If you can adjust the strings to feel comfortable though and your primary concern for a shoe is cushion these are very cushioned and comfortable in that sense!

The half size bigger is perfect, and still fits perfectly on the heel. I have dreadful feet with metatarsalgia and, as with the trainers, I wear my 3/4-length orthotics on top of the Altra insole. Bliss! With these, I can go for a walk without being in pain. Altra, please don't ever stop making these, and keep the design the same. Please could you make them in a quiet dark brown? [P.S. On other hikes, I've stepped in water that would have left my feet sopping wet in my Lone Peaks, but though the water came up over the laces, my feet stayed dry.I have no problems with the tight ankle cleats and prefer them that way. Until I read a couple reviews complaining the back pull loop might catch on them, it never crossed my mind that could happen (would take some serious contortions!) and has not been a problem so far.If I must complain about something, I'd agree that Altra needs to be more generous with the laces. As with earlier model Lone Peak hikers, they are simply too short and I do have to wrangle to double-tie them, which I consider a must in any hiking footwear. This is an easy fix for Altra.All in all, I've worn them lots, love the boots and have no problem recommending them. I consider these boots winners.

Was stoked to finally have dry feet! But was very dissappointed.Pros: waterproof goretext. Finally. Great traction.Cons: ankle is too small; there is a rub on the ankle; the cushion is over the top and NOT helpful for hiking over varying terrain, keep it moderate otherwise you can't tell where your feet are in relation to the ground. Also the back tab just seems to be there to catch your other foot by the metal eyelets. The metal eyelets themselves are so tight it's difficult to get the shoes laced and unlaced. There is also a problem with the way the laces run - there's a large area over the top of the foot with no eyelets leaving a gap in security for your foot. No such luck =( The second pair has the same problem and then some.The area of intersection where the side of the gusseted tongue is sewn into the heel cuff is lumpy and presses hard into the ankle when tied. Not like you feel it a little, but like OW, that hurts, and it left an indention in my skin - even with a sock. After three days on the Colorado Trail, I hard to start adding mole skin to the sore spots, which I've never done with any other shoe that I've hiked, run, or raced in. I hike long hikes frequently, up to 15 miles at a shot. I love the grippiness of this boot sole. In summer we have hard, orange clay covered with small pebbles, that makes it feel like hiking on ball bearings. These boots perform well on this surface. But, these boots just aren't comfortable. They especially bind at the ankle, and the laces are too short to allow for an insert or orthotic. I will buy them again, because I like remaining upright while hiking, but dang, I wish you could make them more comfortable. And, could you please make them in a darker, earth-colored hue? The tan looks awful after a couple of hikes, and they don't clean well.

When I wear lower cut sneakers for hiking sometimes on rainy days mud gets in my shoes, so the higher cut of these is great. The shoes have great cushioning and are shaped to fit your feet, so they were great for my plantar fasciitis, so I would say a benefit to owning these shoes is that I can go hiking for hours and my heel doesn't hurt, which I have not found with traditional hiking boots. Usually, no matter how supportive the boots are, my heel pain still flares up, but I didn't experience that with these shoes. The only thing I didn't love about wearing these shoes is there is sort of a "nub" near where the tongue meets the shoe that rubs on my ankle bones and that was not too comfortable. I think if the manufacturer made the shoe so they weren't so rigid in that area they would be perfect. For this reason alone, I don't think I would purchase this product. I might recommend this product to my friends and family if the retail price wasn't so high. I couldn't recommend they buy them for that price with the possibility of the design flaw I mentioned above bothering their feet as much as they did mine. I think I would tell anyone looking to buy these shoes that they are great shoes, but definitely try them on in a store and walk around a bit to make sure the rigid area near the tongue doesn't bother their ankles.
