What a fantastic appliance. This is what you use if you are tired of using the old consumer grade Wireless Routers. Is it as cheap? No, but, oh boy, it does a whole lot more than those do, and to be honest you truly get what you pay for. If you want a modular network that allows you integrate individual wireless access points, size to what you need, and IP cameras, plus more then look no further. This is prosumer equipment. Not as expensive as go full enterprise and doesn't have all the features of those, but for a prosumer it provides more than enough of what you need. Enjoy! Trust me.

Setup is a breeze! Add some POE APs here, some Ubiquity switches there, route some cables into the patch panel and hook it all up. Bam. Your done. Excellent companion for any homelab, still figuring out the network monitoring and firewall, but pleased with the smooth interface, mobile app, and gui. I'm sure we'll be together for many years to come. Will definately upgrade to include Cameras and other Unify equipment.

These routers/firewalls are great for larger home networks as well as small to medium sized businesses. The Unifi software does a great job of configuring and organizing network resources, making it easy to see how the network is configured and where devices are located. This is some of the simplest and most powerful management software out there.

I purchased the UDM SE as I had great experiences with their Access Points and Switches and I've been wanting to jump into the UniFi ecosystem for Protect and routing. So I made the jump, assuming I'd also have just as great of an experience. Unfortunately, that assumption was incorrect. The first major issue I ran into was setting up IPv6. My previous router handled this just fine, but on the UDM SE, enabling DHCPv6 with the correct prefix delegation, then saving those settings would cause the UniFi Network application to completely freeze, with no errors. The only way to get back in was to completely reboot the system, causing network downtime. The only way to get back in was to completely reboot the system, causing network downtime. Eventually, I figured out that the only way to get this feature to work and not experience this bug was to enable and save these settings on the UniFi Network mobile app, and then IPv6 worked properly on my network. Secondly, on the first day of ownership, Traffic Statistics stopped working, with Traffic Identification in the dashboard saying "No identified traffic on the network." I completely cleared the Traffic Identification history, and Traffic Identification and the relevant charts started functioning normally, but only for around 6 days. After the 6th day, the issue would reappear, and Traffic Identification stats would no longer appear anywhere. I reset it again, and it continued working once again until another 6 days elapsed, when it stopped working yet again. Finally, also related to the Traffic Stats was that the stats grew wildly inaccurate over time. The usage for many devices would sometimes grow wildly overnight, with even the data usage not matching in different areas of the user interface. The worst I've seen is over the course of 4 hours overnight, it said that my MacBook Pro downloaded around 520 GB of data, which upon investigation, was simply impossible, and the storage usage on the device was completely unchanged. Furthermore, in the interface, one area didn't display the supposed 520 GB used at all, and the 24 hour usage numbers didn't match. Unfortunately, these glaring flaws in this product, which should be a step up from an ISP router, make it difficult for me to recommend this to a friend or family member. Luckily, I'm within Micro Center's return policy for this, so I shall be heading to the store soon once I transition the entire network off UniFi Network and onto something else while also minimizing downtime.
Upgraded to this to replace my combination of unifi cloud key gen1, USG and 8 port switch with PoE. Was very easy to migrate to from the cloudkey. The integration of all the features is excellent, and given this integration it is now super fast to make changes to firewall and other router settings, where before with the USG it would take a minute or so. Also very impressed by how quickly it recovered from connection outages caused by my ISP, seems to be much faster compared to my old USG (though I couldn't say why). Highly recommended.
Bought to replace a UniFi USG and cloud key. Wanted the faster 2.5g wan interface. Set up was uneventful and I took the opportunity to do make some changes to my network design. Runs great once I figured out how to set up with AT&T fiber service. Does run warmer than expected in the stack I built so I have added an additional rack fan. Performance overall is as expected.
