Dell XPS laptops do have a slight edge in terms of screentobody ratio, but nonetheless it does look very sleek.From a software perspective, Mac OS is not something Ive had any real exposure to before, but within a couple of days I had settled right in. Gestures are well implemented much better than windows and there are plenty of useful shortcuts available for those who wish to use them. My only real complaints here is the absolutely bananas idea that you have to download special software to transfer files back and forth from an android device. I found this pretty irritating, especially as I wanted to add a bunch of photos from my S10 and the process was less than seamless. I also think the Touch Bar is a total gimmick. It displays largely irrelevant info most of the time and I cant fathom why they would want to make simple tasks such as changing volume or brightness more complicated than necessary. I can see the vague utility of being able to scrub through YouTube videos or editing projects with greater ease, but Im pretty sure this was simply Apples way of justifying the upgrade to some customers. Im glad we have a physical escape key now though Ive seen this is missing from prior models. Also worth mentioning is the finger print scanner it works well amp is great for maintaining security while ensuring that logging in is seamless, but I wouldve liked them to implement Face ID as that Windows computers already have this in the form of Windows Hello. Its also worth noting, as an aside that you can only stream Netflix at a Maximum of 1080p, and only via Safari Chrome is 720p. This obviously isnt an issue for most people, but I do have Netflix in 4k, so would ideally have liked to make full use of the nearly 4k display. Its also clear that the Windows store is much more populated than Apples Store for Mac these store fronts are great for easily and securely keeping your commonly used applications up to date I always use the Netflix on the windows store as it can provide full 4k.The IO is absolutely fine 4 thunderbolt ports and a headphone jack do me just fine, though your mileage may vary if youre sick of living that dongle lifestyle.Overall great machine, stunning build quality and a breeze to use. I wont comment too much on performance, as this is not my expertise all I can say is that it is pretty snappy all round. It is pricey and it is not the most versatile OS in terms of compatibility, but the overall experience is fantastic if you have the money to burn and dont need to game or stream 4k Netflix.

Battery life is just about okay but does fall off quickly after about 5060 Not as luggable as a 13 inch machine no surprise here thoughOutcomeI just could not live with the fan noise, not at this price point It just becomes so irritating after about 15 minutes. I was very much less impressed with this machine than I was with my old 2015 model when I got it. Personally I think Apple have slipped up here and tried to cram an i9 processor that needs more airflowcooling and power than such a slim laptop can realistically provide. This is the first time in 20 years of using apple kit that I have been less than happy and had sadly had to return an item.If you do NOT intend to use an external monitor and use moderately heavy apps only then fine, but otherwise i would suggest that you do some serious research first before parting with this amount of cash.... it should be damned near perfect but sadly is NOTNote that Stationery Packs have been great in dealing with this... so 5 for them

Its overpriced, the fans kick in quite fast since it gets hot quickly and it only supports USB-C and no other ports. Last but not least, the touch bar is fantastic and fairly easy to use. It cannot only stop and play the music youre listening to on iTunes, but also the videos youre watching on YouTube. You can adapt it to your preferences. Fortunately, they decided to change the old butterfly keyboards, so they arent sticky anymore. The most wonderful thing about this keyboard is that the ESC button is separate from the touch bar, which wasnt the case with the older models. There have been complaints about that and now its fixed! If youre on a tight budget, DO NOT buy this laptop. There are so many laptops out there that can provide you the same experience. Only buy this laptop when you have money to spare. Also, DO NOT buy it when youre only using it for basic operations, such as watching Netflix, YouTube and some light office work on Word or Powerpoint.

This purchase met my high expectations for out-of-the-box usability, processing speed for graphics-intensive and computationally complex work, crisp display quality, and responsive keyboard and touchpad function. Keyboard backlighting and Touch Bar are nice. The sticky trackpad (of prior models) does not currently seem to be a problem. The screen size is perfect for multi-tasking - I honestly don't know how people use the smaller 13.3" screen. The battery stays charged much longer than my prior machines (given the same workload and/or standby delays). Onboard camera, speakers and microphone worked perfectly for a Zoom call without tweaking any settings. Caveats: The laptop does not have a touch screen, nor does it fold to enable tablet functionality, which would be an enhancement. USB ports include only USB-C type and there are also no HDMI or SD/microSD ports - this means I always have to carry around extra adaptors. The power cord is short (shorter than prior models) and, unlike prior models, is not modular to enable substitution of a longer outlet-to-transformer cord. This will ultimately mean added expense for those who do not want or cannot plug their charger directly into their wall outlet or powerstrip. The system comes with macOS Catalina, which for me required time and effort to upgrade to Big Sur so that I could migrate files from my prior MacBookPro and Time Machine backups. The migration process took more time than what I would expect for a Mac, but this is largely due to quirks of Big Sur. Lastly, while there IS a standard headphone/microphone jack, it is different from the iPhone 7-8-XS-XR-11 headphone/microphone lightning cable. So if I use wired headphones, I either need 2 sets of headphones or an adaptor to use the same headphones with both devices. This may be more an iPhone problem than a MacBook Pro problem, though.
This is a big unit. Quite a lot thicker than the previous Intel i7/i9 versions. Think I prefer the Touch bar to the new fixed function keys. New keyboard mechanics feels solid, but not a huge difference. HDMI and SD ports will benefit some, but not if you already have docks, adapters etc. Back to Mag-safe for the power cable, and AFAIK this means you cannot charge via the USB-C/Thunderbolt sockets. The US-C/Mag-safe cable comes in the box, but if you need another one, these are expensive from Apple. I'd prefer it if they hadn't gone back to Mag-safe. I don't notice any difference with the screen vs the previous 2019 model. Battery life and charge speed, with the 140w PSU, are very impressive.

