Comfortable and great-looking, but quality is...

I love the look and fit of the AT mid, but they have some issues with quality. I'm on my second pair of this one (have had other 511s over the years). My first pair only lasted 6 months with pretty light use. I put some miles on them, but don't push them hard. I'm an IT guy and don't even do that much weekend warrior'ing for reference. I couldn't see this shoe making it a month in a duty position. They started squeaking/groaning within a couple months. Then the plastic mid-sole broke straight across at the ball of the right foot a few months later, so I had the squeak/groan and a loud CLICK! with every other step. I had to stop wearing them but got another pair because I do like the look and fit. There is zero resistance to water and very little for cold. Step in the smallest puddle or it rains? Wet feet. Slightest chilly breeze? Cold toes.Tread pattern: Wears pretty well, but LOVES to pick up mud, dogsh*t, chickensh*t, whatever, and track it back inside where it leaves a little bit behind with each step like a path of mud/sh*tcrumbs.

Comfortable every day and dog walking shoes

After my husband bought a pair of these and kept saying how comfortable they were, I decided to buy myself a pair. These have been the best shoes I have found so far that I can wear all day and my feet and back are not killing me from standing/walking on hard surfaces. I love the traction on the bottom, so I don't fear slipping as much (unless it's ice). I purchased these boots in April of 2023, and by August the exterior material was already worn thin and holes formed near my little toes on each boot. I don't wear these daily, nor am I putting them under extreme duress. In fact, I barely leave the house in them, and only use them for light outdoor activities or work around the house, as I thought they'd be stronger and more durable than your typical tennis shoes.Like I said, very comfortable boot that I want to love and recommend, but the durability is worse than a cheap $10 pair of Chinese Wal-Mart knock-offs. Definitely not worth the $75 I paid--on sale at that!

Disappointed 😔
15 October 2023

I got this A/T Mid October 2020 but I can't use it because of pandemic. We are forced to use other boot instead (working in EMS). 2021 when I finally able to use it. The comfort was really good, it was like a running shoe and the grip on wet/ slippery surfaces was good. Not until after a year. The hook for shoe lace was broken. The rubber strips on the mesh part is falling apart. But the worst is the sole. It is separating from the shoe and have cracks. I tried to bring it on the local store but they are telling me that it's out of warranty instead bring it to the shoe repair shop. Shoe repair shop won't accept it also because the told me that the rubber/sole is already EXPIRED. I'm very disappointed, I thought 5.11 brand has a good quality.

I work on a country club in golf maintenance and I’m always looking for a shoe/boot I can stand on for 14hrs a day and walk 10+ miles a day in hot/cold/dry/wet conditions. The insole of these shoes are unmatched. Very light and very comfortable on the footbed. I have both the mesh version and waterproof version of this boot and after about 60days I got a tear on a seam in the toe box area. They are due for a new treatment of the exterior water repellent. The treat holds up extremely well. And something that was more worthy is the seam of the middle of the waterproof barrier dug into my heal really bad but even with that I’ve never had a more comfortable boot. I’d buy them again or if 5.11 wanted me to try these again and see if I can get more life that’d be cool. The fit is also different between WP and non WP models if this boot.

Great Boot For My Lifestyle

That being said I can confidently say I would have no issue wearing these 5 days a week. The mesh body of the boots help with ventilation mitigating heat during hot days while keeping the overall weight of the boots down. The rubber toe cap and heel paneling is a nice addition offering grip and abrasion resistence. Boot bumpers as I like to call them. The padded colar offers the appropriate amount of comfort to the user's ankles. Without looking like a mid boot from our jr. high and high school days of the 80s and 90s. I know you remember those things. Lol!The only con that I can recall as I write this review is.....you guessed it....rain/water. Your feet will get wet thanks to the mesh body. But let's be serious. Are you gonna wear these when it's raining? Doubtful. As for longevity, it's hard for me to say because I do rotate my footwear regularly. Time will tell.In closing these are my favorite off duty mid boots. Between this and my 5.11 Jungle 2.0 Boots, I usually pick these before I head out the door. For the outdoor/indoor shooting range, working on the house, errands around town and shopping during the dry months of the year, these are a great buy and definitely worth the price when this review was written. $70.

Not the best quality
6 August 2024

I bought these 6/13/2024 and started wearing them immediately. I been wearing them now for armed security work and I found a huge failing point in the boot. After wearing for only 30 days I heard a really weird noise while walking indoors. I thought I had something stuck to bottom of boot but I was wrong. So the material around ankle level basically squeaks or makes cracking noise every step you take. And when you are patrolling a quiet administration building you start to notice materials used are the problem. Wouldn't purchase again. As far as comfort they can defined be better as well. They look good and breath well

So Conflicted

These are quite possibly the most comfortable mid boot I've worn with amazing traction even on wet surfaces. Great little thing is after coming in from wet surfaces, the grip on smooth, dry floors is superb and there is zero squeaking on any surface. The material of the soles absorbs impacts like a champ; jumping down from heights of 4+' are softer. I work in a high-stress environment with about 10-15 miles walked per week and heat up to 106; these breathe well and don't smell despite all of the sweating and work. All-around great boot. Now for the con: durability. I have run these boots for about 5 months at this point. For this price I'd expect them to last at least a year. There is significant break-down of the backing inside of the right boot. The lugs are relatively deep, but there is significant wear of the outer portion of each heel. At this rate, these boots will have a lifespan of 6-7 months. I don't want to have to spend $300 on this boot per year so I'll likely end up moving on one this pair dies.

Wear out fast
10 March 2024

I purchased these shoes in October from a local store, specifically for overseas training. I didn't start wearing them until my arrival in December, and despite only using them for 40 days, they prematurely showed signs of extensive wear, resembling a year's worth of use. The trimming began to peel apart significantly. The most challenging environment they encountered was a week spent on compacted gravel at a range. While their comfort level was exceptional, the durability fell short of my expectations based on the investment I made. I anticipated that they would withstand wear and tear for much longer

10 December 2023

I've worn them for a few months and already falling apart with light use. Part of the soles have literally shredded and the mesh has started to fray. I've owned 5.11 boots for 8-9 years and these are not up to par with quality of other products. The lacing system is annoying at best but once you put them on for the day they stay put. Getting them on and off is a pain with how freely or not freely the laces work with the webbing.Great ankle support but the bottom insole has some more comfort to be desired.
