Absolutely awesome. I bought this Mario Chess Set for my grandson for Christmas. The characters are well made and substantial in size. I and him and my son are very happy with the set. They’ve already played chess several times. I still can’t get over how big and well made the characters are.

Love love love this Mario chess set!! The characters are all so cute and seem to be made of sturdy plastic; doesn’t seem like they’ll be worn down anytime soon. I wish the board were a bit thicker, but it is about the same as any average board game board. I do wish that the plastic inserts were labeled to help with putting the characters pieces back after playing, but other than that, no complaints.

Based on the presentation of the pieces it seemed like it was made of pewter or another metal alloy. But they're a hard plastic. Not bad, but it wasn't what I expect. Other than that, it's a cool piece of memorabilia for any Zelda fan and my son and I love it.

Children loved the Toy Story movies and the Chess pieces are the characters from the movie. I am trying to teach my young grandchildren how to play the game. I think that the characters will help with remembering the moves that each piece can make. The Chess pieces are very cute and colorful and captures the attention of the young player.
My kids absolutely love it! The pieces are more substantial than I thought they would be based on the reviews. The game came new in the package with plastic wrap intact. The price is more than I wanted to pay, but it was a specific request and this was the best price I found anywhere. It is getting daily use so at least it isn't money gone to waste!
To start with, we love this product and would definitely recommend. However, for a child learning to play chess, it is a little tricky. It's harder for them to align these game pieces with the actual chess pieces, since they are so different. We bought this for our 4yo birthday (his school was teaching him to play), and realized it just doesn't quite align with the actual game pieces, so he had nothing to reference at least visually and was confused. So we bought another version of the normal pieces (cheapest set we could find) and are teaching him from that. I would recommend this to a slightly older child who may already be familiar with chess. But otherwise, we love it -and my husband really enjoys it!
My 7 year old is a chess and Nintendo die hard, and he absolutely loves this set. The pieces are solid and well made, the tin is okay for carrying everything around in, but I do wish there were moulds/holes to securely fasten them in, rather than have them rattling around in the tin and potentially damaging the paint on the pieces. If they are meant to go back in to the plastic packaging moulds then these are really fiddly, not labelled, and don't seem very well suited for re-use. The last thing is I wish the board was maybe slightly bigger, as pieces like Bowser (maybe intentionally?) take up more than their own space, making him awkward to move around other pieces on the board. All in all though, we really like the set, and the price isn't too bad either.
This is even better than I thought it would be. I didn't realize - because I only saw the thumbnail image -- Instead of black/white or red/green, the pieces are divided into good/evil. King Mario vs. King Bowser. Coins vs. Koopas. The bases are red or green, because otherwise it would be impossible. Also, the name of the piece is written on the base. So you don't have to remember if Peach is the bishop or the rook. (She's the bishop.)
My 17-year old loves it! It's sturdy; we don't have to worry about it breaking any time soon. He has actually put aside his video games and challenged family and friends to play chess. We're had quite a bit of good quality time together lately! Also, my son is a Zelda fanatic, and he had recently gotten into playing chess and was wanting a board. This Zelda chess set was an amazing fit for him. Its quality ensures it will be a treasure for many years to come.
super mario chess is a great addition to our collection. my daughter is 6 and wated to get into chess but is also a huge super mario fan so i thought this would be a fun gift for her. its a great spin on the classic game and the pieces are very well made she has used them for more than just the game at this point and theyve held up to her antics. my only complaint is i find it hard to remember which character is acting in which roll for set up and which side is black and which side is white.
