This was also unreliable and it could regularly drop to ~200Mbps.With my Alien, I’ve reached up to 750Mbps up and down on my desktop, and I’ve consistently hit 600+ Mbps up and down on my WiFi 6 devices, such as my iPhone. While I have not done any speed tests on my WiFi 5 devices, I have noticed my devices in general all have lower latency and more stability.During setup/the first 48 hours, I did have two minor issues. The first issue was that after setup, all of the Wi-Fi networks disabled, though Ethernet devices were connecting just fine. A reboot of the device and it was perfectly fine. The second issue was that my video doorbell, the Wyze Doorbell would not properly connect to the dedicated 2.4GHz network for IOT devices. Rebooting the router and resetting the camera and connecting it to the main network solved the issue (the unit supports band steering). The AmpliFi app is great if you’re an intermediate user who likes knowing network stats and tracking devices, but doesn’t want to get overwhelmed by too many technical details, you’ll love the app. No dark mode, sadly, and an account is required, but navigating the app and customizing it is very easy. The Alien itself a pretty unique device. It’ll blend into any environment, but I recommend disabling the screen and LED. Having a screen is kind of cool, but every data point it has is available in the app, and the screen is too small to really be that valuable in my opinion, but some may like it.

I've renovated my home a few years back and although I love the additional space added on, I created problems that I could not have anticipated. My home went from approximately 3,000 sq ft., built in the 80's, to 4,500 sq ft. Great for space, but a NIGHTMARE for Wi-Fi coverage. The additional walls, plumbing, insulation, sound proofing and electrical system befuddled any Wi-Fi system or extender I could find. I caught a YouTube video on the benefits of Wi-Fi 6 and decided to pick up the Amplifi Alein Mesh Wi-Fi system and BOOM, I instantly had better Wi-Fi speeds than I've ever seen at any time in this house. I started with Router and Mesh Point package (Router downstairs and Mesh Point Upstairs in the Master Bedroom). For reference, I have Xfinity internet with 1G down and 50Mbps up.In the room with the Router, I get up to 952 Mbps down and about 44 Mbps up - and that's with the kids FaceTiming or playing video games with their friends at the same time. The bedroom with the Mesh unit upstairs gets 552 MPS down and 41.2 MPS up. On the new portion of the house, the coverage dropped to 34 Mbps at the furthest point which is a back bedroom. Fine for basic Wi-Fi use I guess, but not good enough for our needs. During the toughest part of Covid last year, there were at least 3 of us on Zoom sessions at times. Coordinating schedules to ensure zero dropouts, was out of the question (and this is why I love this system), so I opted to purchase 2 additional stand-alone units over the next few months to use as mesh points and cover the entire house and INSTANT improvement took place. We had zero drops on Zoom calls and the slowest speed I get in any room is 322Mbps down and 38.9 Mbps up. It's amazing. According to the Amplifi app, I currently have 30 devices connected to the system and everything's working blazingly fast. Now, if I can figure out how to get this kind of speed to the furthest part of my backyard, I may never go back to the office!Seriously, if Amplify Alien comes up with an outdoor system, it's over for anyone else. It's that good.

I've heard nothing but good things about this router and the company that makes it so I had really high hopes for it and purchased it for my parents to replace their aging Apple Time Capsule. Unfortunately after setting it up, there's been nothing but problems. I was able to fix the speed issue by messing around with some of the settings. You'll find some of the settings that should increase the speeds actually do quite the opposite. In regards to range, the house isn't much more than 2000 sq ft and devices that are maybe 60-80 feet away from the router are only getting 39%. A lot of the devices struggling with range are Apple so maybe Amplify routers just don't play nice with Apple for some reason. A lot of the devices struggling with range are Apple so maybe Amplify routers just don't play nice with Apple for some reason. The router also unexpectedly reboots a lot which causes everything to frequently stop working unexpectedly. Imagine watching TV (they have U-Verse) and all of a sudden it just cuts out for a few minutes and then comes back on without warning. And it does this multiple times throughout the day. Firmware is up-to-date and there's very few options that you're able to modify within the settings.
I'll keep this short and sweet. I bought 2 of these around 2 years ago when I bought my first house. My house is about 1700 sqft and was built in 1960's (I live in SF Bay Area, so houses are rather old). It has super thick walls and construction, so just 1 router wasn't going to cut it.Fast forward to today, I have about 45 devices connected to these (most of them wirelessly). I have smart light switches, smart plugs, 12 Ring cameras, Google Assistants, Alexas, a home theater PC, a DIY NAS, a network printer, you name it.These have been ROCK SOLID from day 1. I have to restart them maybe once every 3 months, most times because my cable model goes haywire and I lose internet connectivity. These pack all the essential features you'll need. An integrated ad blocker, the ability to define multiple SSIDs on different radios, and the "Teleport" feature which let's you VPN into your home and get access to all your local services remotely (I often use it for grabbing files from my NAS).The mobile app is very user friendly and exposes almost all these features to you (except the ad blocker). Also, I love the fact that I can see my home IP address in a matter of seconds when I'm not home.I recently bought my second home (a townhouse) and this is literally the first thing I bought. If you want the top-of-the-line routers that "just work" and are tired of dealing with all the crap that Netgear and other off-the-shelf manufacturers make, get the Amplifi Alien.

