Bad Perfomance!

The size of this blending cup is excellent, however the performance is NOT. Due to the end flat shape of the blending cup, powder and seeds get stuck at the bottom of the cup (the flat end) and it's very hard to mix ingredients efficiently. The lack of movements of ingredients is also due the very narrow shape of the lower part of the cup.Wished and was hoping that Vitamix would make the same size blending cup with a different shape like magic bullet cups (with round and wider end). This blending cup is good to be used as to go cup since it has flat end and can be stand on its own. Also it fits in a cup holder of cars. I would not use it for blending often since it doesn't mix efficiently.

If you only see dashes, the motor base is not recognizing the magnets in the cup rim. Do your best to get the arrow on the blade base in between the brackets on the cup rim. You may have to turn the power switch on and off a few times before the base senses the magnets are in the correct position. Note, you're not blending anything yet. You're getting the motor base to recognize the cups (do this for each cup), which it will do fairly well after this initial, "Oh high Ascent motor base. We're part of your blending party now!" routine. One cup in my set is easier to get on the base than the other. The first month or so I had to wet the threads of the blade base to get the base arrow anywhere near the brackets on the cup. Now I don't have to do this and have found that too much wetness on the threads can cause the cup to start twisting off the base while blending. If you ever owned a Nutri Bullet and struggled to clean the gasket, then you know how difficult that is and how nasty that gasket can get. On this blade base, the gasket rolls right off. It's so easy to clean and no freaky mold experiments! Also, the smoothies from a Nutri Bullet aren't that smooth. With these cups and blade base, my smoothies rival the local Smoothie King, which I've only been to once since buying these.I do wish there were more smoothie recipes for these 20 ounce cups. Although the blender came with the 64 ounce pitcher, I blend one flavor at a time. My family doesn't want the flavor smoothie I want. It took some guessing to get the ice/frozen fruit ratio correct for a cold smoothie. There also needs to be more recipes for powder heavy smoothies. Some reviews complain about powder sticking to the top (bottom of the cup when off the machine). This does happen when there are no/few greens in the smoothie. The powders flow down and around ice and fruit like sand in a hourglass when there are no packed greens to stop them. So for non-green smoothies, I add all "dry" ingredients first: ice, frozen/fresh fruit, nuts/solid fats. Then I add about half the liquid, which is about 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup liquid. Then I add powders and top off with the remaining liquid.Blending in these cups can be loud. The loudness seems to vary with ingredients and/or fullness of the container. Pressure can build in these cups since they are fully sealed, unlike the pitchers. When in doubt, leave ingredients below the fill line instead of exactly to the line.

I use this way more than I thought I would
22 February 2023

This cup came in a bundle with my Venturist blender and since I usually make a full blender worth of smoothie, I didn't think it would be of much use to me. I quickly discovered that it's fantastic for flavored water. I add a couple frozen strawberries, fill it with water, and blend on high (to pulverize those pesky seeds), and have a wonderfully fresh cup of flavored water with very little mess. There is a small learning curve to with the self-detect feature, but it's easy once you get the hang of it. I've used it almost daily for a year and it's held up great.

My 7 year old Nutribullet had better results.
1 October 2021

I bought the Venturist which comes with one of these blending cups along with the 64 oz low profile container. My goal was to replace the 7 year old Nutribullet which I use for basic smoothies, and have the added option of a full power blender when needed. As a blender, it’s fine. But the blender cup for making drinks...oh man it's bad. Way worse than using a Nutribullet with a standard 24 oz cup.First off, the cup is only 16 oz. It’s listed as 20 oz, but maybe that’s if you fill it to the brim (which is not recommended because there's no room for ingredients to move). I filled the cup with water until it was about a half inch from the top, then dumped it into a measuring container and it read 2 cups even. It’s listed as 20 oz, but maybe that’s if you fill it to the brim (which is not recommended because there's no room for ingredients to move). I filled the cup with water until it was about a half inch from the top, then dumped it into a measuring container and it read 2 cups even. Since ingredients compact as they are blended, filling this thing with frozen fruit, oat milk, and 2 scoops of protein powder resulted in only about 10 oz of beverage which is less than half of a standard shaker bottle.Second, the cup is very narrow. The top opening is 3.25 inches, and the narrowest part of the base is 1.5 inches. It tapers down small enough that a strawberry will get stuck in it; you will have to pause your blending to shake up the cup and redistribute it’s ingredients, then resume blending. If this cup didn’t taper then fruit could blend easily instead of get stuck. Finally, the straw that broke the camels back, the cup is threaded on the inside instead of the outside. As a result of that they will get covered in your drink when the blade cap is removed. This means that if you need to add some water, or add an ingredient, to the cup after an initial blend, removing the blade cap will get your drink spread on the cup’s threads. Then when the blade cap is screwed back on, the drink squishes out around the cap and then spills when the blender is turned on. You can’t wipe it off either because once assembled the threads are about 1/8 of an inch back from the cup’s flange and out of reach of a towel. All of these issues would have been encountered during user acceptance testing so I’m not sure what Vitamix's excuse is. Given the quality and cost of their blenders I’m surprised that the blending cup is so bad. Especially when one competitor for drink blenders, Ninja, has a similar design and similar issues. And the other competitor, Nutribullet, avoids all of these issues and only costs $70.As other users noted, the blender cup is double walled and will separate in time. This will result in rust and condensation collecting between the cup walls.

