I had been looking for a compact scale to use primarily for pour over brewing. The Lunar fit the bill perfectly - I considered the Pearl but it has too big a footprint for me. While this scale is primarily aimed at espresso brewing, it works great for pour over. You get what you pay for with Acaia - great build quality, super accurate and great features. Cafune‘s level of service is great and I highly recommend them for you coffee needs!

Very high-tech and very useful, but by no means necessary. Various modes cover espresso and pour-over scenarios indicating elapsed time, weight, and flow rate. Coming from a typical kitchen scale, there is a learning curve. There are SIX different modes, and I'd recommend skimming the manual to learn how to disable the modes that you won't need, as it can be cumbersome to cycle through all of the modes to land on the one you want to use. I wish the buttons were actual tactile buttons as the touch-sensitive buttons don't always provide ample feedback, but I understand the current design makes the scale more waterproof. For example, if you are pulling an espresso shot with preinfusion, you probably don't need flow rate, but you might like the auto-timer feature to ... MoreVery high-tech and very useful, but by no means necessary. I think this can add another layer of enjoyment when you are dialing in your shots/pours. I didn't realize I'd like this aspect of the scale the most.Pros:- ideal modes for basic weighing, espresso workflow, and pour-overs- Bluetooth capability and app integrations to provide fun ways at looking your brew methods- small, thin, rechargeable and long battery lifeCons:- buttons can be hard to press- lots of modes can make it confusing to navigate- you expect scales to be really simple and intuitive, this one is not, but provides benefit when you learn it- expensive

I am quite pleased with the speed, precision, and size of the Lunar - it's honestly much smaller than you can even think of unless you've seen it in person. I bought this to replace a Hario scale which I have used for 4 years, and only replaced because it's rather large for the space under the grouphead on my new espresso machine, and I wanted to be able to time shots. I would say if you really want to be able to do it all, this scale is it; it's incredibly capable but I have been conflicted as to whether I liked it because of how many options and complexities there are. Once I turned off modes I wasn't using and got used to the fact that higher precision = higher potential to be disturbed by high pressure steam or movement and learned to be more cognizant around ... MoreI am quite pleased with the speed, precision, and size of the Lunar - it's honestly much smaller than you can even think of unless you've seen it in person. I would say it's definitely the best espresso scale, but the price point should give pause if you don't truly have a need for all the functionality and customizability - if you're not weighing every dose and then weighing and timing every shot, you might be well served by a simple pourover scale with 0.1g precision and a timer.

There's a reason why the Lunar scale is so popular. Is it cheap? No. But, it's well-built, sturdy, simple to use, aesthetically pleasing and feature-packed.I've used $15 Amazon scales and I'm never going back to non-Acaia scales. If you can afford it, get it, it will make your weighing experience much more enjoyable everytime you brew coffee.Plus, it comes with the 100g calibration weight (that the Pearl is missing).
The scale is pricey when you compare with other scale at the marker but you will get well built and good looking design. It packs with lot of function you may not need it. If you are enthusiastic on coffee, you may want this scale on your daily driver. The only downside is i feel like the scale is it too small for the pour over. I choose this one is because i can scale the bean. And also i finally i have one scale can put the scale with my latter mud under my tinny Giggia classic pro and i am happy about it.
This scales reputation proceeds itself and was everything I hoped it would be,I'm using a Strietman CT2 lever espresso machine which doesn't have much cup clearance. This was one of the few scales that fit my needs and exceeded expectations. The app is even better than I expected and I love being able to save flow profiles.
This scale is quite durable and very accurate and is a pleasure to use for espresso. I always know that I am getting accurate measurements so I can adjust my shots accordingly. It is very responsive. This scale is perfect for my Rancilio Silvia. It is slim enough that it can sit under a notneutral latte cup, as the space between the drip tray and the rancilio brew group/portafilter is quite limited. The feature set is great. There are several different settings that can be combined; Clive Coffee has a good video about this. Auto-start/stop timer for espresso shots is an easy tool for measuring shot timings, but of course you have to remember that water hits the coffee beans before it comes out of the portafilter, so you have to consider that in your shot time ... MoreThis scale is quite durable and very accurate and is a pleasure to use for espresso. Auto-start/stop timer for espresso shots is an easy tool for measuring shot timings, but of course you have to remember that water hits the coffee beans before it comes out of the portafilter, so you have to consider that in your shot time calculations. But there is another mode for timing this and especially for pre-infusion, as you can just start the timer manually. Auto-tare is a cool feature, but sometimes if I adjust the cup or take it off for a second I get frustrated when the weight disappears. Of course this is expected and not necessarily a flaw, but just to note. All the different features mean the scale is adaptable to your workflow. The shape symbols for each setting were confusing at first, especially when there are different combinations of symbols, but I have mostly gotten the hang of it now and I suppose you could always just read the instructions.
In the endless quest for the consistently perfect espresso one may criticise this scale as being slightly expenny…. But OMG, it is worth every cent! Fast and intuitive to use it compliments a single dose grinder and high quality machine to achieve a consistent recipe that is enhanced further through the Acaia Brewguide app and new Orbit app. Firmware is easily updated through the Acaia updater app.
I've owned a pearl model S for a couple years for pour over and I loved it. When I got into Espresso I eyed one of these up but couldn't justify the big price tag at first. I ended up getting a great deal on a Hiroia Jimmy and used it for 6 months before I ran into problems with it. The Jimmy was good but this was a massive improvement over it in every way. I absolutely love this scale and cannot imagine my espresso setup without it. If you're even considering pulling the trigger, just do it!
This little scale packs loads of functions. Extremely useful modes include timer, auto start timer with espresso flow, auto taring, auto start timer with espresso flow, auto start timer with auto taring. Designed specifically for optimum espresso brewing. Small made with aluminum body so that it can fit right on the drip tray. Water resistant design so no need to worry about water damage. Extremely sensitive measurements, so I’d recommend using the auto modes for electric espresso machines. For manual espresso press like the Flair, don’t use the auto modes.
