Instead I saw massive day to day speed upgrades and aside from a minor issue getting my ram to run its XMP profiles at stock voltage (which was either my mobo being cranky or the sticks themselves being subpar) the new system just worked flawlessly. It’s been almost two weeks now and I’m exclusively using the system for gaming. I can’t say I’ve experienced any strange hiccups or issues yet that I can directly attribute to the processor (on any new complete build you’re bound to have some quirks arise). Everything just works as I expect it to. The processor itself had broken a mental barrier for me, and does exactly what it claims it will on the box. Under a Kraken X63 my peak gaming temps on the chip were 63* Celsius... PEAK... with most gaming settling into the high 50s. That’s with PBO enabled, and after several hours so a fully saturated cooling loop. All cores have hit their advertised peak boost, and the most power I’ve seen the chip draw was around 83 watts. That’s a very cool and efficient chip, a sign of how much further AMD is ahead of Intel on the die processes. 7nm chips mean less power and more performance in the same package, and I see that born out in this chip. I can highly recommend the 5600x for all but the most extreme gamers. Paired with a 3080@ 2070mhz, no bottleneck!

So I did upgrade to a larger and more efficient cooler and my idle temps are below 40C, and jump between 50C and 60C under heavy load. My previous setup was water cooled but it is a pain to setup and maintain so for now I'm just keeping it simple with air cooling. I would have spent a bit more and purchased a processor with a higher core count but I have heard that AMD will be coming out with a new processor series with the AM5 socket, so I didn't want to invest too highly on this AM4 processor. This processor was my middle ground and so far I am very happy with it!

I changed my settings to mid-high and am running at 350FPS still. And my computer in general has been running more smoothly on Win 11. Before I was having input lag issues, which are completely gone now. This has been one of the best single purchase upgrades I have done in quite a while. I highly recommend for anyone trying to squeeze more performance out of a slightly dated machine.

Low power speed

This processor is working well in my home server. The price point is high-end budget, but you get a high performance product (not top-shelf, but quite good). I replaced an old 55W Core i3 and this is approximately twice as a fast at the same ~60W power draw. Linux host serving files, email, and web, plus a QEMU Windows virtual machine. Get the version with the on-chip GPU if you want a relatively low power, affordable, fast home PC. Recommended.

Runs hot but fast
16 January 2023

This thing is sweet, but I was touching 94.5C every time I ran games for more than 30 mins or so with the stock AMD CPU cooler. Noctua NH-U12S seems to be making a big (20C) difference so far. For the price it's rad, and AMD engineers have confirmed that these things are designed to run hot, so it's probably not a huge deal either way- but definitely consider a better than stock cooler for this bad boy.

Best value AMD CPU for gaming (best overall for gaming by far IMO). You won't get hardly any noticeable FPS increase with the more expensive Vermeer chips so I chose this one. If you are doing more than gaming though then they can be very worth it. This 5600x is great and I am very satisfied so far. The stock cooler is pretty much good enough for most things as well but still something to think about upgrading if you are doing CPU intense things with your PC. CPU fan coolers are pretty cheap anyways.10/10 will be using this same CPU for the next person who asks me for help building a gaming/all around rig.

I mean, if you're reading this, then you know how amazing this CPU is for gaming and even light productivity work. In the games I play, I saw at least a 20% uptick in FPS and performance. Paired with a RTX 3080 FTW 3 Ultra, this combo smokes even Cyberpunk 2077 with everything RTX turned to Psycho and Ultra default(Vsync off). Easily hitting as high as 80 FPS and never dropping below 60 FPS. In Rainbow 6, I crack 400 FPS from time to time IN GAME. Not at the menu or loading screen. I average around 330 FPS at any given time in the middle of a round. In Division 2, I hover around 135 FPS on ultra preset, Vsync off on average in daylight settings, and have cracked 200 FPS at times at night. All this while playing at 1440p resolution. NOT 1080p. I recently bought a Steam Valve Index VR setup and started using it on my home theater PC (i7-6700 on an MSI Pro Carbon mobo with 16 gigs of ram and a GTX1080 GPU). I found that after running some games like Arizona Sunshine or Time Carnage VR, the CPU would spike up to 98-100% on all cores while the GPU was maxing out at about 45%. I decided to rebuild the computer using this CPU, an ASRock B550 Taichi, and 32 gigs of ram. I kept the GPU since a graphics card will pretty much cost you an organ these days, and the 1080 is still a strong performer. In the AMD lineup, for gaming, the 5600X is it. The 5800X is much more expensive for only modest gains (content creation tasks aside), and the 5900X or 5950X are waaaaay more expensive and very much aimed towards content creators. The 5600X is probably the very best price:performance deal in computer chips in a very long time!

compared to a Ryzen 5 3600. Getting 4.7 Mhz PBO enabled boosts with 360 AIO. Never exceeds 55c under load and idles as low as 21c. Obvious and major uplift in IPC with single and multi core operations. Gaming is now smooth and consistent and downright more enjoyable. Dont listen to ppl saying going from 3000 to 5000 series R5 isn't worth it. At $140.00...yes it is!