Apple genius bar diagnoses logic board damaged and its not repairable so need to be replaced. One year manufacturer warranty is finished and as its not bought directly from apple the repair cost is on customer! Which is about 800. So a 2.300 MacBook doesnt work even for 2 years! Really disappointing I got it on Jul 2020, it was the second latest model and based on reviews one of the best machines in the market! But my own experience is totally the opposite! I researched from some Mac repair specialists and they say its not even a rare issue with this model, so its common and Apple has not confirmed that as a manufacture issue yet! I researched from some Mac repair specialists and they say its not even a rare issue with this model, so its common and Apple has not confirmed that as a manufacture issue yet! So just DONT BUY IT!
I have dived into the Mac walled garden, which I have avoided for years. There is good and bad - everything is overpriced for starters, but this used laptop was priced about right. However, the walled garden promises that I can set the machine up, and allow the grandchildren to learn and play, without worrying about where they might go, or what they might do. Peripheral addons are proving expensive, but I am getting there. I hope to have the workstation configured and ready to play on, in time for Christmas. Overall, quality is good, security is good, and the machine is highly configurable, as the root user. For workstation use, plugging into whatever monitor you like works well. (docking station required of course) Overall, money well spent, and I have no real complaints yet. I regard 1Tb drive and 16 Gb of memory as "minimal". It amazes me how steep a price Apple puts on storage and memory! I still spend most of my time on my Linux server / workstation.
I dont think much needs to be said about the aesthetics of this laptop. Its a MacBook, you know the build quality to expect. The i9 is a monster. Whether its video editing, cad rendering, or gaming, this cpu doesnt struggle with anything. The 5500m is no slouch either. Great performance for rendering, but also does a very respectable job for gaming. So far ive run WOW, Destiny 2, ANNO1800, and Heroes of the storm at native resolution, max detail settings, and have no trouble maintaining 60+ fps in any of these. Thermals typically hover in the low-mid 70c range while gaming, and creep up into the 80s under a heavy cad or video rendering load. Fan maxes out around 5400rpm and the noise level is minimal. due to the location of the vents, airflow restriction while in use on your lap is not an issue. the keyboard feels great, and thanks to the switch back to scissor switches from the atrocious butterfly design, longevity shouldn't be a concern. Keyboard backlighting is clear and adjustable. The Touch Bar is a love it or hate it design. I think the option to configure it to better utilize the keyboard space makes it a great feature. The screen is bright, super crisp and vibrant, and leaves nothing to be desired. Its also a taller aspect ratio than many laptops out there which I prefer. The microphone is crisp and clear and noise cancelling very good. The speakers are the best ive ever heard on a laptop, very full and rich with decent low end. Battery life is unbeatable as well. Youll go all day on a single charge for basic office tasks, and even under heavy loads ive seen north of 4 hours before I get critical battery warnings. I am running the Big Sur beta and saw battery life improvement over Catalina as well. Dual booted with windows 10, there is nothing you cant run on this thing. The touchpad is the best available on a laptop. Large, precise, great haptic feedback, and perfect palm rejection. There are really only two complaints I could register here. The first, is that at this price point id expect to see 802.11ax. The ac wifi in this laptop is very good and consistent, but considering there is not lan port, id prefer to see an ax chip so that if I did need to do any large file transfers quickly, I wouldn't need a usb c dongle to achieve gigabit transfer speeds. The second is IO. I understand that in the creative world there are many memory card formats in use, but lets be real here apple, the most widely used is SD/MICROSD. Is it so much to ask that we get an SD card slot so that we can eliminate yet another dongle from the backpack? 4 thunderbolt ports is great and allows virtually any io configuration you could ask for, but if im out in the field offloading drone footage or pulling data off of datalogging tools, id rather just be able to drop the SD card directly into the laptop and avoid having any protrusions from the computer via a dongle. Aside from these two complaints, its the perfect prosumer or professional machine if you want integration into your apple ecosystem, need macOS, or just want the ability to run both Mac and windows on the same machine. It takes a little bit of technical knowhow to load windows 10 along side macOS, and if you choose to do so I recommend doing it on Catalina prior to updating to Big Sur. The Big Sur bootcamp assistant is broken currently, which means you would have to manually disable the t2 security chip, partition the drive, load windows, load bootcamp drivers, and then re-enable the T2 chip. With that said, the hard drive is sizable enough to simultaneous have the current Mac OS version, the beta version, and windows 10 loaded side by side, allowing you to test new software or run any software from either ecosystem on the same laptop. Very versatile.
Was excited to purchase this laptop but I did not get to open the box until today because I have been extremely busy. Only for me to open it up and observe that the charger was not working. Once the charging port is plugged out the laptop goes off and the status bar of the battery is at 1% since I started charging it yesterday up until now. The battery bar also says 'not charging' even when the adapter is plugged. I am really disappointed. I never envisaged this kind of issue with this product. I am hoping the seller would remedy the issue right away.
