

Purchased for use on international airlines, specifically Europe, where the bag sizing limitations for a spinner are smaller than the 21” inch spinner I already owned. I tried 2 bags, this one, and the Compact 21” inch spinner. I chose this one. They vary only by shape and 1L volume. Either would have been fine, but the international one won out due to the extra liter of volume, as well as being slightly wider across the top so that my personal item bag (also Travelpro) would sit better on the top when wheeling through airports. I love that they are so lightweight. I’ve traded in all my old luggage for the Maxlite bags, as they work better when trying to run through airports and lifting up onto trains, etc. I love Travelpro brand. They have consistently held up over the years and work well for packing. I’m a fan of the “empty box” type of luggage without a lot of interior pockets that simply take up room inside. Travelpro started doing that first; hence, my longtime relationship with the brand. Packing cubes work great in these bags. The only feature I will not use on this bag are the integrated security locks on the zippers. I’m scared to death that the combination would get changed, (or have problems setting the combo) and I would have no access to my bag. So I will forgo using those and simply use my regular add-on travel locks I already own. IMO these could be left off and a deeper outside pocket added instead. But that’s a small issue.

I really miss the small top pocket on the outside that I have on my smaller and larger models. I use it for smaller items that I will need upon arrival: Extra house keys, car keys, toll transponder, etc.I love the multiple stops on the retractable handle. The lowest one is just perfect for my 5’1” height. It’s really the first time I’ve felt I had absolute control of my spinner!I’m hoping that the strange smell goes away with time. So far it has not. Febreeze helped temporarily but even now when it has been closed overnight the clothing takes on the odor of the suitcase. My husband’s new case does not smell. This is the 5th TravelPro suitcase that I’ve bought over the years and the quality just keeps getting better. I’m so impressed by the longevity of these ... This is my 3rd TravelPro carryon. I still have the other two. They have held up well over many years of travel around the world. I only travel with carry on & EU standards are much less, so I needed a smaller lighter bag. This one does the trick. The bag itself is a couple of pounds lighter than my last bag. I will be able to travel with this domestically and overseas, and have the ability to turn the bag on its side, and it will still fit in overhead bins. This is a requirement in Europe and they get pretty unhappy When you bring a bag on board that does not fit sideways. It also holds quite a bit. Love the expandable pockets. I own two other Travelpro suitcases. I make two to three international trips a year plus domestic trips and long weekend trips by car. I’ve been taking my carry on everywhere for over 10 years and it still looks great. I love that it has several compartments and I can pack suits and dresses to prevent wrinkles in the extendable side. The only problem is that it’s now a bit heavy for me when I’m almost 80 years old and have to put it in the plane in overhead bins (not always get help). I just got for another international trip the Maglite 5 International Carry-On Spinner which is very lightweight. I have it packed to go and I was able to fit quite a bit. Mostly clothes so it won’t weigh very much.
My spouse needed a new medium-sized suitcase as years of baggage handler misuse finally took its toll. There was no question as to what the replacement would be. I already owned a Travelpro Maxlite 5 25" suitcase for some time and my spouse said, "That's the one I want!" She admired my suitcase's looks, light weight, and durability, and knew that purchasing one for her use was the wisest decision we could make. I agreed! Purchasing directly from the Travelpro website was a breeze and delivery took only a couple of days. Upon unpacking the shipping box, we found the suitcase to be in perfect shape. My spouse's detailed inspection complemented our first look - she was overly pleased that, now, she owned the perfect medium-sized, light weight suitcase. Within the month, we put it to the test, packing it and using it on a one-week getaway. It's performance and durability confirmed our earlier observations. Though it received a few marks from "unkind" handling, the marks were easily removed with minimal effort. The suitcase made it through the multistop trip perfectly and continues to look as it did fresh out of the box. We are happy Travelpro customers and travelers.
I was replacing the prior matching models which lasted me approximately 10 years and got good use. Both suitcases look good though I feel their construction is not quite as durable as the prior models, specifically, the zippers, wheels, and handle. Only time will tell if these last 10 years as well or fall apart sooner. I am particularly disappointed about the wheels. I like the fact that there are four of them now, instead of two, but they are so small and flimsy that they get caught on sidewalk cracks, and when they’re not getting caught on sidewalk cracks, they are bouncing and rattling noisily as they traverse over the sidewalk cracks. I find myself looking at other wheels on similar suitcases at the airport and think that the wheels that are fatter, like on ... I find myself looking at other wheels on similar suitcases at the airport and think that the wheels that are fatter, like on some Samsonite bags, must work better overall and not bounce, bang and rattle as much. But I do enjoy the look of TravelPro suitcases over Samsonites…. One final critique on the smaller suitcase, the one that can be used as a carry one on the airplane, the front pocket isn’t as a big as the prior version and I feel like the suitcase overall is slightly smaller. In addition, when you expand the bag, the zipper that expands the suitcase does not unzip all the way around. Instead, it only unzips partially so the bag ends up expanding at an angle, which doesn’t make very much sense to me and limits the amount of additional storage.
I was looking for a carryon that had overall dimensions of 22 x 14 x 9, so I could be confident about it fitting in the overhead compartments on most planes - domestic and international. We had purchased some others where the stated dimensions matched what we wanted, but when we received the item and measured ourselves it was actually larger than stated. This one is interesting because it is actually smaller than it needs to be.First, the wedge shape (marketed as a stability feature) just seems to be a waste of space, making this smaller than it needs to be. I would rather have a fully rectangular carryon and deal with it tipping over occasionally if I haven’t packed heavy stuff at the bottom for some reason.Second, even at the bottom, the biggest part of the ... This one is interesting because it is actually smaller than it needs to be.First, the wedge shape (marketed as a stability feature) just seems to be a waste of space, making this smaller than it needs to be. I would rather have a fully rectangular carryon and deal with it tipping over occasionally if I haven’t packed heavy stuff at the bottom for some reason.Second, even at the bottom, the biggest part of the wedge, the suitcase is less than 9” deep. It only gets to 9” deep — and only at the bottom of it — if you expand it. The top never gets close to 9” deep. It’s maybe 6” deep. The expansion is minimal because of the wedge shape. Just the bottom part expands. I am used to (and prefer) suitcases where the UNexpanded state is the max allowable dimensions, but then you can have an extra inch or two if you choose to expand it. …Perhaps because you stuffed your coat in there and will take it out before boarding the plane. …Or because you’re using the suitcase for a road trip and don’t have to adhere as strictly to dimensions… Or because you’re feeling like you’ll be ok with the slightly deeper size because based on the plane you know it will still fit fine. So, long story short (too late), the wedge shape, combined with the design decision to make it less deep than is allowable in the unexpanded state were deal breakers and I returned this.I don’t know why it’s so hard for luggage manufacturers to make a suitcase with legitimately compliant overall dimensions and then to maximize the space within that constraint. It seems very straightforward to me. We ended up with a samsonite theorym and are very happy with the dimensions and use of space.
I love Travelpro! The suitcase is light. The wheels are smooth. The zippers and pull handle work great. Travelpro has been my go-to brand for many years of business international travel. I just replaced my long-time rollaboard with an updated version. I'd meant to get the 19-inch European carry-on and accidentally got the 21 inch, but it sailed through Paris on Air France as a carry-on without any question. I had a 2-wheel bag for years, but I absolutely loved the 4 spinner wheels. I attached a computer bag on top, and it was so easy to push the pair alongside me instead of dragging the weight behind me. What a difference! It carried enough for 2 weeks' vacation in Turkey. It's a super carry-on bag.
