Excellent to read in the dark without needing another light. Not used in sunlight yet. The only down-side, which is alas for most of today's Technology, is that it does not come with written instructions. I find the built-in instructions hard to locate as tapping the screen brings up lots of different scenarios. Just reading a book is fine but I would like to be more knowledgeable about all the options. Being 'Old School' I find it more useful to have instructions on paper to which I can refer without leaving the page I am viewing.

Great little device
13 February 2022

I love the Kindle. It's lightweight. The matt screen is much better than using a tablet. With this generation the screen can be viewed with white writing on a black background, which I find much better for reading at night. Allegedly, it will even survive a dip in the bath but I'd rather not put that to the test!I do find it much easier to search for a book and download a sample directly from Amazon, rather than using the Store facility on the device but maybe that's just personal preference. This is my second Kindle Paperwhite as my original is now cracked and runs really slowly. I do find it rather frustrating that Kindle software is updated and makes them run slower and slower, as surely downloading text for a book could just run on the same software forever?

Kindle is excellent
18 February 2023

As a person who is dyslexic this kindle helps me to read with comfort. Because of the large letter on the screen and only having bite size one page at a time, rather than a huge page with hundreds of words in a book, I am able to read so much more without feel intimidated. The ability to change the colour screen is also fantastic. I think Kindle should be used in schools to help slow readers or people with any learning difficulties it's an amazing aid. It is so light and small to carry around, easy to get loads of books onto, it's a game changer for me.

NOT HAPPY!
8 January 2023

I'm very disappointed with my new Kindle Paperwhite 11th Gen - the screen isn't paper white, it's a pale orange colour. Here's a photo of my two Kindle Paperwhites. On the left my older device, registered in 2015; on the right my new one registered December 2022. There is no warming set on the new one in this photo, and it's on the latest software version. I read lots of these reviews before I bought, which suggested the screen was much better than previous versions. Mine clearly isn't! I'd like to know if my Kindle is faulty, or is this the best I can expect? If so then I think it's being mis-sold, as the screen is NOT white.I would have hoped that an expensive newer Kindle would be an improvement on older versions, which it isn't. I spoke to helpful agent at Amazon & did troubleshooting, no improvement though. So they sent me a replacement in case mine is faulty.UPDATE: The replacement sent by Amazon is a reconditioned one, nobody said anything about that!! So I bought a full price Kindle, but got a 2nd hand one to replace it!!! Luckily I haven't opened it so it'll be going back to Amazon & I'll be talking to John Lewis. NOT HAPPY!!

Replacement for an Older Model
24 January 2023

This was purchased as a replacement for an aging previous model, which incidentally was still working but there were concerns about future support. It has a different feel to the older model being much lighter and without a keyboard. It is lightweight. It has good back lighting. No separate charger, just needs plugging into a USB socket. Will also charge via a computer. If buying for an older person it might take a bit of getting used to but if they are familiar with using a Smartphone or tablet they soon get used to it. Easy to download new books to the device.

Replacement for my old Kindle
20 October 2023

I bought this as a replacement for my really old kindle that died on me during my holiday. I previously had the very basic model for years and years, it was so old that it didn't even have the background illumination and I debated with myself whether I should upgrade to paperwhite as I was perfectly happy with my old basic kindle but I am glad I did! I am enjoying the slightly bigger screen and sleeker and easier to use (although the improvement could be attributed to the fact that it is newer). One of these cases when I didn't know I needed it until I got it! And I am sure there are more functionalities I just haven't discovered yet.

Review of AMAZON Kindle Paperwhite 6.8" eReader - 16 GB, Black
17 October 2023

Excellent product. Built well and of perfect dimensions. The warm light is a great feature that I always use. The screen reads like well-lit paper and the voice reader feature works brilliantly for when I’d prefer to rest my eyes and listen to a book. Really gives a ‘book feeling’ without any bulk. Battery life is great. Much handier and more economical than paper books. Easily bring your library anywhere

The new Kindle Paperwhite has a bigger screen and better battery life. Meaning it is going to be great for travelling, or binge reading. No carrying a pile of books on holiday. In my opinion not worth upgrading to this, unless your kindle is a really old version. The older Paperwhite is almost as good. Not sure I need waterproofing but it is an added bonus. The option to have collections makes it easy to find an item easily even if there are 400 books!I have small hands and have no trouble holding the Kindle but, it might not be suitable for a child. For anyone who struggles to read books with normal print size it is a must, the font can be made bigger and the backlight makes the print stand out. Only shame is they don't make a 10" version for visually impaired, only option being Scribe, with note taking ability, which is expensive when only an e reader is needed! The text size adjusts enough but ten words at a time on a screen is hard work!Overall, this is great for someone running out of bookshelf space, also if partner has a Kindle you can both read a book at the same time without buying two copies!Very happy with my new purchase!Would wait for an "offer" before buying as I did. John Lewis 2 year guarantee made where to buy it an easy choice!
