Arrived safely, although the battery will not charge & needs to be replaced. It would have been a better deal to sell it without the battery to reduce weight, & charge less for postage.

I've used APC products for a couple of decades now. I've replaced batteries a couple of times and had to replace an entire unit once, but only after it gave me many years of protection. The most important feature of the Smart UPS line is that it works with our old generator, which does not produce the most consistent power. I'd give it 5 stars if the computer interface were USB instead of serial.

An excellent size for our desktop systems. We used the "Trade-UPS" program to replace our older 400's and 420's with the 620's. Would like to have a USB port in addition to or as a replacement for the serial port interface.
Works great; instructions lacking needed information, but company answered questions twice, very quickly. Unit is very heavy, and takes up a fair bit of space. It is also fairly expensive. But, it keeps power to computer running during very short power outages, and that is exactly what we needed.
If you have an old SU620NET that needs replacement and you do not want to change out cable runs or software, this SC620 is what you want. Only differences are the colour and "flatter" front panel with words instead of icons beside the LEDs. The back panel has the identical layout, except for a few bits of updated text. I was able to shutdown my system, disconnect cables, shift this one into place, reconnect cables, and boot up system with no problems. Existing PowerChute PLUS 5.2 install saw this unit same as the old. It uses the exact same black smart signaling cable (I used my existing cable). Only thing I had to do was stop the UPS service for ~35 minutes to get the battery charge up enough to not generate a "UPS battery is discharged" error. Bought this at a local big box store because I needed it immediately. Doesn't sport the LCD screen that the newer cheaper plastic UPS units have but I never really look at the UPS anyway even if it has a pretty LCD screen.
Have used APC UPS for decades. Would not use any other make. Spare batteries are easy to come by too
Works great...don't have to listen to that infernal beeping anymore...would've liked it better if the red wire had already been attached as the directions said...holding that battery and trying to attach two short wires wasn't fun, but got it done.
This is not apparent on the description - the communication for this device is by SERIAL PORT ONLY. Do not buy this unit if you have a PC with only USB ports for commuications (as most new PC's are). If you get this unit and you do not have a serial (RS-232) port, you will not be able to commuicate with and control the PC in case of a power outage (i.e. shut the system down gradefully when the unit senses a power outage). You can buy a USB-to-serial conversion adapter, but this costs another $20 and you will still have to use the software supplied with the unit (Powerchute) instead of the WIndows power monitoring service.I bought this particular UPS because of the form factor - it fits perfectly into our HTPC cabinet.