Few years ago I purchased the original Dream Machine Pro, and it used enormous amounts of its CPU whenever intrusion detection and packet inspection was enabled. Otherwise, I quite liked having a controller, router and protection device (with an inserted WD Purple drive) in one chassis. When I replaced it (about a year ago) I went back to OPNSense and PFSense running on a Protectli Celeron 4 port. This was a nice solution, and ran Siracata (same applet Ubiquiti uses for their firewall) well. Well, the game is now changed, and whatever Ubiquiti has done to upgrade the Dream machine pro SE works for me. Have enabled most of the firewall features on it, and no hiccups at all. I have a 1 GbE up and down fiber link, and the only gotcha was ensuring your desired WAN port ... MoreFew years ago I purchased the original Dream Machine Pro, and it used enormous amounts of its CPU whenever intrusion detection and packet inspection was enabled. Getting 940 Mbps up and down, happy with that, 4 ms latency. Will update this after a few weeks, if anything changes! Very happy so far! Ubiquiti has also upgraded their network dashboard significantly, very well done!
It's not always about the hardware. For all the emphasis network gear manufacturers place on hardware, theoretical speeds, and being the first to implement draft Wi-Fi standards, they are surprisingly neglectful of the software that runs within. Ubiquiti's UDM bucks the trend, showing how solid hardware with well-designed software create a seamless experience from the set-up to the tools for ongoing management of the network. One might say that it's very Apple-esque. But it goes further, offering knobs and dials-which 99% of people won't ever touch-for even the most meticulous network administrator. And yet, all of its features are artfully unified in a way that's reminiscent of my favorite Theodore Roosevelt quote: "speak softly and carry a big stick." You'll know ... MoreIt's not always about the hardware. Not trying to make a wall of text, but I bought this and REALLY wanted it to be perfect. I will simply list here the things that I found while attempting to set the device up in the order that I found them up to the point where I ultimately decided to cut my losses and return it. 1. Out of the box, it REQUIRED that you create an account with Ubiquiti to set the box up, thus tying it to your account. You are then 'allowed' to update the firmware so that you can then factory reset the box and set it up in 'local only' mode by using the Bluetooth connection on a smartphone. In case you think you are too smart for this to be a real issue, NO, you absolutely cannot update the firmware first and avoid all of that, nice try, now cough up your email and phone number for big ... MoreNot trying to make a wall of text, but I bought this and REALLY wanted it to be perfect. In case you think you are too smart for this to be a real issue, NO, you absolutely cannot update the firmware first and avoid all of that, nice try, now cough up your email and phone number for big daddy Ubiquiti or enjoy your paperweight. 2. All of the Ethernet ports are connected via a 1Gb/s backplane, you will not be getting full speed on all of the Ethernet ports all at once. If you plan to use this for phones or maybe cameras then you probably wont care, I would still argue that this thing cost $500 dollars, full speed POE Ethernet switches are nowhere near that expensive. 3 The VPN on this thing is L2TP only, and has barely any other configurable options. Your first question might be "Who cares?", literally anyone with an android phone, that's who. L2TP is ancient and hasn't been supported on android since Android 12. IKEv2 is the newer and more secure standard, there are people all over the internet asking and looking for information as to when this will be implemented, questions which go back years, and the response is always complete silence from Ubiquiti and the "maybe they'll implement it soon" damage control comments from fanboys. 4. This last one will surprise no one, as it did not surprise me. The support is literally non-existent. Looked for a phone number, maybe I could just call, ask if they have a feature roadmap or something? Nope, should have known that. Email helpdesk or something? Nope. Their site says you can submit a request, oh look, the site is broken, you can't submit a request. The request system does not work. At that point, I had seen enough, it went back in the box and back to the store. This thing costs $500 people, that is not a lot when compared to enterprise gear but it IS a lot for a consumer oriented device with a very limited feature set and no support which is what this is, most enterprise shops wont even touch Ubiquiti stuff for exactly that reason. If you are spending this much on a firewall, or whatever it is this thing is pretending to be, then you can afford to get something that is actually worth having. Do yourself a favor and look at alternatives, I promise you they are out there.
Dream machine SE and 3family Somerville home w basement a perfect marriage! At this time the house has a total of 29 devices that use Wi-Fi with the dream machine and multiple Unifi hot spots the mystery of dead spots and question of quality connections disappear -with the apps with the hardware give you easy to read stats and diagrams of the whole network including quality reports on the incoming internet. Bottom line > nothing is a mystery< Install 2-4 hot spots ,dream machine and have a iPad or laptop available and start the build. It’s well worth it
