Yongnuo YN 50mm f/1.8 Lens For Canon EF
This fantastic prime lens is an excellent addition to your current lens lineup. With a 50mm focal length and F1.8 aperture, it's perfectly suited for portraiture. A 50mm lens also tends to be close to the human eye in terms of magnification factor, making it ideal for casual and street photography. The large max aperture also lends it to lower-light situations better than the standard kit lens, which might max out at F4 or F5.6. This lens features multi-coated glass elements for proper color rendition and minimal ghosting or flaring in bright settings. It's suited equally well for shooting on full-frame camera bodies or APS-C format cameras, where it actually provides an 80mm equivalent focal length. The aperture diaphram is made up of 7 individual blades, which provides a smooth bokeh when you're working with selective focus. As for the mount itself, its contacts are gold-plated, allowing for a perfect connection and reliable functionality with the camera. At the entry level of photo gear, this lens will do what you ask of it, delivering sharp images and helping you save both space and money for filling up the rest of your camera bag.

I originally said this was a good lens. I went back and did Microadjustment on the lens going to -8. What an improvement. I went out in the garage and took 2 pictures of the barcode on a box of Grip Rite screws from Lowes at 6 feet, that barcode square is about 1.3 inch by 1.25 inch. One with the adjustment and one without the adjustment. Poor lighting, tripod, same exposure, fully open f1.8 on both. I uploaded the photos to my phone and then I cropped down to just the barcode using the Lightroom app. Hopefully you can see how the one with no adjustments is a bit fuzzy, and the one with adjustment you can make out the numbers and bars. Im not saying go -8 in your camera, it may be different, but it might be worth a try.

I bought this lens as the first expansion beyond the kit lenses that came with my Canon Rebel T6i. The “nifty fifty” focal length comes highly recommended due to its fast aperture and affordable price, even in the Canon variant. But for me, saving an extra hundred bucks by going for the Yongnuo version was worth the possible drop in quality.Overall, the lens is great. Nice, fast 1.8 aperture allows for fast shutter speeds, and while it’s not the absolute sharpest lens out there, it is perfect for someone that is expanding into fast primes for the first time. Autofocus is noisy compared to USM, but is fast enough to get the job done. I wouldn’t use it for anything with movement, but taking portraits and still life shots were easy enough with this system. In my opinion, it performs far above its price point, but even so, it’s not perfect. It is a fantastic value as long as you temper your expectations.

I have had the Yongnuo YN 50mm f/1.8 Lens out on over 20 different photo shoots and it has exceeded my expectations. One might be tempted to think that this lens is priced to low to be of any value but you would be wrong.Build Quality:The weight of this lens is enough in the hand that it does not feel cheap. It is however, not so heavy that you do not want to use it.The print on the lens is nicely done. You will not have an issue reading it in most all conditions. The focus ring has a very positive feel to it. It is not so tight that you cannot make on the fly corrections, but it is tight enough that you do not need to worry about losing your focus randomly. The glass that is used in this lens is clear and provided crisp and clean images. This lens is made ... MoreI have had the Yongnuo YN 50mm f/1.8 Lens out on over 20 different photo shoots and it has exceeded my expectations. The locking ring for the lens (mating surface to the camera) is made out of metal. When the lens is installed onto the body it there is zero play in the locking system and it locks very smooth.Photo Quality:This is a bit subjective since settings within the camera will dictate the overall image quality. So with the understanding that the operator has done His/Her job correctly, you will not be disappointed by this lens. The images are sharp and clean. The depth of field is fantastic allowing for those gorgeous portrait shots that leave that background buttery smooth while moving your subject to the main focus of the shot. The auto focus works as it should without being overly loud or distracting. If you are looking for a entry level lens for portraits and other applications, this would be a fantastic choice. If you are a seasoned photographer, this lens is for you as well. It will deliver the performance that you want at a price point that will not have you upset if a accident happens.

