Yamaha BB234 Bass Guitar (Raspberry Red)
The BB 234’s body is crafted from lightweight alder to produce a smooth, deep bass tone with a beefy midrange and a slightly sizzling high end. Its strong, full-bodied sound works well when paired with the brightness of a maple neck, adding plenty of depth and dynamics to the overall tone. The maple neck is coupled with a rosewood fingerboard, adding complexity to the high end and providing a smooth playing experience. The neck also features an incredibly thin profile, improving its playability and feel to suit modern and traditional players. Versatile Custom V3 Pickups The Yamaha BB 234 is equipped with a set of powerful custom V3 pickups, with a split single-coil at the neck and a bar single-coil at the bridge. This configuration is perfect for players who enjoy playing a wide range of musical styles, while the ceramic magnets ensure the bass delivers a clear, well-defined sound. The custom V3 pickups offer a beautiful, full-bodied tonality, with an excellent articulation that adds to playing dynamics. A single tone control and 2 volume controls provide versatile tone shaping, allowing players to dial in the perfect sound for their playing. High-Quality Hardware Yamaha’s BB Bass Guitar is finished with a range of high-quality appointments, delivering excellent sound, feel, and playability. A set of lightweight tuners provide better balance than standard tuners, complementing the overall feel of the bass while its open-gear design adds to the Yamaha’s aesthetics. A 4-bolt plate holds the neck to the body, providing extra cut to the overall tone, while the urea nut helps improve string stability. The vintage style bridge also adds to the stunning look of the BB 234, providing the bass with its classic look.

Great value and lovely tight tone…..Did have to adjust relief, action and intonation once we got it home…. Now plays like a much more expensive instrument…. I do wish guitar shops would set up guitars properly at time of purchase for free.

This is a great bass. I can compare it to a BBP34 I have, also from MusicStore. It is very easy to play, a very thin neck. The sound compares to the BBP, it has the same nuances. It responds well to setup changes. One modification was really necessary: shielding, I covered all cavities in aluminum foil and connected to ground. Now it is silent.I will still replace the bridge, it is not so stable, the string-saddles tend to move sideways. But for this money it is acceptable. All in all a very nice bass for 20% the cost of a BBP - and they sound almost the same! If you want to try a 5-string, try this one. You will not regret it.

This bass has the best sounding J pickup I've ever owned on a P/J bass. I always buy P/J basses as I prefer the slimmer necks that they usually have with the P pickup and never use the J pickup as they usually leave a lot to be desired for my ear. They usually sound congested with too much emphasis on the mid range. The mid range tones are present but the tone has more of a J neck pickup characteristic as opposed to a bridge J pickup.I was concerned about the fret edges when I bought this one as I saw a video review complain about how sharp they were. Are they as smooth as the higher end models I've played. No, they are not. Is the bass useable right now without a set up. Yes it is! I plan on using it a my next gig.

Bass was setup right out of the box. No sharp edges on the fretboard and it is well constructed. No loose screws and everything is in place. The P pickup sounds good. Very similar to a P bass. The J pickup was very noisy. Low quality pickup. My guess they have to cut costs somewhere in order to offer so much bass for a little over $300.00. I usually replace stock pickups so, this was not a big deal for me but could be for a beginner player. I bought it as a backup, but it has become my main player now. I gave it 5 stars because its a lot of bass for the money and the pickup issue can be easily solved.
I've been playing bass for 44 years. I have more expensive, higher quality basses, but back in the 80s when I first began playing, I always wanted a Yamaha BB series. While at Guitar Center, I noticed they had this Yamaha bass. Not the more expensive, higher end Yamaha like those I coveted 44 years ago, but I figured I'd give it a try. WOW! WAS I SURPRISED at the sound, quality and feel of this bass, and the price was INCREDIBLY LOW for what seemed like a bass worth much more. Long story short, I went ahead and bought this Yamaha, assuming I'd just take it to rehearsals, practice at home, etc. LOL, I ended up playing it much more often than I thought. GREAT JOB Yamaha!
Bought as backup guitar but it's unique sounds means it will feature on certain songs.Neck plays well, bass sound bright and punchy.Easy to setup. Change strings to suit your style.Buy you want be disappointed at its price.
I purchased this bass recently, thinking it would be a backup to my Reverend. But I play the BB234 more and more. it is very comfortable to hold and play, comfortable neck, and it sounds great. I don't think you could find a better bass for this price or even higher.
Very good for the price bass, better than the ones I've tried in its price range. The tone, frets, playability are all very nice and the finish is also pretty. The only think I would point out is the pots (they make a weird noise when you rotate them + the volume knob doesn't go all the way down)
If you're in the market for an affordably priced well built bass guitar with cool retro styling and the versatility to blend into just about any musical setting check out this Yamaha BB234 bass today. For the money it's just plain tough to beat Yamaha as they have decades of experience building basses. You start with an excellent Alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, 34" scale length, great finish quality, good quality tuners that hold tune, vintage style bridge with individually adjustable saddles, ceramic P and J style pickups, and a simple to dial in electronic setup (two volumes and a master tone). The materials and parts used are all excellent quality doesn't seem like they cut any corners. I'd suggest one of the Gator Transit series gig bags and some D'Addario NYXL strings as a few great add ons as this bass doesn't include a bag/case and the NYXL bass strings play and sound great. Also be sure to get the setup plan to protect your investment and keep it playing it's best.
was set up well. been playing for a bit, didnt change a thing except removed the ugly pick guard. much better look.
