My tests were done using a 2017 15" MacBook Pro. First impressions When I first took the hub out of the packaging, my initial impression was that it’s smaller than I expected. The marketing photos for the hub make it seem larger than it is, but it’s nice and compact and easily fits in the pockets in my bag. It also eased my original concerns about my expensive laptop supporting the weight of a big heavy USB hub using only Thunderbolt ports. My second takeaway was just how good the build quality is. Anker did a fantastic job with the quality of the aluminum frame of this hub, and the port cutouts are up to Apple’s level of precision. It genuinely looks and feels like it was made for a MacBook Pro. And for those with a laptop in Space Gray, I compared the two and the color is very similar. It's not perfect, but I don’t think most people would notice a difference without close inspection. Using the hub After plugging in the hub to my 15” MacBook Pro, the rest of my concerns about the size and weight disappeared. The hub doesn’t sag like I thought it might, and even with multiple devices plugged in the Thunderbolt ports support the weight without any trouble. The power indicator next to the Thunderbolt port lights up whenever the hub is plugged in though, which is a bit strange. I would have expected the light to only come on when connected to power, but since I never see it while using my laptop I don’t consider it a problem. The next thing I noticed was just how convenient it is to have pass-through charging. While I can easily live with plugging in power and a USB hub separately, only needing to plug in a single device when “docking” at my desk was a nice change. I was also happy to see that charging didn’t cause the hub to warm up, which means the power is transferring into the laptop efficiently. I did notice that the hub got warm whenever the laptop got warm, thanks to the aluminum frame picking up some of the heat. It never got uncomfortably warm though, and was never warmer than the laptop itself. Another concern I had was whether the USB ports could handle the power demands of the devices I plug in. Another Anker hub I own doesn’t supply enough power to some devices, and I need to plug those directly into my MacBook Pro using an adapter. This hub on the other hand seems to handle everything I plugged into it, even with multiple devices connected simultaneously. USB speeds also seem to be just as fast as plugging a device in directly, easily taking advantage of the throughput of USB 3.0. The rest of the ports work as expected. My 1080p monitor was detected immediately after plugging it into the HDMI port, and it worked every time I plugged the hub into my MacBook Pro without any issues. The memory card reader also works well, but since I don’t normally use memory cards I don’t have anything else to add. One thing to note is that the second USB-C port is just that - a USB-C port. It doesn’t support power passthrough or Thunderbolt 3 speeds. The last thing I tested was the hub’s ability to be plugged into the left or right sides of my laptop, which it passed. All of the Thunderbolt ports on the MacBook Pro are reversible and support charging, so it’s nice to see this working as expected. My only major complaint in the connectivity department is the lack of an Ethernet port. I can understand why Anker decided to leave Ethernet out in favor of a slim design, but this means I need to have a second USB dongle or hub with Ethernet for the instances where wireless networking doesn’t cut it. This isn’t a deal breaker, but it’s definitely a negative for me. Closing thoughts Now that I’ve been using this hub for a few days I’m more attached to it than I would have expected going in. I didn’t think I would care that much (it’s a USB hub after all) but it has genuinely improved the experience of connecting my laptop to all of the devices at my desk. It’s also nice to be able to plug a USB device into the left (or right) side of my laptop again, and I definitely prefer it over a USB hub that attaches with a cable. The hub does have one glaring problem though - if you don’t have a recent MacBook it’s not going to do anything for you. You’re not going to be able to plug this into any other laptop, so the market for a hub like this is going to be pretty limited. That being said, I think it will make a lot of MacBook owners happy who are looking for a convenient and well-made USB hub. If you’re in that group, you should definitely give this one a look.

Anker has thoughtfully designed an all in one USB Power hub that addresses the problematic issues of limited ports that were fazed out in the newer models of the Macbook Pro. With all this hub has to offer, it has replaced my use of the limited dongle I previously used. To begin, this review has been based on my experience with this Anker Power hub and it's application and use on my 2016 MacBook Pro. I'll begin with the quality of materials used which are impressive. Please notice in accompanying photos that this hub's housing matches my Macbook perfectly. As stated, this hub features a myriad of slots including two USB, memory slot and charging port. The latter is much appreciated as my Macbook can be connected to power while I utilize other applications. The only issue I feel bears mentioning is that I did have to remove the bottom portion of my protective skin/ case to connect the Anker hub to my Macbook. This is not a negative for me as the benefits outweigh this small inconvenience. Bottom line, I can enthusiastically recommend this Anker Hub and believe it's well worth the cost. There are less expensive options out there but if you're looking for something that will stand the test of time and allow you to utilize your Macbook to the fullest, I'd consider giving this hub by Anker a closer look. I think you'll be as pleased as I am. I hope my experience, along with my photos, help you out a bit with your choice. I can comfortably recommend this well designed, quality product. Thank you!