Listen its a pretty good deal cheapy lens, but there are problems as I found with one I purchased. Firstly the images can be crisp and sharp and i'm still using the one I purchased around 3 years ago. I take on board that for the money your going to get some Chromatic aberration. What is a pain in the neck lets say you have this on auto and you want to focus the lens, It tends to just zip past that focus opint you want, so if you do not mind doing this manually then your good to go. I also have a genuine Canon lens similar so always have one fitted to either of my cameras. Really, if ya can't afford the Canon lens this will do for the moment, I must admit i get some really good shots with this lens. Take good care when handling as made of plastic, Just be aware not ... MoreListen its a pretty good deal cheapy lens, but there are problems as I found with one I purchased. I definitely recommend going with this lens if you plan on using it for Photography. It blurs the background very nicely to give you that awesome bokeh effect you see in many professional photos. If you plan to use this for recording short films or YouTube videos I highly recommend saving up for the “nifty fifty” or 50mm f1.8 canon stm lens. Why? because the yongnuo auto focus is extremely loud and a lot slower than the canon lens. This can ruin the sound quality of your video. I bought this because I knew it would serve me very well photography wise until I could save up enough money for the canon 50mm f1.8 stm lens. I am a youtuber and I’m very disappointed that it won’t work for my videos but as a semi-pro photographer I am extremely pleased with this purchase. ... MoreI definitely recommend going with this lens if you plan on using it for Photography. For those not too familar with photography principles. This 50mm lens has a very wide aperture (aka fast) f/1.8@50mm at a great price. This has allowed me to take cool pictures in low light situations (like haloween & XMAS decorations) at a shutter speed where you do not need a tripod (1/10sec). Note you must change your cameras ISO to around 4000 to do this but at least on the D5600 the pictures are not too grainy at this setting. The other cool thing about a fast lense like this is you can take nice pictures of birds that freezes there wings (and other motion in flight) as you can still get good exposures during the day at 1/1000sec without a speed light. Many other unique things can be done with a fast lense like this.On the D5X00 series cameras this 50mm ... MoreFor those not too familar with photography principles. Is a bit big but not very heavy for such a wide aperature.Overall great lens to accompany the slow wide to moderate tele zoom lense that likely came with your camera.
It has its flaws - it's super plastic-y and feels like a toy, the focus motor sounds like an RC car, and maybe it isn't as sharp as the Canon 50mm f/1.8 it copies. But it's also super cheap. I'm a hobbyist who mainly shoots street and landscape (on a crop sensor camera), but when I'm having fun with friends, this delivers portraits that look perfectly fine on social media. The bokeh looks very good. It's also just fun to work with the limitations of this lens. The lack of image stabilization has also been a challenge since I'm spoiled by IS in all my other lenses.Ultimately, this is a toy and is priced as one. If you need quality and reliability, buy the Canon. If you want fun on the cheap, or if you want to wean yourself off electronic assists, this lens delivers. As a a side note, the aperture iris gets stuck at f/1.8 when the temperature drops below freezing. I can safely say my copy does not work at 14 F/-10 C, but I have no idea where issues actually begin. This isn't my only lens affected by the recent cold spell in NYC though, and the others are more expensive so no penalty from me.
This was the first prime lens I bought. Kit lens's were really letting me down. I'm using it on a Nikon D5600 crop sensor camera. Some reviews complain about the focus noise. It's not that bad. If you ever owned a Canon power shot you know what true noise is all about. This is very quiet compared to the power shot series. Build quality seems to be very good. Metal mount and barrel. If the internals are plastic that's good. Plastics are far more thermodynamically stable. Lens coating could be a touch better but then the price would increase substantially. F1.8 is sharp, blending off to soft out of focus backgrounds. This is my go to lens for just about everything. Bang for the buck, you just can't beat it. The lens handles low light in an excellent fashion. I like ... MoreThis was the first prime lens I bought. Kit lens's were really letting me down. I'm using it on a Nikon D5600 crop sensor camera. The prices are so reasonable. B&H service is great so it's a winning combination.
Concerning durability, only time will tell. Some say is at least as sturdy than "Canon 50mm f1.8" - but of course Canon is Canon regarding most other lenses, just fabulous factory. Otherwise, very good "bang for the buck" (god I hate these cliches). Summer will show it's "true colours" of it, spring seems just fine. Bokeh is possible to good extent because of the 7 blades ("lammels", like we say here in Finland also) in this objective - Canon's comparable has 5, more is better. Autofocus seems surprisingly accurate, but there's no "perfect" one, so that's not a problem. Also manual focus to switch for, but it's not full-time like in some Canon's models - even in the past already back in 90's. One cannot really go "wrong" with this lens as it is ALSO very affordable. ... MoreConcerning durability, only time will tell. Oh, and it's relatively fast lens being f1.8 wide open fitting rather well for twilight situations also and because of "bokeh" it might work pretty well for portrait-photos as well.
Bang for buck, there is no better large aperture 50mm lens. This was LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE of the basic *brand name of my camera* version. Is it half as good? Much better than just half. Do the more expensive 50mm lenses make sharper images? Yes, if you're a pixel peeper. But good luck picking the difference between the two once the images are uploaded somewhere, without downloading the source image and going right in there looking for faults. And if you do that you'll find the $1500 lenses aren't perfect either. And I don't feel as worried about this getting knocked around in my camera bag so it gets used more.
