I have used the American Crew Fiber and Pomade. This product, the "Forming Cream" I would describe as the middle, the perfect balance. My hair is thick, somewhat coarse, yet soft. I wear my hair short, almost like a buzz and usually let it grow longer so that I can comb it over (by longer I'm talking 4-5 inches on the top, sometimes more). What I didn't like about Fiber is that it can be too clay like and usually made my hair too stiff. I found fiber to work best the shorter my hair was, but even then it was a super strong and stiff hold. It was actually working as intended, but not to my liking. What I didn't like about Pomade was the high shine and depending on how much used, greasy feel to my hair. Pomade is a greasy, waxy, or water-based substance that is used to style hair. Pomade generally gives the user's hair a shiny and slick appearance. It lasts longer than most hair care products and often requires multiple washes for complete removal. The original pomade of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries consisted mainly of bear fat or lard. Lanolin, beeswax, and petroleum jelly have been used extensively in the manufacture of modern pomades. The stiffening properties of pomades make sculptured hairstyles such as pompadour possible.! i highly recommend it to everyone!

First time user of this product and pretty satisfied with its performance. Took a bit of getting used to as I have been a Forming Cream user for a number of years. I have superfine short hair that has a mind of its own. The Forming Cream was easy to use & did the job well. The Matte Clay however just a little harder to get right but discovered a fool proof solution. When hair is wet, spray a small dose of Sea Salt Spray on hair then dry off. Then take a fair size blob of the Matte Clay. Work it around your fingers then massage into your hair. Usually don't need to comb or brush just style with your fingers to get result you want. Would recommend.

Deception and terrible quality of American Crew
25 December 2021

It is different, changed, now terrible quality. Have used for about 10 years and prior last purchase was the Elvis edition and was the proper scent and consistency. Now smells like an old lady’s, 1970s, hand lotion; smells of alcohol and bandaids. Also has the watery consistency of cheap Jergens hand lotion, used to be a thicker, just short of paste, cream, and had a very pleasant musky vanilla scent. Spoke directly with a company rep and they denied a change, even though, it is obvious and there are multiple strings online stating the quality is diminished. WILL NEVER BUY AGAIN! Would select “0” stars if possible.

Excellent Matte Clay
18 December 2022

What I like about this product is that it tends to sit in the hair naturally and style is maintained for most of the day despite how much action your hair gets. I have short to medium length hair and it doesn’t dry hard and still has some natural movement which I like. Would recommend and is one of the better matte clays I have used. ATC, delivery quick and always on point.

Good, gritty hold
18 December 2022

This clay is great if you are looking for long-term hold. The style lasts through a busy day and can also last through a sweaty gym sesh. My hair is thinning and doesn’t suit this well but the matte texture is great, giving a gritty look and a sticky feel. The scent is also great, my girlfriend smelled it as soon as I met with her.

Great product, cost effective, smells great and has great hold.
19 December 2022

This is exactly what anyone who wants to style their hair needs. It’s very cost effective, only need a pea sized amount. It smells great and has great hold without turning your hair to rock. I really rate this stuff, it’s easy to spread through your hair and lasts all day, I don’t have any issues with it. Would recommend to anyone.

Noice

Was looking for an alternative to Claymation and this did the job. Easy scoop and applies nicely with a good scent. Washes out easily which is a plus (maybe not so in the rain). The hold was decent but definitely not as strong as Claymation and wasn't as matte as I would like. Overall, I would consider purchasing again if my usual products were unavailable. Thanks ATC

Perfect for short hair with a fade
12 December 2022

American Crew Matte Clay - I've been using American Crew for more than 10 years, the Matte Clay is perfect for men or woman who have short hair with a fade. It provides texture and definition without it looking greasy or you've got put too much product in your hair. I'd using sparingly to start and add more if you feel the style needs it. Its also not waxy at all, so when its time to wash out it, it comes out really easy. Highly recommend

Terrible consistency
5 January 2023

Bought three of these directly from American Crew and one was usable, one was like stringy putty and the last one was like a thick tacky putty. Two were totally unusable. Customer service told me they can’t replace them since it was more than three months after I placed my order. This shouldn’t matter when the product is clearly at fault! Pathetic customer service that don’t care about their loyal customers. Never again!
