This knife has a great combination of useful tools but, deploying the tools can be frustrating for someone with arthritis. The grooves for your fingernail are tiny and sometimes obstructed by the adjacent layer of tools. The can opener is the current Victorinox shape rather than the old Wenger style pictured. I've never used the Wenger style but it looked like it would do better than the Victorinox style which can be difficult to snag the can rim. I haven't had a reason to use the wrench yet. You can forget about using it on any nut that is not near an edge. The wrench is mounted near the center of the tool stack so using it flush to a surface is out of the question. You would have to attempt to grab a nut at a fairly steep angle The slip-joint pliers are an awesome ... MoreThis knife has a great combination of useful tools but, deploying the tools can be frustrating for someone with arthritis. The pliers were one of the main selling points that accounted for me buying this model. The 85mm length takes some getting used to if you're used to the longer 91mm length. This is compact but I prefer the slightly longer length,

As always, this victorinox tool came sharp and well-built. The locking blade and auto-locking screwdrivers add a lot of safety. The shape of the scales does a lot to improve grip. The scissors are phenomenal for a multi-tool; the serrations help. This particular model has, I think, the best selection of tools for almost any job without being full of unnecessary parts. It is only slightly thicker and heavier than a standard Swiss Army knife, while being much more powerful. The spring mechanism in the pliers is slightly misaligned and loose from the factory and pops out of place under sideways force, but it's hardly a problem.

This knife will be replacing my Victorinox Camper knife which I had for over 30 years. Looks like it still has same great quality. A little bit bulkier then my last knife but it is to be expected since it has more functions. Also has a locking blade

I've carried a Swiss pocket knife every day for over 45 years. I've used several different styles over the year's. I worked 35 years as a facilities maintenance worker and used my knife o a daily basis, in fact i still do. I wish I had this model before i retired because it has a better selection of tools. I still have all my knives and a couple of vintage champions I've never used but have owned for over 40 years. This knife i carry on a belt chain so you don't even feel the weight in your pocket. Great muti purpose tool.
I purchased this knife about a year and half ago. It is weighs less than the Swiss Champ. Has most of the tools as the the Champ. Tools are based on Wenger design meaning the pliers and scissors are not like Victorinox ones. The reamer is a Victorinox design. The pocket tool is very easy to use. The philips head screwdriver is difficult to open unless you have very strong finger nails. You are not going to build a house using a SAK but it can handle most all everyday small jobs. I have used it to cut rope, tighten frying pan handles, open envelopes and boxes, cut newspaper coupons, replace power outlets, install porch lights, and more. It is a high quality dependable tool. The knife does not come with a mini screw driver as in my photo. It is an added accessory.
I am a photographer, and I need a SAK that can help my day job.and when I saw this knife on the internet, I felt that it was perfect for my needs. Its size is not too thick making it easy to carry anywhere. The knife is very sharp, and easy to sharpen. And the scissors are the tools I used most often, at least to cut paper and cut my nails.I also often use a phillips screwdriver to tighten something.Pliers, although small, but very very useful. I often use the pliers to tighten the vehicle battery bolts, open the staple of letter paper, and many others.I rarely use bottle opener and can opener, but flathead screwdriver and 2D phillips screwdriver are often used to tighten something.I rarely use universal wrench, but hey, who knows later I'll need it.Now ... MoreI am a photographer, and I need a SAK that can help my day job.and when I saw this knife on the internet, I felt that it was perfect for my needs. Its size is not too thick making it easy to carry anywhere. And one of the coolest moment is when my friend asks, "did you bring your scissors?" and I handed my victorinox to him proudly.Yahaa,~
I've always had a Swiss Army knife on me for most of my adult life, that's about 50 years. They do eventually wear down and need replacement after 5-8 years, that is, if you use it almost every day. I did the retirement/replacement thingy this time with the Evogrip S557 Multi-Blade Folding Knife. It is the best light pocket knife of my life so far. The Envirogrip took a little time to get used to compared to the usual smooth plastic casing. This particular knife sure does pack a lot of useful tools this time around, especially the locking knife blade, pliers & wrench. The wrench is a first for me. A super great buy!
The Victorinox Evolution S557 is a very nice EDC knife. I used to be a Victorinox dealer and I own and use Swiss Champs, Craftsmans, Rangers, Tinkers, Super Tinkers, Classics, Huntsmans, Recruits, Duo Pros, Soldiers (both old models and current), etc. I also own a number of Wengers. The S557 has combined the best Wenger innovations (ergonomic handles, scissors and pliers with a springless lever design, adjustable pliers, locking screwdrivers, universal wrench, nailfile with cleaner, main blade with a little more belly to it, and locking blade) with Victorinox innovations (the arc style can opener, reamer with sharpened edge and sewing eye, tooth pick and tweezers that are sturdier than the ones on Wengers) For cutting paper I have always preferred the Victorinox ... MoreThe Victorinox Evolution S557 is a very nice EDC knife. If you play guitar, the wire cutter on the Wenger pliers is perfect for cutting guitar strings....you just slide the string through the hole on the pliers and slide the pliers next to the tuning key and cut the string. When I first tried to open the phillips screwdriver and the universal wrench on my S557 they were both very hard to open, so I just put a drop of oil onthe pivot point of each and worked them back and forth for about a minute each and they open fine now. The S557 is comfortable in my hand when I am using the main blade. Also, it is nice to have a locking blade and the lock does not get in the way with my hand around the handle. The lock actually sits below the middle bend in my index finger when I am holding it and in no way is it possible for it to release while I am using it. When it is time to close it, it releases easily and pauses at 115 degrees when closing to prevent accidental closure on the user's fingers. Most people will probably want to carry this knife in a belt pouch, but I find it comfortable to carry vertically next to my wallet in my back pocket. I would recommend the Victorinox S557 as a very useful everyday tool.
the quality of this knife is excellent. it is amazingly compact, even for swiss army standards. all the tools are slimmer than those found on a standard victorinonox. what makes this knife unique is the tool selection. it holds most the wenger exclusive tools that you cant find on other victorinox-wenger models anymore. the locking blade is an awesome feature. if you are only going to buy one wenger style victorinox...this is the one for you. that being said, it wont replace my victorinox swisschamp for daily carry...not that you could go wrong this model for daily carry. just personal preference on my part.