Perfect Size for Smoothies!
1 December 2022

I find it super convenient for smoothies; I am mainly using this container for them and am not ending up with huge amounts impossible to finish. The self-detect works as it should. It has some flaws though which could be improved:- it sometimes mixes inconsistently, the top isn't as well mixed as the bottom. But some extra pulses or shaking the container works fine to counteract this;- I sometimes find it hard to open;- the gasket could be inserted a bit into the base (like it is in the lid). This could avoid that it sometimes gets squeezed out while closing (especially when wet, which it always is for the self-clean cycle), and then it is not leakproof anymore. But for me, it is still a very nice and convenient container, that I don't want to miss anymore!

Really hard to use
18 March 2023

Really needs much better instructions. Almost impossible to actually get to work. The best I can do is to line up one of the two triangles on the cup with one on the blade piece, screw it on just enough to keep the food inside from leaking out, turn Vitamix off and on again, and put the pieces on the Base. Then twist the cup right and left just until the Vitamix lights up to show it is detected. Hopefully, the cup has sealed enough so that your food doesn't leak out. The process is annoying at best, a big mess at worst, and usually just nothing happens.Plus, there is no tamper, no plug hole to stick a spoon in. That means that if the blend inside needs help, you have to remove the cup from the motor to shake it out open and stir it add liquid. Terrible Experience with the Blending Cup
12 May 2023

I recently purchased the Blending Cup with SELF-DETECT, and I must say that my experience has been nothing short of disappointing. Despite its promising features, this product has proven to be a complete letdown in terms of functionality and quality. Allow me to share my grievances, so you can make an informed decision before considering this blender cup.First and foremost, the most glaring issue with this product is its propensity to leak. No matter how securely I tightened the lid, I found myself constantly battling with annoying leaks during the blending process. No matter how securely I tightened the lid, I found myself constantly battling with annoying leaks during the blending process. Not only did this create a mess on my countertop, but it also resulted in a waste of ingredients and time. I expected a blending cup with "self-detect" to have a reliable seal, but unfortunately, that was far from the case.Adding insult to injury, the cup itself would frequently come unscrewed during blending. This caused a sudden disruption, forcing me to pause and reattach the cup multiple times during a single blending session. It's incredibly frustrating to have to constantly monitor and readjust the cup instead of enjoying a hassle-free blending experience. This design flaw clearly indicates a lack of attention to detail and quality control.Furthermore, the Blending Cup with SELF-DETECT failed to live up to its advertised capabilities. I was enticed by the promise of a seamless integration with my blender, ensuring effortless blending and optimal results. However, I found that the cup struggled to properly engage with the blender's base, resulting in inconsistent blending and subpar outcomes. It's disheartening to invest in a product that falls short of its lofty claims. In conclusion, the Blending Cup with SELF-DETECT is a complete disappointment. Its constant leaks, unscrewing issues, and failure to deliver on advertised features make it an unreliable and frustrating purchase. I regret wasting my hard-earned money on a product that simply does not work as promised. I strongly advise potential buyers to steer clear of this blender cup and explore more reliable alternatives on the market.

Worst Cup Design
15 December 2022

The Vitamix itself is great but these cups have to be one of the worst designed accessories I have ever seen. They are far too narrow/tapered, so they constantly jam and you need to take the cup off and shake it or mix it to actually get the contents to blend. The tapering also means you need to be extremely careful in what order you load the cup and it really limits what/how much you can put in the cup. In order to function the lid needs to be screwed down so tightly it often becomes extremely difficult to remove. I will be going back to my non-Vitamix blender for smoothies on the go.

blending cup is ok but not a favorite
22 February 2023

My blending cup came with the set I purchased. It wasn't one of the main features that influenced my purchase so I cannot complain about it. isn't my favorite. I feel like it is a little clunky and bulky but it works fine. I use it infrequently since I mostly use my blender pitcher for bulkier ingredients because it is easier than trying to put thee bulky ingredients into the blender cup. If I am only using smaller ingredients then I opt to us the blending cup because it does what I need and am satisfied with the results.
