Victorinox Cooks Carving Knife Extra Wide Blade - 20cm

I am very happy with the price and quality of this knife. It was recommended by Christopher Kimball on Cook's Country or America's Test Kitchen, and now I am recommending it! This knife is easy to use and lightweight. I have medium sized hands and the 7 1/2" length turns out to be the perfect length for me. I have a 9" knife that feels very awkward to use for everyday chopping so I reserve it for watermelons, butternut squashes and the like. The handle is one molded, sealed piece and I like that for keeping it clean from bacteria. This knife is used several times per day, every day at our house. The knife fits perfectly into the Victorinox 47302 6" to 8" Knife Blade Cover, and I feel the cover is a safety must for knives that are kept loose in a drawer. It can be sharpened easily with Chef Master 90015GDCM01 Professional Carbide Hand Held Knife Sharpener, which I also recommend.

Effective, not fancy

Excellent work horse knife. 8" blade length is extremely versatile and 2" blade depth keeps your knuckles from hitting your cutting board while chopping and slicing. Holds an edge well and the fibrox handle provides excellent grip and reduces slipping, even when your hands are wet. Highly recommended.

Great knife

Amazing value for the cost. As a home cook, this is my go to knife for 90% of what I do. In my tiny kitchen it's much more handy than my 8 inch chef's knife for most things, and I regret not getting it earlier. My only complaint is that the edge at the first inch or so from the tip was dull/burred on arrival - nothing a few minutes with a whetstone couldn't fix though.

Great knife for the price

Did a lot of looking around, researching etc. before purchasing this knife. And I am not disappointed! The knife is extremely sharp (and I have had a sliced finger to prove it) and feels nice in the hand. The blade itself is quite wide which might take some getting used to if you're like me and are accustomed to skinnier chef knives. Overall I'm really happy with this purchase and have already purchased a second knife for a friend (who is also very happy with it!). The quality of the knife for the price is hard to beat!

Great knife, great value

My partner and I often cook together, so we decided to buy 2 of these rather than 1 knife with a "nicer" handle. I'm so glad we did. Really comfortable to use regardless of how you hold it (I pinch the blade, she holds the handle), nice and sharp after a few weeks of daily use and a few touch-ups with a honing steel.If you're looking for a first "real" knife, a gift for someone setting up a kitchen, or even just a second chef's knife for the family, this one is definitely worth checking out.

Jury still out on quality

I bought this knife on the basis of numerous online recommendations. I wanted something a bit smaller than the 20 cm knives I have on the rack. When it arrived, I asked the post office contractor to wait while I opened the parcel. It was so light, I thought the seller had neglected to include the knife! Well the knife was there, and what a change it was from the satisfyingly hefty feel of my Mondial and Wusthof knives. However it was sharp and has done a fine job so far on vegetables and boneless meat. The test will come when it has to deal with something a bit tougher. I still treat it a bit gingerly as if it was a ceramic knife, but maybe my confidence in it will grow. The perfect everyday kitchen knife

Ok- so youre into kitchen knives or youre not. If you are the former, then this knife will be an excellent beater and you can keep your fancy blades safe. If you belong to the latter category- which is 99.5% of the population- this is the blade to get. Affordable and well made with a handy size for most kitchen tasks. The steel is on the softer side, but highly stainless. It comes razor sharp but you should learn to touch it up to get the best out of it. Or have a knife need sharpen it for you. Dont use the pull- through sharpeners. These are . Made by the Swiss Army knife people- so you know its good. And keep it out of the dishwasher! Excellent knife for anyone who wants to get the job done without breaking the bank. Stay safe

Very practical knife

Love the length and wide blade of this knife. Suitable for cutting meat and vegetables. Love Victorinox knives. Easy to sharpen over time if needed. I have a similar knife at 25cm which I have been using for many years, but find the 20cm a better length.

very light and sharp

I am very happy with this knife. It arrived well protected, wrapped in a lot of paper inside a box, with a guard at the tip of the blade. The blade is super sharp, as expected, and the knife is incredibly light. I was considering buying a 8 or 10 inch, but I am very happy I went for 6, it feels very confortable even when chopping.
