Avoid. No good for bassinets, poor wifi switchover

Everything else is a huge letdown. If you have a bassinet then AVOID this monitor. You literally CANNOT see inside a bassinet with the hopeless pan/tilt. Even if you have tall furniture nearby to place the camera unit on, the pan/tilt features are insufficient to allow you to see into the bassinet and you'll probably just see the top rail. If you have a cot, then this unit may work for you, but I suspect only if you're prepared to drill into the wall to attach it.If you do buy this, then be prepared to jury-rig some kind of mount. We've literally had to zip-tie the wall mount to a mobile mount to even stand a chance of seeing into the bassinet.Moving on, you'll find that the audio is either so sensitive that you'll hear every passing car on the monitor (even if you can barely hear it as a human), or it'll occasionally just stop broadcasting audio entirely and you'll have to restart the camera to get it back. The wifi connection is hopeless. One of the main selling points of this camera is that it will switch between your home network and its own network depending on which is stronger. Sadly that switching is very flaky and if I move the monitor from one of the house to the other it entirely drops out. The only solution is to restart the monitor, at which point it finally jumps onto the home wifi. The VTech BabyHD app is passable, but again suffers from very loud and sensitive audio (more-so than the monitor). If you switch to a different app, be prepared for the Vtech app to restart and you'll have to wait for it to load the list of cameras and let you select it again. The VTech servers servicing the app seem to regularly stop working for a few hours without warning, which is quite frustrating when the monitor is charging elsewhere in the house and you're trying to use a phone. Don't even bother with trying to watch it on a tablet - there's only a phone app and you're left watching a grainy video sideways. This really does deserve a proper tablet app. When it comes to charging you're given two charging bricks with a USB-C plug on them... sadly they are not USB-C compliant devices so if you were planning to use your usb-c battery bank to power the camera whilst out (e.g. visiting friends, camping) then you'll have to use a USB-A to USB-C cable to get it to work. I guess this is all to save a few cents in manufacture. It would have been better had they stuck to a micro-usb socket.Sadly the battery life on the monitor is also lacking - especially if you disable the auto-dim feature of the monitor. The auto-dim feature dims the monitor when you haven't pressed any buttons for a while, which means that if you want to check on bub, then you have to move the pan/tilt or change the volume to be able to see.At the end of the day, the camera will work, but it does require a lot of fiddling about to get it to actually do what should work out of the box.I would not buy this again myself, and I would not recommend it to a friend. There are so many things that could have been done better.

I think this baby monitor is okay. It shows my baby clearly (even at night), I get the movement and sound notifications, yadda yadda. And I like that you can use your phone as a parent monitor, take pics, manually record video and even have the camera record any movement it catches. My only gripe so far is that the parent monitor this camera comes with has a very crappy batter life. It won't last a full night on a single charge. You'd have to stay close to a charger because you will need it. I spend more time charging this thing that using it wirelessly. Kinda defeats the purpose. But because this whole thing is cheap and has the other perks, I'm keeping it.

This monitor is such an upgrade from the Motorola & Summer Infant monitors we had with our now 6 year old! The picture is crystal clear (both day and night) & the sound is outstanding!! We have two sound machines running within 4 feet of the camera & we are still able to hear our daughter make the quietest little grunt! The features the parental unit has is mind blowing. From music, to white noise, to alarms for motion & sound detection, to temperature readings, LCD screen settings & not to mention- the optional WiFi set up that you can use via app on your phone. After coming back from a vacation- I went to use our monitor for the first time in 10 days & I received a blue screen stating “no baby unit paired” & I did not have a menu option to pair the camera back. I spent 2 days troubleshooting, googling & reading blogs before realizing there was a VTech technical support number that I was able to call. I was blown away by how quickly technical support was able to help me. After realizing every time I powered off the parental unit- it reset itself & disconnected my camera, tech support immediately offered to send me a brand new monitor- no questions asked!! It was THAT simple!!

Loses connection CONSTANTLY
28 December 2021

We love the ability to be able to see baby on our phones when one of us isn’t home or baby is with Grandma and the ability to have the monitor next to our bed at night to be able to hear/see throughout the night comfortably. however, the monitor CONSTANTLY loses connection for no reason at all. One moment it will be working perfectly fine, the next no secure connection. We have the fastest internet that AT&T can provide and WiFi extenders, all purchased to try to alleviate this issue. After trying these outlets to fix the problem, the only other possibility where the issue originates from is the monitor itself. The only way we have found to fix the problem is to re-pair the camera and monitor together. The only way we have found to fix the problem is to re-pair the camera and monitor together. But imagine you just laid down your sleeping baby in their comfy crib only to find that you in fact can’t see them on the monitor, so your one moment of relaxation becomes a stressful mess to get the camera & monitor up and running for peace of mind through naps and at night. After unpairing and repairing (at least an hour of work multiple times a week), you can finally take a moments break. Mom and Dad already are tired, we don’t need anymore setbacks! We aren’t hard to please, as long as I can see baby is breathing I’m a happy camper, but unfortunately this monitor can’t even provide that, it is super inconsistent.

