German design but zones turn on by themselves!

AEG IAE84851FB induction cooktop review - Nov 2021 - cost just over 4k dollarsThis is the 2nd IAG induction cooktop we purchased in 6 years. The previous one (also costing around 4k dollars) had a bevelled edge (looked nice) but didn't sit flush on stonetop because it was designed to look as if it was floating just above the bench. Nice idea but obviously not designed to be practical. It required constant cleaning with a toothbrush around all 4 edges to remove crumbs and general gunk that accumulates in a working kitchen, plus if you stand a few paces away, you can see the dirt sitting below the floating edges.A few years later a salt shaker tipped over close to the edge and cracked the glass. We decided to replace it with this another AEG- the subject of this ... MoreAEG IAE84851FB induction cooktop review - Nov 2021 - cost just over 4k dollarsThis is the 2nd IAG induction cooktop we purchased in 6 years. We decided to replace it with this another AEG- the subject of this review. The new AEG was a much better designed stovetop as this one has a neat and functional flat s/steel frame all around the edges. AEG still does not feel it necessary to provide even minimal guides to show that your pot is centred on the heat source correctly.Regardless the new stovetop has 2 main zones (stretching from the center to the right of the stovetop) and a third adjustable sized zone along the left 30% of the stovetop. All zones allow for a power setting, but overall power to the entire stovetop is limited by whether you are using other zones and how much power they are already draining.Similar to another (6 month old) review here, we also were very surprised to notice that an empty pot sitting on the left (adjustable zone) while we were cooking on a right hand zone had mysteriously turned itself on .... without warning and NO indication of the zone being on was showing on the control panel. According to the controls only the 1 zone I was actually using was on - which not only made it impossible to know the left zone but this made it equally impossible to turn off the unwanted zone! This burnt and stained the base of our pot and left a large stain on the adjustable zone.Considering the considerable cost and German design and manufacture of these stovetops, we expected better.