This is in all reasonable aspects a solid product. It does what it says on the tin, almost perfectly matches the space grey finish on the mac and even comes with a sleeve to protect it from scratches (or scratching other things, like the map, beware the sharp edges). Although this product is, in my opinion on the pricey side. As is with most apple products, you do get what you pay for. Its beautifully finished, has very tight tolerences and performes on all ports as advertised. I really, really wish it had an ethernet port. I've seen less known brands do this adapter with one and although I can't guarantee the quality will be Anker level, it's just such a nice port to have. I won't give it 4 stars as Anker doesn't promise an ethernet port and so it's 5 based on it ... MoreThis is in all reasonable aspects a solid product. I bought a MacBook Air. Not only did I need more than just two USB-C ports, I needed a bunch of other ports: HDMI, USB-A, and SD card. Although you might be able to get one adapter for each of those, the benefit of this Anker hub is that it is compact and allows for multiple devices to be hooked up at once: you don't need to unplug your HDMI cable to plug in an SD card. That functionality is fantastic. Two small negatives: 1) the hub comes out fairly easily, so be careful when disconnecting devices so as not to accidentally remove mounted drives; 2) you can't charge devices via the port. Neither of these are deal breakers: this hub provides so much value that it is easy to live with those drawbacks.
This is a small metal dock with two USB-C ports that are aligned with the ports on the side of the Macbook Pro laptops. This should work with the Macbook Pro 13, 15, & 16 along with the Macbook Airs with USB-C ports. You can see the full compatibility list above. Functionally it's identical to similar looking devices I've reviewed by other manufacturers. The top port is a "pass through" Thunderbolt 3 port that essentially just extends out the existing port on the laptop. Note though that the second port will not also pass through thunderbolt 3 and will deliver USB-C speeds only and only supports data devices (no display or power in the second port). What you get is an HDMI output on the rear, two USB 3.0 ports, and two card readers (one for full size SD cards and ... I have never been too crazy about this design and prefer a small Thunderbolt 3 hub with cable vs. this plug in design. The reason is that this dock disables the Macbook's second thunderbolt 3 port and reduces functionality. But if I had to choose a dock of this kind I'd go with the Anker version given the company's reputation for quality products that are designed to work safely with Apple equipment.
Anyone who owns a MacBook Pro (2016 & newer) or a MacBook Air (2018 & newer) knows the struggle of finding the right dongle for their need at the time. I have been testing the new USB C Hub from Anker and I was pretty impressed. I was one of the early adopters of the MacBook Pro after Apple decided to get rid of all the ports and switched over to the USB C ports. That meant I had to buy different dongles: one for my HDMI cable, one dongle to convert from USB C to A, another one to connect to my portable HDD. The 7-in-1 Anker USB C Hub is a great all in one tool that I was excited to try. I have used the HyperDrive hub that I supported through Kickstarter and although that has treated me well, it had its own set of quirks. Checkout My Full Review on the Anker ... I have used the HyperDrive hub that I supported through Kickstarter and although that has treated me well, it had its own set of quirks. Checkout My Full Review on the Anker Community! (Link in Bio) Specifications: This hub plugs in to the MacBook Pro using both of the USB C ports on the laptop. Once plugged in it has the following 7 ports: HDMI Port 2x USB A 3.0 Ports Thunderbolt 3 USB C Port USB C Data Port SD Memory Card Slot MicroSD Memory Slot It is compatible with MacBook Pros - 2016 & newer and also with MacBook Airs - 2018 & 2019. Comparisons: Comparing directly to the HyperDrive hub, Anker is heavier. But with that weight comes stability and sturdiness. When I would unplug a USB from the HyperDrive it was easy to pull the entire hub out of the laptop. I found that the Anker Hub was more likely to stay attached to the laptop and couldn’t be easily pulled out when plugging and unplugging different devices. The Anker Hub is slightly longer than the HyperDrive hub, which gives you ample space between each port. That way there is no struggling to fit multiple flash drives in at 1 time! The finish on the Anker Hub is great as well! I can be pretty clumsy at times and I have dropped the Anker hub a few times on concrete already and it withstood those drops pretty well. Of course it sustained some scratches on the edges, but the hub still functions as it should. Overall Experience: This hub is ideal for the person who has the tendency of using multiple peripheral devices at once. Using the hub avoids the annoyances of unplugging different devices or the need for different dongles. This hub also comes with a great feeling, multi-pocket carrying case, making it easy and secure to travel with in your bag. The Anker hub has easily replaced my older hub and has continued to make my everyday work life a little bit easier.
