While I understand that it helps keep the center of gravity low so that the suitcase doesn't become top-heavy when expanded, I would prefer the full expansion. However, with the lower half expansion only, I still would have moved the TSA zipper lock to the top of the suitcase instead of where it currently is...right where the expansion zone begins. It seems that this could place the zippers under undue stress when the suitcase is expanded.

Great suitcase
10 August 2024

We travel across the country a lot and I was tired of our suitcases falling apart. I decided to invest in a more expensive, robust suitcase to see if it made a difference. This is a nice, well made suitcase and it is definitely a few grades above what we were carrying before. The suit/dress layout in the top is great for storing dresses with minimal wrinkles. It does take away from the large zipper pocket I was used to using in previous suitcases though. It is easy to roll even in airports with carpeting and steers nicely. I bought the Espresso color for me and it's very expensive looking. I bought the Black for my husband which is very nice too. Both suitcases still look good after 2 trips from the east coast to the west coast and back.Handle underneath is handy ... MoreWe travel across the country a lot and I was tired of our suitcases falling apart. We did have an issue with the side handle coming off of one of the suitcases but it was a loose screw and we were able to repair it easily.I recommend this suitcase and it's worth the extra money.

It’s not as big as it sounds.

Well, it’s beautiful, exudes solid craftsmanship, the spinner wheels are amazing, but what a huge disappointment. The folding zippered compartment might be great for a hanging garment as advertised but it can’t have much bulk to it and it wasn’t clear to me just how one would use it for stowing anything else. The compression straps with the zippered pouches incorporated seem like a clever idea executed poorly. Attaching in the middle of the main compartment instead of the top or the bottom, they either divide the main compartment into two unusably shallow compartments or abandon the zippered pouches for stowing anything that wouldn’t fit in a shirt pocket. The biggest issue, however was size. I was willing to spend more than I was able to afford fifteen years ago in order to get as big suitcase that didn’t weigh as much as the one I bought back then. This suitcase was listed as having nearly identical exterior dimensions, larger interior volume, and weighing 5 1/2 pounds less than my old one. It was immediately apparent your suitcase wasn’t nearly as big, inside or out, and wasn’t at all suitable for the extended business trips I take. Thank goodness Travelpro has a generous return policy because I sent it back right away.

Not as good as it once was

My first Platinum Elite set with Travelpro went a million miles with me. I trusted it so much that I bought the same set years later but within about 4 months, it looked pretty rough, and the area around the wheels looked like a any-moment disaster. I ventured to Away, which is still great, but nothing like my Platinum Elite set for giving me the room for 2 week+ trips. So I came by for one more spin with a new Platinum Elite. I flew to Europe last week and three of the zipper pulls fell off for my first flight. Very disappointing. There is a big space open space in the pull where the pull meets the zipper base so I suspect these will all be gone in no time. It seems like such an easy fix for Travelpro. Perfect for a week long trip to Mexico
14 December 2023

Just gave my new luggage the master test with a week long trip to the Yucatan. It fit in every airline overhead bin easily. Sometimes the wheels were a tad difficult to get oriented so the bag would go in smoothly, but it wasn't that bad.The organization features absolutely rock. I did use the wet compartment for my swim suit, smaller net pockets for jewelry. The size easily accommodated all my clothing for the week plus a large toiletries bag and TSA liquids bag.Love the 'coastal blue' color. It isn't too bright but easily stands out in the largely black crowd of luggage. The leather details and the recycled materials used made for a handsome look and it's always nice to see the recycled materials used.

This Bag is a Winner!

