I purchased this item and had a rocky start with installation. Problems with it not being detected. After that It worked like a charm. Great wifi signals, and superb wired speeds. I was very pleased. Up until after 15 days. It started to not work as good. The connection was super spotty. What was odd was the download was working just fine but the upload wasn't even close to what it used to be. This is the first Netgear product I have ever given 1 star to. There is a firmware bug that shows IPv6 LAN traffic as DoS attack, Teardrop, Ping of Death. You can find many instances of this in Netgear forums. You may or may not experience the same thing based on your IPv6 LAN address which is becoming more popular especially on phones and tablets. I Chatted for an hour with Netgear support. They finally said replace it with a Modem and separate router to avoid the firmware issue. Even the Netgear forum suggestions only temporarily worked. I had to move the IPv6 devices to an old IPv4 only extender. Once moved them the crashes stopped. It was Impossible to work from home for more than an hour at a time without a failure. But then because of Netgears 3 antennas with this model we could only get roughly 2/3's of our internet provider's speed. We pay for 500 down 50 up and could only get 275-300 with this cable modem router. Sometimes just like 250 down. After doing some research it's because of them using 3 antennas instead of 2 and each can only handle so much speed.. so you in the end need devices that use 3 antennas. Almost no current modern day devices use 3 antennas. So the manufacturer's argument is that 3 antennas provide great er connectivity for more devices.. but not everyone has 7 kids with the need for that kind of connectivity. Bought this modem router 11 months ago thinking it would be a better alternative than renting one through my ISP. Couldn't have been more wrong. Issues every few months causing me to have to factory reset it three or four times already this past year. Now it's only putting out 1 - 4 Mbps as confirmed by a couple different technicians from my ISP (the cable is putting out 1200 - 1300 Mbps of potential speed, but the modem router is consistently only delivering 1 - 4 Mbps). I called Netgear, but they said the 90-day warranty has ended already, and unless I pay an additional $140 for an extended warranty, there's nothing they can do. Absolutely garbage "support" for a $200 paperweight. Old rotuer/access point died in a lightening storm. The Nighthawk had good reviews and purchased it as a replacement. Price was higher than other companies modem/access points. Ran into issues with the admin account and password. And with Xfinity. After Xfinity was fixed, had to call netgear support to get past connecting to the access point and getting prompted for an admin password. While my wife was on the phone, I kept trying different passwords combinations until I got though the screens. One screen required a special character for the password, another didn't and finally got past that and the security questions. The router is only 800MB, so if you want ot have a higher Internet speed, you need a different router. It's been working ok since then. I have had up to 470mbps at non peak times and consistent above 80mbps during peak times for my area.The WiFi signal is strong enough for my 2 story house with the modem/router on the first floor near an exterior wall.I had an issue with spectrum activation and the assured they had activated the modem correctly. Refered me to call Netgear support. The support team was great and was able to clearly go through multiple checks to ensure proper function of the modem. After completing all checks and verifying the modem was working correctly the technician asked if I could get Spectrum to attempt to reactivate my line.
