Absolutely fantastic product. Have used it twice and it has blown me away. At first I used it like a regular cooler and it did an amazing job, still some ice after 4 days. Second time I followed all of the tips & tricks recommended by YETI and there was still ice after 5 days. The construction is very solid, the roller wheels are so much better than I expected - smooth, solid, virtually no noise on hard surfaces. Handle is beefy and made out of great materials. The only reason I have given it 4 stars is because I haven't used it long term yet so I'll come back after a year or so and re-rate based on my experience around how the cooler holds up over time and abuse.

We have a Coleman cooler with wheels and a handle. I got the Yeti for my husbands birthday since we host get togethers outdoors often. He wanted a cooler outside and in the garage. The yeti serves its purpose. Keeps cool for days and looks nice. The negative side, it’s SUPER heavy once filled and not easy to move by yourself. No wheels and handles are on each side for a dead lift scenario. It’s a cooler that you need to fill once it’s in its designated spot and doesn’t need to be moved after that.

Yeti touts how durable and tough these coolers are but I will say my experience was the exact opposite. We got it to go car camping & after having a $30 Coleman cooler the last 8 years where your ice is gone by day 2 we decided it was time to spend an obscene amount of money on a Tundra, because it would last forever. Well… we brought it car camping ONCE and it was ruined.Turns out, putting your Yeti cooler on a hitch rack on a Subaru Forester is not something I encourage unless it’s on the opposite side of the exhaust.Yes, exhaust is hot, we know, but we’ve had our Coleman in the same spot for years and never had a problem so we didn’t think twice with a cooler that can stand up to a bear. Boy, were we wrong. The exhaust melted the side off down to the foam.We ... MoreYeti touts how durable and tough these coolers are but I will say my experience was the exact opposite. We got it to go car camping & after having a $30 Coleman cooler the last 8 years where your ice is gone by day 2 we decided it was time to spend an obscene amount of money on a Tundra, because it would last forever. Boy, were we wrong. The exhaust melted the side off down to the foam.We had it a foot back and a foot offset and it still ruined this cooler. Also it got pretty scratched up and we’re the type that’s pretty good to our gear so if you have a darker cooler, keep that in mind.I have an additional star because despite it melting, we still had ice.I was also really disappointed both Yeti and REI said “that really sucks but there’s nothing we can do.” Not even a way to fix it. So we’re out $400 (more w. accessories) and I now have negative feelings towards two brands I used to be incredibly proud to support. All in all, I used to be a huge Yeti fan. I own about 22 of their products but after this, I likely will look elsewhere.

First and only use. Preloaded cooler full of ice 3 hours prior to unloading all ice. Then transferred half the ice into three gallon and 1 one gallon zip lock bags and then loaded the cooler with food and the zip lock bags of ice. After 24 hours with one night camping and multiple lid openings the ice was still 95 % intact. Day time high was 82F and night time low was 49F . Cooler was kept outside in the shade. We were happy with the cooler performance though the conditions were not too demanding (Phoenix winter). The cooler performance comes at a cost - both $$ & lbs. At 27lbs empty and large in nature, this cooler is quite heavy and awkward when loaded. Recommend two person lift and carry. This was a present from my daughter and son in law for our new boat. In addition to doing an excellent job keeping things cold, it is tough serving as a additional seat or step stool. But it earned its keep this summer as I packed it full of frozen ribeyes that I bought on sale in a popular supermarket in Florida and hauled them on a two day trip to our summer home in western New York State. I thought that after two days in the back of the car, some of the steaks might show some sign of thawing but no. All 16 were just as brick hard as when I put them in the cooler. Excellent product that lives up to its claims.
Had it for about a month and ended up returning it. It was too big and awkward to carry and move fully loaded. Also the ice retention wasn’t what I expected. I did everything right regarding pre chilling and ice ratio and only got about 3.5 days until the ice melted in moderate temps. It only outperformed my old cheap cooler by a day. Also the drain plug either leaked or had a lot of condensation because I kept having a small puddle. The build is solid though. Very durable, tough and looks good. I may try the Tundra 45 for the smaller size but may look into other brands. I was a bit disappointed the Yeti I always wanted didn’t perform as expected.
I loved theYeti Tundra 65 cooler I had three other friends buy one literally at our party because I couldn’t stop talking about it. Moosejaw has been amazing as a company I called about an order it was no problem she was able to update me and I had another order the next day. So honestly does it take two people to carry maybe unless you can bench press a lot on your own. But isn’t that the point if your bringing a cooler that big friends help friends! I’ve fallen in love with Moosejaw after this buy don’t worry am wait for the right time to add to my collection of Yedi cooler with one that has wheels for when it’s just me. Everything stays cold we forgot I stored ice for a friends party a week later still had some ice left. Mind blowing!!
Have owned this cooler for about 4 years now and it has served its purpose many times over. Many a time has it been left in the back of my summer scorched SUV for a couple of days after use and the couple beers left are still swimming in an icy water; the perfect reward for when you are unloading the cooler 3 days after that concert. If there is a drawback to this it is the weight when it is fully loaded with appropriate ice for what you are storing; a full load of beer (about 28 12oz cans when using appropriate amounts of ice) will tip in close to a hundred pounds. I also appreciate the rubber base on the outside bottom of the cooler. While I don’t have an issue in my SUV, if have a pick up truck, it won’t slide around the bed while your transporting it.
So hard to determine best cooler size when trying to purchase one for lifetime..Tried Pelican..awesome lifetime warranty but overly bulky.Tried several Yeti copies..None as good. However, Yeti tundra cooler size options deceive.. thought 45 would be all round best bet..but when paying top dollar for cooler - you want enough cooler space to keep weeks worth of food..For me the 45 is just too small which is advertised incorrectly. If shopping for top quality Yeti Tundra cooler I personally highly recommend best to purchase 65 (or larger).Best all round cooler on the market…
I wanted to up my cooler game, and chose the Yeti Tundra. I like the design, the handles, and all, but I'm underwhelmed with its performance. I followed their recommendations and pre-chilled, added lots of ice and frozen foods, and it made it about 3 days.I talked to a friend of mine, who loves her Yeti -- she said in order to keep it cold longer, take a second cooler along for the first couple days and don't open the Yeti until the third day, bring towels to fill it as the food and ice dissolve (though she never is out long enough to replenish food and ice, so didn't have a strategy for managing the soggy towels) -- point being, this cooler seems to need a LOT of support! I sure don't have room in my van to bring along a second cooler and towels to help the Tundra perform! Is this an accurate description of what people are doing? It seems to me that if I did all those things to boost the cooler, I could increase the performance of a much cheaper cooler?
