I’ve used a chest strap to monitor my heart rate whilst cycling for years. It has been comfortable and reliable, giving me useful data in real time, but I thought an arm band would not get so sweaty and would be easier to keep clean.Sadly I was disappointed with this product. I tried it over six long rides (6 hrs+) in several different positions and at differing levels of tightness, so think I gave it a fair test.My main grumble is that it is not reliable (in the scientific sense of that word). Sometimes it stops giving a reading and at other times the readings do not correlate with my perceived exertion. So, I can work hard to maintain my speed on a climb, to the point where I am breathing more heavily, but this wrist strap will indicate that my heart rate ... MoreI’ve used a chest strap to monitor my heart rate whilst cycling for years. So, I can work hard to maintain my speed on a climb, to the point where I am breathing more heavily, but this wrist strap will indicate that my heart rate remains steady for a good while, only rising after an appreciable delay. I also suspect that it ‘rounds out’ the peaks and troughs of my heart rate as well.I think there are two underlying problems with this design:a) it sometimes fails to detect my pulse at all. This might be my fault as I have very skinny arms.b) I wonder if it counts your pulse over too long an interval. So, if it counts your pulse over (say) a 30 second interval, then inevitably the readings are delayed, and not in real time, but it will also give you an average heart rate over that time, rather than a more precise reading.Cumulatively this means I can’t trust the data. I’m going to go back to my chest strap.

The TICKR FIT Heart Rate Monitor works great! It syncs quickly and holds a charge through several workouts. I charge it after four workouts of about an hour each. It would run longer, but I don’t want it to run out of battery life during a workout. The batteries could last for several more hours. It keeps an accurate heart rate based on what my fitness watch indicates. I doubt both devices measure the same incorrect heart rate. The TICKR FIT fits comfortably on my forearm. It does not have to pushed up so high on your arm that it is uncomfortable. Position it up your forearm until it is lightly snug. I forget it is there it is so light. I hold back one star for possible durability issues. I have only had the TICKR FIT for about two weeks. I used the Wahoo heart ... MoreThe TICKR FIT Heart Rate Monitor works great! I will move my rating to five stars if the it is durable.

There is always time for Wahoo. The straps on my TICKR keep breaking in the same way as the snap device would become unglued and remain on the unit. It happened again and again. Twice ,I simply bought a new TICKR. I was able to re-glue the older TICKER (my second ) but that would only last a ride or two even though I was very careful removing it after a ride. I called Wahoo and spoke to Liam (? I think) and he was extremely kind and send me three new straps… FREE . I bought this to replace my 2nd Wahoo Tickr X (the strap fell apart, again...) because it was the only thing left in stock at my local REI at the time. While it's been nice not flashing everyone in the parking lot while affixing a chest strap, it hasn't been without its issues as well. The proprietary charging cable, as well as the permanent non-replacable battery, have always nagged at me. They work, but for how long, and how long before the special cable gets lost? I guess I won't know due to the current status. Second issue is that fitment has always been a bit finicky. The strap doesn't have much flex in it, and when you're mountain biking, your forearm flexes and if it's too snug, that kinda sucks. The strap doesn't have much flex in it, and when you're mountain biking, your forearm flexes and if it's too snug, that kinda sucks. But being optical, snug isn't optional if you want any sort of consistent data. It usually takes a couple tries before it's dialed in and then it just does its job. The final straw, and according to Amazon reviews this isn't super uncommon, was the other day when the portion of the body that holds onto one end of the strap simply snapped off. The best part... it happened almost exactly one month after the warranty expired (13 months of use.) Suffice it to say, I'm about done with Wahoo at this point.
I’ve bought three of these so this is a mixed review. The first one works and dies intermittently. The second, sent free of charge after much grief with support seems to work OK. This third one has so far not failed. Good: - when it works it’s the best HRM I’ve ever owned (better than any Scostche, Garmin or Polar I’ve ever owned in past 15 years.) - comfortable. I really don’t like chest straps. - long battery life. I wore the second one on Unbound 200 and it had no problem lasting the entire 15+ hours (Unfortunately my GPS had long died by then!) - works in wet and mud. Covered with wet, sticky mud it will still work. Bad: - sometimes fails to transmit signal to head unit. - sometimes dies mid-ride, fully charged - like ten minutes in and never comes back. - in ... MoreI’ve bought three of these so this is a mixed review. I hate wearing watches, so this works out great for me! Easy to use, accurate, long battery life, breathes well, and is comfortable. The app isn't a nice as some of the subscription ones, but still gets the job done. It can be paired with these other higher end health and fitness apps easily, but I have preferred using it inside its native app so far. The indicator is about right for heart rate when worn on the upper wrist, I'd say within 2-5% of a medical grade reader. The only time it is slightly uncomfortable is when using cross country ski poles. Using your lower arm like that makes it a little more noticeable is all, not painful, but you know its there. I am guessing someone using it for weight training might have the same issue. You can barely feel it other ... MoreI hate wearing watches, so this works out great for me! This is the second of these Tickr monitors I have has in 18 months. Lessons from the first. As per instructions, always wet the strap electrodes before using else you may need to wait until you start sweating before you get readings. Do not open the battery holder unless you really must. It has quite a strong spring and is likely to fly off into parts unknown. The battery level can be checked by the Wahoo app. The battery holder also probably has a very small o ring. If lost this will let in water when you rinse off sweat or let in sweat vapour. The holder also has 3 delicate locating legs which can easily break. Again compromising water resistance. Works well and is priced well but could be better engineered. The distributors give good service.
It's an affordable and well performing unit and I'm glad I got it. I bought it mainly to add to the metrics I get from my Water Rower which has an old style monitor that has a tendency to disconnect. I paired the TICKR to the Wahoo app on my iPhone. Thus having an output of rowing effort in heart rate is very helpful. The unit is quite responsive and seems accurate. I also have the TICKR paired to my Element Bolt so I can see the heart rate during my bike rides. This application really shines. I like the different color LEDs that correspond to my effort/heart rate zones. The data displayed after the ride is also cool. I like the overlays of heart rate and climbing data.
I wanted to like this, but the data was SO up and down. Regularly my HR was recorded inaccurate on my runs when I paired with my Garmin. I did everything every blog told me -wetting it, making it so tight it left an indent in my chest, changing what I was wearing, etc. literally nothing helped. Then some days it was totally fine. Sometimes it just stopped working, even after I replaced the battery and tried to reset the device with the flipped battery trick. I tried it with Wahoo Kickr and it seemed to mostly work better, but not all the time. Sometimes HR would just freeze. I cared for it by wiping down after every workout too. Finally just gave up.
This worked well, I’ve had just over a year now. I wear it several times a week outdoors and on the trainer. Good signal, I like that I can send HR to zwift and to my Garmin at the same time. Reads consistently and has good resolution. The snap faster works well. I liked that it was waterproof. But on that note, the battery cover has thin little tabs that engage in the body of the monitor to close it. You twist to open and close. Recently when changing the battery one of the tabs broke when I put the cover back on but I didn’t realize it. I had errant readings and signal drops so I thought maybe I wasn’t getting a good connection on the strap. I washed it off and then discovered the cover wasn’t sealed completely and water and sweat got in. So now the monitor will ... MoreThis worked well, I’ve had just over a year now. These should be more robust since it is a contact point that is supposed to maintain a critical seal. In my opinion this is a design flaw. I like it otherwise. Bummer that it’s outside the warranty too.