I've always been a huge Anker fan. Their products are of great quality and I've never had any issues with them. So when I was buying a new Macbook Pro and wanting to set up a docking station setup for my desk I specifically looked for an Anker dock. One of the most important things to me was the ability to make my desk as minimalistic and clutter-free as possible. This dock is different from most in that it plugs directly into the 2 lightning ports without using a dongle/cord. That allows for a clean and solid connection and mount. It is a little more expensive than the others with less connections, but it had what I needed and was the cleanest. I bought the prior version because the newer version is $10 more and only has a lightning audio output which would only be ... MoreI've always been a huge Anker fan. It is a little more expensive than the others with less connections, but it had what I needed and was the cleanest. I bought the prior version because the newer version is $10 more and only has a lightning audio output which would only be useful for corded Apple earbuds I believe. I didn't need that. It also has the ability to have power pass through which allows you to plug your charger into one of the USB-C ports and when you dock it instantly starts charging. Here's what I have plugged into mine: - HP monitor in HDMI (had extra laying around) - Logitech webcam into one USB - Anker 60W charger - Pebble USB-C speakers (these are awesome and use the USB-C for both power AND audio output eliminating the need for another 3.5mm aux cord. This is crucial because it allows you to dock the laptop and have everything functional with the single dock rather than have to plug an extra cord in as well) I also have an Apple Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard which are Bluetooth rather than USB wireless so they do not need a spot on the dock. This setup has worked seamlessly and is so much more ergonomic for long Zoom workdays on a larger monitor than staring at your laptop screen all day. It also gives you the flexibility of a laptop by being able to undock and take your computer anywhere. It really is the best of both worlds. Great work by Anker yet again!
I recently added a 16" MacBook Pro to the family and with the extra size/weight wanted to slim down on carrying adapters. I also have a 13" MacBook Pro (2018) and wanted something that would work for both of these without any shortfalls. The Anker delivers and works flawlessly on both of my MacBooks. Charging - It offers full rate charging on either unit and so far - hasn't gotten all that warm in the process. I expected a bake fest and me returning it, so was surprised there. Plugs/Ports - I skipped the Hyper-hub craze as I just never liked the fit into my MacBooks. So this is the first dual-port type device I have used on my Mac's, but it fits very well and doesn't feel like anything needs to be forced to work. Likewise on the receiving side, the card slots are friendly and you won't lose your cards, but it still holds them well. The USB-C ports respond well and have worked with all charger cables and dongles that I have. The USB-A's are classic Anker quality. Thinking about this more...I think I actually like plugging and unplugging things in this. There are some brands (cough: UNI) that I wonder if "this is the time" when it breaks on me or keeps my cable end. So far so good on the Anker. Peripherals and what works - I have only used portables on it a few times so I do not have much testing with NVME there yet, but SSD is just fine and works as normal. Only (1) port of this has Displayport active on it (the charge port). So if you are plugging in two screens to one side of the MacBook - that will need to change. At the same time, if you can convert one of those to HDMI you can connect the HDMI and then Displayport (via USB-C) over the charge port. In addition to fitting the ports well I should also mention - on the 13" MacBook Pro and Air this should lie mostly flush with the work surface you are on and the laptop edge. On the 16" MacBook Pro it does have a little gap under it due to the height of that unit. But it still does not protrude past the top edge and won't bug you if you brush your hand over it. TL;DR: At the time of this review I am about a week in. and have removed all the "docks" from my office and home so I can give this a decent test. At 60$ it is more expensive than other options, but performs very well for my needs. Cons: price I guess. I wouldn't mind a GigE Ethernet port on it at the same price point of 60$, or wait for it on sale if you don't care about the port. Big ANKER on the top of It sort of annoying, if I am picking nits. Pros: Quality interface, known brand, works well on multiple years of MacBook with no weirdness or driver problems. Compatible with latest models and software. Color matches the Apple Space Gray acceptably. I hope you found this review helpful, if not - leave a comment and let me know how we can change that! Thanks for reading my review, Chris
Great little hub for a great price, the hub is made to aesthetically fit the MacBook Air, literally looks like an Apple made product. It’s good quality build and works well with the devices that it says it can connect to. I only have one tiny worry and I saw other reviews pointing out the stress the two usb ports are under, I’m really careful when inserting the device because it could be quite easy to damage these ports. Apart from my one misgiving though it looks great and is well worth the cheap price for such a quality product.