Great bag. Chose the burgundy color because it has silver (not gold) hardware and I love the pink interior color. I’ve noticed there are lots of hard sided bags being sold lately but I prefer the soft sided bags like this one for a number of reasons. First and foremost I need exterior pockets. This bag is great for that purpose. It has three different sized front pockets and the side pocket built for your battery pack is great to have. I don’t use the battery pack for several reasons. They’re heavy. You have to take them out if you check your bag and seriously, there are tons of ways to charge your device now, even in the airport. This bag expands (which is GR8!). Inside you get a quart size plastic travel bag for liquids that zips into the case and can be removed. ... MoreGreat bag. Inside you get a quart size plastic travel bag for liquids that zips into the case and can be removed. You also have an interior zipper pocket, that you can’t see in the pictures, and a foldable garment bag. The side flaps that hold your stuff in place is a real nice feature and it keeps my stuff from shifting around and falling out when I open the bag. The wheels roll like butter and the handle operates very smoothly. I don’t know how long this bag will last but I’m hard on my bags and use them for work trips about 45 times a year. Two wishes for this bag: wish it were an inch bigger in every direction and had an exterior water bottle pocket. Suggestion for TravelPro: You need to improve your video and pictures for this bag-what is online doesn’t do it justice. It took me three weeks of looking at this bag to buy it. But if I had seen a video of all the little missed things I’d have bought it much sooner and would not have looked at four other brands in the interim. Also I would recommend adding the interior features to some of the bigger checked bags as well.

Two great pieces of luggage

We ordered 2 of this model. 1 in espresso, 1 in sand, which is quite light in color. The light one showed markings from the airport baggage handlers and stowage, so get a dark color. We did have a problem with the order. As I indicated, we ordered 2 of this model. We got 1 and the second one was a hardside model, not what we wanted or ordered. We were on a tight schedule, leaving too soon for Travelpro to replace it. We ended up getting the second one from Amazon, who sent it overnight. I would be angry, except Travelpro had us return the piece they sent in error and refunded the cost within 5 days. Packing is easy and we like the dividers and pockets provided. The price is fair and competitive within the better level luggage market. The wheels work well, even on European uneven sidewalks. Really heavily cobbled sidewalks would still be a challenge, but otherwise they performed really well.

I ordered a TravelPro Platinum Elite 29” Check-In Expandable Spinner and accessories (delineated above) on 20 July 2023. All of the items were delivered by 25 July 2023, in one big box and 5 smaller soft-envelope packages. Although the main box has a couple of labels stating, “Platinum Elite,” inside the box was otherwise. When I went to open the box, I noticed that the strips of tape at both ends of the top of the box were already cut, which caught my attention. As I cut the tape along the center of the top of the box, it appeared to be overlaying a layer of [original] tape. When I pulled back the flaps of the box, there were many problems, as follows:1. The protective plastic bag containing the luggage was down to the sides instead of fully encasing the luggage and sealed. I also noticed dirt smudges on the exterior, indicating the luggage may have been previously used.2. The zipper to the main luggage compartment was unzipped, leaving the cover to flap inside the plastic bag and box.3. The handle was a clear giveaway that the luggage is not a Platinum Elite, despite the “Platinum Elite” tags dangling from the handle. Platinum Elite carry-on luggage handles have double screws and a metal swivel buckle on each side of the sturdy leather handle. The luggage received in this box has only single screws on each side of a sliding handle and the handle itself seems chintzy.Upset, I did not even bother pulling the luggage out of the box nor have I opened the accessory packages received. The possibility of switched and perhaps used luggage being received from the manufacturer did not cross my mind as a possibility. Nonetheless, despite this situation, I was willing to return the incorrect luggage for the Platinum Elite 29” Check-In Expandable Spinner that I ordered. However, frustration and fury set in when I tried report a problem with the PayPal app and when I tried to find a way to contact TravelPro immediately over this matter. Attempting to report a problem with the PayPal app proved frustrating, as the report would reset whenever I left the app to copy/paste explanatory information from my NotePad or when it took too long to manually enter the information. As for TravelPro customer service, it was the straw that broke the camel’s back. There is no phone number to call, no chat capability, and there is a note stating that a response will take 3-4 weeks with the online form. Additionally, I found no way to exchange items on the TravelPro web site, as I would have preferred, but only the ability to return items. As a result, I decided to return everything for a full refund and to have nothing more to do with TravelPro as a company. My TravelPro Platinum 30” luggage that served me for the past 30 years, which I was looking to replace because of wear, will have to suffice.
