This is my second Ranger. I love the massiveness of it, big digit and easy readable LCD. Casio's smartphone application G-Shock Connect is quite buggy but the watch on it's own is old school self sustainable: water and shock resistant, solar charging(you have a choice of wireless charging), GPS tracking, GPS and BT time adjustment and sapphire glass. You get the benefits of Casio's V3 sensor for pressure, temperature and compass. On top of all the basic functions it offers the tide graph(sadly it needs the phone for that, I don't know why but sunrise/sunset times doesn't) and sunrise and sunset times. There is no hourly beep and the stopwatch and timer only show hours, minutes and seconds. Also the alarm is quite low on sound volume. All in all, it's a heavy duty ... MoreThis is my second Ranger. I have 5 G Shock watches. This includes the old Frogman and the new analog one, and the old Rangeman (green with negative display) and this new one. I had concerns about the size of the new Rangeman, but it is the most comfortable of all 5 that I have, so it is the one I wear the most. Fantastic watch, and the navigation system works perfectly. I used it on a route I was already familiar with, and it was spot on. It works like the old “pluggers” we used back in the 90s, so I had a basic understanding on how to use it. Man, if I had such a watch in the 80s and 90s in The Republic of Panama!! Very durable, useful, and comfortable. It is large, but it is not heavy. Highly recommend. From what I hear, Casio has discontinued it, so it will be a collectors item ... MoreI have 5 G Shock watches. Absolutely beautiful watch feels great on the wrist. Very crisp display and easy to navigate all the features. Not heavy on the wrist but appropriate weight for the size. It is a beast of a watch but the design gives it a great look on the wrist. The couple complaints I've read have been stop watch portion only reads full seconds so not meant for the track timing 40's, the weight of the watch itself but it's not "heavy" and these people probably have only wore a Armitron, and last complaint of no hourly charm which is not a big deal considering all this watch does do.

I bought this primarily as a watch for backcountry elk hunting trips. I've used the Garmin Fenix 3 and then 5x over the last couple years. While they accomplished what I had hoped the battery life wasn't great. I usually ended up just using the track back feature and bringing an external battery to charge in camp at night.I recently took a trip from Tortola BVI to Dominican Republic on a 38ft boat, about a 27 hour trip. I charged the Rangeman the night before I left, had it on for the three flights down there, the day of prep, and then started tracking just after we left. It tracked for 24 hours straight and still showed a full battery. I kept it on for a couple more days in DR and a few more when I got back home and it still wasn't dead.As a true backcountry ... MoreI bought this primarily as a watch for backcountry elk hunting trips. The only downsize for me is the size and looks. A lot of people I know where the 5x on a daily basis. Unlike the Garmin this would look pretty out of place with business attire on. Best solution is to keep them both but when I'm out in the woods or on the water I will be wearing the Casio.Attaching a screen shot from the Gshock app of our route.
Just received the watch yesterday and first impressions were DAMN its a big watch, which I like, it's what attracted me to it in the first place. Now, after exactly 24 hours of wear I'm noticing that it hasn't fully charged yet. The charging disk / cradle isn't working hell I even pulled out the big guns, my 800,000 LUX flashlight and that wouldn't fully charge it. I think I'll need to return it for a replacement and hopefully get one that'll fully charge. Other than that (And that's a big one, eventually) I absolutely love it and plan on getting another one.
Casio got the sensor selections, bluetooth availability, watch features correct but missed the mark on feature consistency and reliability. I like the features and compact aspect of the watch. I can manage the menu system and I think it is a good compromise given the power longevity of the watch(I don't need the 'smartwatch' features). When testing in the outdoors I found that I could get about 70% of the functionality to work as expected. And the BT connectivity is spotty regardless of locale. Often navigation failed to detect location or activity. I got a nice activity summary for 2 out of 3 hikes but limited to the phone to review them. Casio, PC's have bluetooth capability and more resources than a phone. Watch app installed on phone is a complete fail if it ... MoreCasio got the sensor selections, bluetooth availability, watch features correct but missed the mark on feature consistency and reliability. And the last update was just to include a new watch model?) I think the price point was wrong for what was delivered, unless you want a 'cool' watch or portability save your cash.
I'll make my review of the G Shock Rangeman super short. It's phenomenal. 100% would recommend it. Bigger watch, for bigger people. I try to wear it every day and the only time I notice it is when it's not there and I feel so naked without it.I bought it after my 2nd friend got lost in the wilderness and died. I figure if it could happen to them, then it could happen to any one of us. Protect yourself. Protect your family. Get a standalone GPS because both of my friends were found deceased with their useless cell phones.
This watch has a ton of functionality. It is HUGE and the price is high but the watch itself and the connected app provide plenty of useful features. I would give it 5 stars but previous watches offering solar charging and GPS have used GPS to automatically update the time on a daily basis. This GPS is solely for receiving a signal to identify and mark your location. Time calibration uses a communication between the connected smartphone to update the watch. This is not a huge deal as Casios are typically highly reliable time keepers. While I spent many years in the back country in my youth with little more than a topographic map and a compass, I am a city dweller with rare opportunities to get lost and then find myself. I feel a small amount of guilt about paying so ... MoreThis watch has a ton of functionality. Great watch, very chunky and heavy (2x the weight of my next biggest watch). Will only suit people with a medium - large wrist. 10/10 build quality from Casio in Japan. Looks even better in person than in pictures. Navigation is a bit fiddly to get started but works very well once you figure it out and calibrate the compass etc Quite expensive for the features, a garmin instinct would do the job for half the price, but that's not what you're buying a rangemaster for is it. Would buy again
Casio Rangeman GPR B1000 is the one with the ultimate dual power, solar and wireless charging. It is the most legible blacked out LCD screen I have ever seen. It is extremely durable and a well balanced weight distribution that I have ever felt from a G-SHOCK. What an amazing timepiece! I’ve been searching for years for the limited green strap version, and I finally was able to get it last month. I’ve put it through real world tests. It handles it with ease. It knocked off my favorite GWG-1000 from my wrist as my daily driver, and I’ve been wearing it ever since. The engineering and design is great. The ceramic back is a first for a G-SHOCK. It feels so good against the skin. Normally, a stainless steel backplate gets sweaty, dirty or cold against the skin. It feels so good against the skin. Normally, a stainless steel backplate gets sweaty, dirty or cold against the skin. In addition, the ceramic plate allows for easier satellite signal penetration for the navigation system. It is the most comfortable watch ever on my wrist. Carbon fiber strap is well constructed along with the stainless steel buckle and keeper. The G-SHOCK Connected app is another way to configure the watch settings, through using Bluetooth. Overall, I love this watch! So glad to have it. Get it while you can. It has now been discontinued.
