A Product Not Ready For Market

Let me preface this review by saying that I own many Wahoo products and love them - ELEMNT Bolt, KICKR, both bike sensors, and the Tickr. I’ve always thought those to be high quality products that work great for me. That’s why I was so excited when Wahoo launched the Rival, but what a huge disappointment. For starters, I had to unpair and then pair the watch to my phone every time I wanted to upload an activity. After being told it was something they’re aware of I was willing to wait for an update that’d hopefully fix the problem. The watch then had some pretty bad GPS and altimeter accuracy, and for the price tag this wasn’t something I was really willing to just look past. For comparison I own a $160 watch from another company with better GPS accuracy. For comparison I own a $160 watch from another company with better GPS accuracy. The final straw for me was when I went to use the touchless transition feature during a brick workout and it didn’t work at all. After the workout was over I spent a couple hours trying to get it to work using the troubleshooting page on Wahoo’s website but had no luck. I’ve returned the watch for a refund (had to pay the return shipping costs of $90 CAD per Wahoo’s return policy) as I feel the product I received does not meet the expected quality for the price tag it carries, nor does it meet the quality of other Wahoo products from my experience.I haven’t even touched on the App, which is a great app for connecting your cycling computers etc. However, for a wearable it’s just no appropriate. This was something I was willing to overlook because I’m not really interested in my 24hr HR, stored step counts, etc. However I know some people are interested in that sort of thing.Overall, I think that this watch has a lot of great potential but it’s been released far too soon. Wahoo still have A LOT of ironing out to do with improving even the very basic functions on this watch to make sure they perform reliably and to even come close to justifying the price tag that this watch carries.

This watch is a must-have if you are a tri-athlete or you're looking for a non-expensive GPS watch for running out cycling.Sensors are accurate, information easily readable, battery lasting (charging is fast).Despite its size and weight, it fits well on the wrist and become natural to wear. The configuration can be long and tiresome at the beginning to display the info that are essential to your activities but I don't regret this expense that level up my trainings.

The RIVAL has features that no other multi-sport watch has at the moment. It automatically synchronizes with my ROAM during triathlons and allows me to go through T1/T2 without ever touching the watch. The battery life is fantastic when compared to its competitors, even when you factor in days hiking/climbing where it is using GPS the entire time. Activities are automatically shared with Strava and all other authorized external apps after ending the activity. Wahoo has been consistently releasing new features (as they do with all their products) free of charge. I highly recommend this watch to anyone involved with the Wahoo ecosystem.

Dude where’s my route?
30 September 2022

I would buy It again but wish it had taken a bit more from Garmin and Apple. The watch is intuitive to use. But it’s lacking some features that would otherwise make me want to keep it on after a run or ride. Wahoo has it figured out with the app. The screen is clear and super easy to read. The zoom and pages are easy to use. I think wahoo set to make a triathlon watch and didn’t think much about the three sports as individual activities. )-:Can we get a longer strap that can be cut to length? Am I the only one with big wrists? GPS… Where’s my map when I’m using the watch? Can I get some YouTube how to videos?

Elemnt rival

I have mixed reviews so far. The watches ability to send me notifications and to upload activities is extremely unreliable and intermittent. This is an incredibly frustrating experience. I have restarted the watch, disconnected and reconnected the Bluetooth, updated and anything else I can think of to troubleshoot this issue with no success. As with other smart watches, it would be very nice if the watch could track all day calories instead if only the activities which are tracked. Tracking of sleeping patterns would also be beneficial.Any help with the issues listed above would be greatly appreciated

Exceptional experience. Highly recommend.
21 December 2021

Excellent experience. Has worked seamlessly and easily, right out of the box. Simple set-up and effortless use between indoor and outdoor environments. Had been using Garmin for years. Started using the Elemnt Roam a year ago together with the Sufferfest app (now Systm). Worked beautifully on my trainer and on the road. Figured I'd give the Rival a shot and have not regretted it. Have seen some comments about lack of data and can't understand it--endless options exist for data and display config based on various workout profiles. Looking forward to getting into the water to start using swim profiles soon.

Good, but no Apple Watch
6 March 2022

I really wanted to like this. A lot of great features. But it just could no compete with the usage my Apple Watch gave me. Something even as simple as having the screen at as a flashlight.I tried both for a couple days and debated selling my Apple Watch. But I ended up returning this watch.Far better than my old Fitbit and other smart watch. But not quite up to Apple Watch options.Otherwise I love. If you don’t like Apple Watch. Get this one.

Nice watch but quite a few niggles
28 January 2023

There are plenty of good things about the ELEMNT Rival - the watch face is nice and clear, it's easy to use in water and on the move, has simple controls, a good range of activities to record, looks good and seems really robust. However I have a few grumbles. First - the step counter and lap counter in swim mode are inaccurate. The watch records the slightest movement of the arm as a step. That's a pretty basic flaw for a sports watch. Second - it's marketed as simple to use but that hasn't been my experience. For example, I can't figure out how to record things like indoor to outdoor brick sessions accurately, despite advice from tech support. I also can't figure out how to stop the watch from interfering with erg mode on Zwift. Third - it doesn't record heart rate ... MoreThere are plenty of good things about the ELEMNT Rival - the watch face is nice and clear, it's easy to use in water and on the move, has simple controls, a good range of activities to record, looks good and seems really robust. Third - it doesn't record heart rate data constantly so it's impossible to get an accurate resting heart rate reading, even if paired to a health app. Think I would go for a forerunner if I was choosing again as you get much more from the Garmin eco system and this watch is just OK.

No nonsense
26 December 2020

Compared to Garmin, Suunto and Polar watches I’ve owned in the past, this Wahoo one feels much more intuitive and no nonsense. It lacks some features of competing models, but having read DC Rainmaker review, I decided I didn’t need anything that it lacks (e.g. advanced daily activity tracking, navigation, 3rd party watch faces/widgets, music, contactless payments etc). I just want something that gives me the ability to log my running, cycling & swimming mileage accurately and intuitively, and it does that well. I use a TICKR hr strap so can’t comment on the optical hr accuracy, but GPS has looked good enough for me so far, better than I was seeing with my Polar Vantage. The screen is clear and easy to read when I’m out running, and the zoom feature is great for my ... MoreCompared to Garmin, Suunto and Polar watches I’ve owned in the past, this Wahoo one feels much more intuitive and no nonsense. Good to see Wahoo have a crack at the GPS watch market, interested to see where it takes them.