I was impressed at first, but honestly it's not great and already having issues after a few months use.The battery life on the screen is appalling, I wouldn't even say you can use it without being plugged in! Always running out which makes it redundant when wanting to use the screen on the move whilst baby is napping. We are now getting the loss of connection errors on a regular occurrence. Having to turn on and off again for it to link is ridiculous and not something you want to be doing in a room with a sleeping baby. If it does actually connect it takes forever to load! I will also note we have a new build home and our babies room is directly above our lounge. Terrible battery life and mobile app
8 September 2022

We got this monitor because of its option to have the accompanying parent unit and the mobile app on our iphones. The parent unit battery life is TERRIBLE. I repeat TERRIBLE! The unit doesn't last longer than maybe 30 minutes when not plugged in after roughly 6 months of use. This means we have to rely on our Iphones. Which would be bothersome but not so terrible if the app worked properly. The app was recently redesigned but only connects half the time and has to be restarted everytime you want to check. It also starts up at full volume for like a second even if the volume on the device is all the way down, which is incredibly loud and has woken up my wife several times. This entire product seems rushed to market, no one seems in any hurry to fix kinks and as a ... MoreWe got this monitor because of its option to have the accompanying parent unit and the mobile app on our iphones. Unreliable - A complete waste of money
1 January 2022

This was purchased for us as a gift almost 12 months ago but we only recently started using it when we moved our baby into his own room. It worked for a week or two before the camera stopped connecting completely. It could not be reset or paired with the parent monitor via Bluetooth. VTech took a few days to resolve the issue by email, but we were sent a new camera a couple of weeks later. The parent monitor then stopped working. We’d had a few issues with a lagging connection previously, but it always connected within 5 minutes. It now won’t even start, and sits in a constant cycle of rebooting itself (start up blue screen followed by a black screen, in a loop) until it either shuts down completely (and won’t respond to the power button) or I manually reset it so ... MoreThis was purchased for us as a gift almost 12 months ago but we only recently started using it when we moved our baby into his own room. I can look past the incredibly inaccurate temperature readings, the loud white noise, poor battery life, and the bright screen, but having to move my baby back into our room twice for weeks on end in a bassinet that he is much too big for so I can keep an eye on him is ridiculous. This monitor costs far too much money for something that works 10% of the time. I am writing this at 2:30 in the morning trying to get my baby back to sleep after I had to move him into our room again in the middle of the night because the unit stopped working, yet again.

Bought in April, was working fine until August when it has suddenly started losing connection (even when Its in the same place it’s been all night) and the only way to fix it is by going upstairs and turning the camera off and on again. Not ideal if baby is asleep! I take the parent unit with me to make sure it connects… obviously on connection the parent unit likes to make a couple of nice loud beeps to let you know it’s all connected :,).It also doesn’t have a very far reach - I can’t even take it to my kitchen without the connection dropping (even with the antenna up).Talk back doesn’t always work. Works for few months. Garbage

I decided on this monitor because my daughter has a different model & its great. I’m very mad that this model didn’t even last 3 months & I only used it few times when I babysit. First issue was it didn’t turn off & then continued to beep saying it wasn’t connected. I had to wrap it in pillow and put in garage because of the constant beeping! Next it would connect for half hour then say it was too far from baby unit & disconnect. Eventually the screen just constantly said trying to connect & no matter what you do you cannot get it to work. (& this was for battery use NOT WiFi). Wouldn’t even let me connect to wifi if I wanted to. Bought at BestBuy & of course it died right after 3 month return policy. I think leaving bad reviews is only ok when it’s useful. I loved this monitor in the first 3 months! Simple, did the job… has an alert system for whatever temperatures you’d like to be notified for if it’s too hot or cold, clear resolution so I could see the baby well, 0 glitching like skipping or delays… until after 3 months. For the last month it is a nightly battle to get this thing on wifi, we’ve even put the router next to it. Whatever you can think of, we have done it. Once it finally does connect to wifi, the picture is completely whited out, or the night vision won’t work so I can’t see him. That’s just an annoying hiccup, because I can still hear. But tonight, the temperature feature failed us. We have a heater that automatically turns off after a half hour ... MoreI think leaving bad reviews is only ok when it’s useful. We have a heater that automatically turns off after a half hour and we can set our desired temp. I left the heater on 69°, ceiling fan on… it’s 20° outside. We’re going through a major sleep regression and I’m on 3 hours of sleep… yeah, mom fail—I am human. Obviously changing the heater as well. But this is exactly the reason why the temperature feature exists. My child started to scream and when I entered his room it was 75° (we have a room thermometer) and my vtech still said 68°. I guess if you don’t spend $400 on a baby camera it just isn’t worth it. In the thick of the sleep regression, we all need our sleep AND absolute safety. Which is the sole purpose of this machine. Contacting the company tomorrow, but don’t buy this thing.
