few chargers will recharge 'ordinary' batteries, keeping you to Li-ion or Ni-Mh. The battery makers have bought out most of the suppliers: wonder why! But used properly this one charges standard cells about five times. If they are fully discharged when inserted it is not as effective, so use it on part discharged cells and save a lot of cash. The principle was worked out in the 1950's and uses DC with lots of AC ripple, and is not high tech.
