Oh joy, the WD BLACK SN850 1TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 4 x4 Officially Licensed for PS5 with Heatsink - it's like Christmas came early for all you tech nerds out there. I mean, who wouldn't want to spend an arm and a leg on a piece of metal with some chips on it?Let's start with the fact that it's "officially licensed" for PS5. Wow, how official. Because we all know that the PS5 is such a picky little thing and will only work with "officially licensed" products. I mean, who needs a warranty anyway, am I right? And let's talk about that heatsink - it's like the cherry on top of this overpriced sundae. Because nothing says "I have too much money to spend" like spending even more money on a piece of metal to keep your other piece of metal from overheating. But let's ... I'm having the same issue as others. Bought the 2TB version but wasn't able to install it right away (we were moving) and the return window closed. Once I got around to installing it, that's where things went off the rails. The PS5 figured out it was there and would start to format it, get to about 13%, think about things for a while, then decide it was done and didn't actually want to format the disk. In order to then use my PS5 it gives me the option to remove the drive, remove the drive, or just to remove the drive. I removed the drive. I tried to troubleshoot, I reseated it and tried again with the same outcome. Pretty disappointed that I now have an m.2 drive that is specifically marketed for the PS5 to use as a very small and ineffective paperweight instead of the couple hundred dollars I spent on it. I mean it is pretty, but I'd rather have the couple hundred dollars if I'm being honest. If you google this issue, it turns out that this is a widespread issue with these WD drives and the solution is always to go buy a different brand.

The officially license WD Black for the PS5 really enhances my gaming experience and installing it was a complete BREEZE. Why get this? Well, I got tired of deleting games just so I could download my newest ones, so I was looking for a way to double my storage, well, look no further. This tiny, yet powerful addition to my PS5 not only does the job in doubling my storage, but once installed, the PS5 allows me to choose default installing between the stock SSD or the WD Black. A nice little option. With its dominant performance in PCMark 10’s benchmarks, this SSD is equipped with a slim form factor, complete with a Heatsink, a must for the PS5, makes it my go-to. Max Read is 7,000 MBPS & Write is 5,300 MBPS. It successfully copied my full Call of Duty game from stock SSD to its own SSD in minutes. Bottom line: This is a must have for any PS5 gamer looking to add more storage for their gaming at decent price. It’s super easy to install (you can find tons of videos on YouTube to help) and I highly recommend it to all my gamer friends.

honestly worth every penny, I’d manage to grab my self a ps5 in November 2022 and loved the system only downside was the storage. Was only able to have a few game titles only had about 33gb left.Looked up to buy a storage pack like I did with my Xbox but wanted it fast and able to run games of on the drive it’s self. A YouTuber recommended me this because it’s already heatsink built with official play station license didn’t have to worry about any device to work properly. Now that I had extra storage I’m able to download more game titles from the shop and moving/copy is really super fast it only took me 5/6mins to move 380gb of games from internal to external. On Xbox it only takes 10/15mins to move one game that’s 50gb.Love this product the device was simple ... I'm sure if you're looking at this you've come to the point where you are deciding which games. apps and data to move and/or delete. I understand…After research (too much on my part), I bought this SPECIFICALLY for the space increase AND the fact that you can play games DIRECTLY off this SSD WITHOUT LAG!The install was super easy, follow the step by step directions (a video will also walk you through) and within 5-10 (after rebooting and the drive updating/formatting) you are able to choose how you want items stored. For instance, if you want all new games and downloads sorted to this SSD.After you complete the install and move games/apps/data to your new SSD….you will laugh at the OBSCENE amount of space you have now to use. This is a PS officially licensed internal storage. If you’re like me, you probably ran out of the 660~ GB on the internal storage for the PS5, so like me youve might have bought a WD Black external storage (not this) thinking that you would be okay, only to find out some important details as that led to my purchase: (1) You cannot play PS5 games from an external drive. (2) You can store PS5 games to an external drive but then you’d have to copy them over to the console storage from the external drive to play them [which is probably faster than deleting and redownloading but who really has time fot that?]. (3) You can store and play PS4 games on an external drive for the PS5 but 660~ GB for PS5 games isn’t enough with some of the larger games out there….. which ... Got this for $280 (2 TB) because its officially licensed and playstation has a video on their site showing how to install it (just need a screwdriver) and a couple minutes of your time. Once the PS5 was powered back on, the SSD was formatted and then I was able to change the download location for PS5 games to the SSD. I really wish I didn’t have to do this at all (build it with more interal storage to begin with playstation!) but if you need storage for PS5 games, I’m definitely happy with this choice! Had no issues with formatting, copying PS5 games to it or playing PS5 games from it.
The 2TB NVME SSD works great but I will caveat with the only issue I experienced was the first one I bought was defective and kept crashing my PS5. I did find numerous articles/YouTube videos of people experiencing similar PS5 crashes after installing this and other NVMEs. That leads me to believe that it's not a PS5 problem and more of a hardware defect in manufacturing. So if you install this product and you start to experience PS5 power issues, run don't walk back to Best Buy and request an exchange. The second one I obtained worked great and I've been very happy with the significant storage boost. I also picked it up on sale which seems to be more common these days. Do not buy these at full price.
Filled my internal storage on my PS5, so I spent time researching external HDs to for more space. After weeks of reading reviews, I went to my local BB to buy an external. An employee who helped me asked why I was getting an external and not an internal….. I said I didn’t want to open my console and deal with installation. He chuckled and said it couldn’t be any easier to install, and far more convenient than having external. So I took his advise on a whim and got the PS5 licensed WD black 1tb internal ssd drive. Installed it that same day in a matter of minutes and all has been perfect since. It actually gave me 1tb worth of storage which was nice to see as well. Simple formatting, and away you go. Would definitely recommend going internal for ps5 users after this ... MoreFilled my internal storage on my PS5, so I spent time researching external HDs to for more space. I'm a little early with this review but I'll set a reminder to come back and add to it as time progresses. As of today, I've had my new WD Black SN850 2TB internal PCIe drive in my Playstation 5 for over 24 hours now and I've been running it hard.Quick data that I thought might be useful:I moved all of my PS5 games to the new WD Black. I could move about 100gb of data in less than 10 minutes. Less than 5 more than likely. I moved Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Remake, Red Dead Redemption, and one more game and it took about 30 minutes for all of that to move. Granted, I left the room and messed around for a little bit so it could've been faster. The games run as fast as if they were in the console directly and respond fast too.
