We purchased this as a replacement for our existing, identical, UPS, which needed a new battery. We have replaced batteries in other UPS's in the past and then had to replace the entire unit within 12 months. Our previous APC Back-UPS ES 550 UPS 300W 550VA 8 Output lasted us 8 years, so we're hopeful that this one will be similar. The 8 power sockets are a real bonus in terms of keeping extra kit powered to shut down cleanly.

It works fine. Just remember that you should allow it a day or so to fully charge before expecting it to keep your computer on for an extended length of time.I bought the same unit again because the previous one (and additional ones of the same make and model) have worked great for years. Nothing lasts forever, however.

We have power outages a few times a year, most of which last only a few hours. We have adjustable beds, a couple of laptop computers, and two LED lamps in our bedroom that draw perhaps 50 watts all together, and one of these units will carry us for an estimated one hour+. For our living room lamp, it draws only 13.5 watts, so we have light there, in another unit, for a few hours. Finally, one of these units protects a mini PC, and will support it for maybe and hour, long enough to complete a complex game and shut it down. So now we are ready for our next power outage and won't be left in the dark. Shipping was fast and the units (3 of them) were well packed in formed foam casings; every unit worked perfectly, and I tested each one for a simulated outage, so I am ... MoreWe have power outages a few times a year, most of which last only a few hours. Lay your typical two slice toaster on its side and that would be the approximate footprint of this back up device but it's easily three or four times heavier. Having said that we wall mounted ours (due to cable lengths & equipment locations) in a vertical orientation. One has an option to wall mount horizontally or vertically. The battery is the heaviest part of the assembly and is easily replaced should the need ever occur. After installing and plugging the back up into a 110 volt source the battery was fully charged later the next day. But the instructions state this so we were expecting it. We have our desk top computer, DSL modem & Wi-Fi router plugged into the "battery backup + surge protection" side and the all in one printer plugged into the "surge protection" only side. Last night we had a local thunder storm momentarily interrupt power to the house. We happened to be watching a TV show streaming over the Internet at the time. Although the TV went off and then back on the streaming TV show never dropped a byte. I jumped up to check status of the desk top and it was still on. The printer was rebooting but, I presume, was not compromised in any way by the power interrupt. Prior to have this battery back up the computer would have shut down instantly and the modem / Wi-Fi router would have to be reset. This item worked as we expected and we are pleased with the purchase. Tried to upload a photo of our installation but Wally's Web Site kept timing out.
My best success with UPS devices has been with the APC brand. This model is no different. My APC UPS: 550VA 120V BE550G is compact, reliable and uses a replaceable battery which greatly prolongs its useful life. I'm using this model to protect my TV, Dish satellite receiver and attached hard drive from power blinks and surges. Having even a momentary power interruption turns off the hard drive, stops recording TV programs and movies and causes the satellite receiver to go through a lengthy reboot. This UPS is robust enough to keep that equipment going during utility power interruptions for several minutes while also protecting that equipment and my TV from power surges. For interruptions longer than this UPS can handle, I'll start my backup power generator.
I have a new computer and this is my first UPS I've gotten for backup power. We have power blips and outages from storms and just randomly and I don't want any damage to the computer. I also plugged in the modem/router and now I don't need to worry about internet interruptions. Also protecting the printer and other peripherals on the non-UPS side of the box.
The reviews are confusing because they include reviews of a wide variety of sizes. This review is for the 600 VA model. I bought two from Home Essentials Direct, one for the TV & satellite receiver and another for my wife's PC. I also own a Cyberpower 1500 VA unit for my own hardware which has a lot of external HDs and other stuff connected. The units work well for their intended purpose. I got about 35 minutes on a 32" LCD TV, a wifi router, a 5 port switch, a Dish Satellite receiver /DVE and an external (sleeping) HD on the DVR. On my wife's Celeron PC + a 22" LCD monitor I got about 45 minutes. I am in the boondocks in New Mexico and we have a LOT of power issues. These units work well in this environment. One of the questions I see concerns silencing the alarms. ... MoreThe reviews are confusing because they include reviews of a wide variety of sizes. This review is for the 600 VA model. One of the questions I see concerns silencing the alarms. I did not install the PowerChute software on my wife's computer, and obviously did not install it on the TV/Dish receiver. The alarm can be set to not sound via some push and hold tettings via the power button. It's explained more or less clearly in the docs that came with the unit, though the type is small and difficult to read. The biggest issue with this unit is that to set it up you have to remove the battery to connect it up before use. Pay close attention when you remove it as it goes back in via the least intuitive route. Fortunately I had 2 and was more observant when removing the second battery so I could figure out how to put the first back in. It went the only way I hadn't tried. I hadn't tried it because it seemed completely wrong headed to route the wires they way they actually route.
Best WFH piece of equipment you can get for yourself. A few months ago, the surge protector my company sent me home with went out, so I ordered this APC battery backup. I forgot I bought it and last night when my town had a scheduled power outage, I stayed online at work. I was confused, but then I remembered this little investment! Finished my shift and we stayed online after work on our devices. So, I was able to run my modem, router, and laptop 4+ hours until I went to bed and I know it still had juice then. Worth the investment!
Perfect specifications and form factor for what I needed to do:My power flickers off and back on within milliseconds when lighting strikes here in Florida. Sometimes it flickers several times during a passing thunderstorm. Electronics don't like flickers, and a surge protector strip, by itself, does not help. Power returning almost instantaneously after going down causes circuit boards to fail. Two years ago I lost an almost new (1-year-old) Linksys 1900 AC to flickers, and wasn't about to lose my replacement router, Netgear Orbi RBK20W Mesh. so I installed an APC 600va UPS in the tower form factor. But for my master bedroom TV and sound system I needed a flat form factor UPS to fit under a dresser drawer. Nice product.
Have had 1 of these since 2013 & it took a lightening hit & saved everything connected to it not to mention various other surges & power fails. Am on my 3rd battery - they range around 17 $$ on E-bay & last approx 5 to 7 years. Since this is a small battery, it only holds enuff juice for about 5 minutes when connected to a tower computer, 20 inch screen & various accessories. This is sufficient time for a complete shutdown but if you're not at the computer you'd better run. Am in a rural area with lots of power interruptions. I purchased this 1 as a Christmas present. Good price well packed & FAST mailing. Very satisfied with product.