I bought 2 systems. 1 on marketplace and one at bb on the app. To be fair my issues are coming from the marketplace one and they finally stopped but for a year the thing would just kick all 40 of my devices off. They could re-join, but everything required a factory reset for reasons unknown. When you have a fully integrated smart home, that’s no small task… that’s a weekend project. The issue corrected itself after about 12 months and they are great routers now…Best Buy is primarily the reason for the low rating. Definitely do NOT purchase anything at Best Buy that can be found anywhere else-because once you get that receipt, you’re on your own and that receipt is worth less than the paper it’s printed on.At one point I had a Best Buy agent put me on hold when ... MoreI bought 2 systems. 1 on marketplace and one at bb on the app. To be fair my issues are coming from the marketplace one and they finally stopped but for a year the thing would just kick all 40 of my devices off. For 1 hour and 45 minutes. She intermittently told me a supervisor would call back but i said I’d hold the line because she had told me the same thing yesterday and last week! She finally hung up and I ultimately gave up. But I don’t shop here anymore. I’m heavily addicted to shopping and I can say wholeheartedly that Best Buy is the worst retail in America hands down. Like, by miles. Not even a competition.
Yeah, it's spendy, but it beats the Deco W7200 I only had for 6 months by miles. The Deco, as well as its app, was not great. When it worked, it worked pretty well, but I had constantly had problems with poor speed, dropped signal, and buffering. I had to reboot 3 or 4 times per day. I pay for decent speed (500mps) and on a good day, would get around 450, but then it would drop down to 1-10 and I would have to reboot, then it would go up to maybe 250 or so. With the AmpliFi my speed has increased to a solid 800 and there is no buffering at all. Setup was easy and the app works well if I want to switch channels or do anything else, but it's not so loaded that I get myself in trouble by changing a bunch of settings. This was the second mesh setup I tried after first buying the Asus Zenwifi XT8 Wifi6 Mesh setup. I was replacing a TP-Link router which worked great for about 5 years (favorite router to that point, recommended at least 5 different times to people) but it was starting to show its age and couldn't keep up with the growing number of smart home devices on our network and bandwidth requirements (was an older 802.11ac model so of course). The Amplifi Alien was my preferred option to begin with, but went with the Asus based on fairly even reviews, the dedicated wireless backhaul of the Asus, and the Asus being much cheaper. My experience with the Asus was great to start (the first few days). But I ended up spending time weekly trying to get it working right (I'm a techie so know what I'm doing), and finally gave up after complaints from the family that "its worse than the old router" and 6 months of unending troubleshooting, reverting firmwares, resetting to factory settings every few weeks to try again, etc. etc. etc.So I finally gave up and bought two of the Amplifi Aliens to replace it, and couldn't be happier. It worked great to start, but a little tuning and it's been rock solid and performing great. I went in a bit nervous as this is billed as "the Apple of routers", so I was worried about the lack of configuration options (advanced users, do your research in case it's missing something you need). But the simplicity I see as a huge positive, even as a tech saavy user. 95% of people don't need all the bells and whistles, so for the rest of us this is refreshing and does "just work". You aren't chasing weird issues all the time with this thing. Even things like my wireless surround that I had to mess with to prevent interference between it and the router, just worked. This has become my favorite router of all time, and I couldn't be happier. It's fast, has great coverage, is dead simple to administer and customize, and it has everything most people need and then some. I haven't missed the dedicated wireless backhaul.Yes, it's a little pricier than some, but still competitive or even cheaper than it's high end competition (looking at you, Orbi). If you are on the fence and comparing to others, buy the Amplifi Aliens. You can thank me later.
I can not recommend this enough. I have bought 3 of these already. It was the easiest setup of any router you will ever see and had no issues with setup. The app is super simple but still gives you so much control. The touchscreen is an awesome feature that give lots of great quick info of your network. Adding more to create a mesh network is extremely easy. I have had no dropouts or connection issues with any of the routers. My WiFi speeds have never been faster and more stable. It’s a must to get the full advantage of fiber speeds. I have gotten speeds over 400 mbps over WiFi. And it includes free VPN built in to access you network remotely. I ditched the Orbi for this, and it was the best move. The signal is strong and easily covers the house with great WiFi.
