This device actually works really well. The wireless is reliable and the setup was flawless for a windows PC. The problem is the design. It is back heavy which makes the connections to the port fail. Makes it seem like it’s on but it isn’t. I have resorted to using something, rubber band or whatever, to make the connection reliable. Once that is in this works well and is worth the money. I recommend to anyone who needs a cheap wireless ac adapter and has a little macgyver in them.

I bought this adapter because the onboard wireless adapter in my laptop was limited to the 2.4 GHz band and I was hoping to increase download speed by switching to the 5 GHz band. The adapter was immediately recognized by Win 10, so setup was a breeze. But when both signal strength and internet speed were significantly lower on both bands than with the onboard 2.4 GHz adapter. On the 2.4 GHz band, signal strength dropped from -53 dB (excellent) to -68 (OK, but not great), and speed dropped from 50 MBps to 25 MBps. Worse yet, strength on the 5 GHz band was -73 (marginal at best) and speed was 10-15 MBps. It's a good thing the price was low. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with the adapter and suspect that, in other situations (perhaps not so far from ... This device is not supported by the mainline Linux Kernel. No network driver loads when it is plugged in. lsusb shows the following device is identified:ID 2357:0138 TP-Link 802.11ac NICThis seems to be associated with the Realtek RTL8812AU driver. There are multiple Github repos for compiling this driver. The recommended repo results build errors on both Gentoo and Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS.Do not buy this device if you need it to work with Linux.

I purchased two. The first installed very easily and over came the problem that the internal wi-fi had in dropping the signal. This is much improved. Installation was very easy and no issues. Because of that I purchased a second. The installation was not so easy. Can't say as to why but it would not find the device and having found it would not find a router. After getting the latest down load from the web site (used the CD installed software first) it was okay. Again, over the nano dongle used before the Archer T2U Plus with the antenna worked better either with the antenna vertical or horizontal and at the back of the PC. It is 5GHz only so some older routers wont be found.
Have a high-end desktop that has always used an ethernet cable for the internet. Had to move the computer out of a cable range, so used this TP-link AC600 for connection. Its connected through the 5GHz signal and works very well. While there might be faster versions of this product, it's my home router and internet service that is the limiting speed factor that makes them unnecessary. Installation was easy and its been as consistent as an internal internet card.
This wireless adapter is a great value for what it offers. It is plug and play making it simple enough for the average non-IT user to operate themselves. I purchased to upgrade my sister's desktop to allow for wireless connection, and it works great. I would recommend this adapter for web surfing, streaming, and day to day activities. For most gaming I would recommend a more powerful product than this. However this is perfect for the average user!
I bought it for a desktop computer but ended up using it to connect to fallback 5GHz Wi-Fi for an old 2.4 GHz-only laptop when our 2.4GHz Wi-fi went out. That's how I broke it. So be warned. If you buy, stick to stationary use only. Also, have a plan for installing the manufacturer's driving. I experienced continuous connection-dropping when I first plugged it in. Fortunately, that went away when I did install the driver, but make sure you have a CD drive to read the disc it ships on or alternate internet access to download it from TP Link. Overall, a great buy. I was really happy with it, just wish I'd taken better care of it. For a pure desktop machine (like I had originally planned), I would absolutely get it again.
I bought this adapter to provide wireless connectivity to my desktop pc, which was previously connected with an ethernet cable. Given the presence of several walls between the router and the pc, a smaller adapter (without antenna) I had was not able to provide a stable connection. This product completely solved my issue, and offers excellent speed. I measured ~450 Mbit/s, limited by my internet connection, not by the device.Very recommended!
The TP-LINK AC600 USB adapter's super high gain more than compensates for its larger size than those thumb-drive sized adapters. Still small enough to fit into the side pocket of my laptop carrying case. Easy installation of drivers from the included DVD. My only problem was at first I appeared to have no greater WiFi signal strength (zero bars) than I did prior to installing and mounting the adapter. I subsequently discovered that my Windows 10 OS laptop default selection was the internal WiFi. In discovering and selecting WiFi 2, the AC600, my laptop had phenomenal WiFi range. There was nothing in the provided installation instructions mentioning the need to select WiFi signal sources.
I bought three of these 'TP-LINK AC600' for a someone that needed WiFi on three computer tower systems for their small business. I was very impressed with the easy installation of product and the simple but easy to understand, easy to read installation manual. It was pure "plug and play" as opposed to "plug and pray" that some products are these days. Just insert the included installation CD and then follow the onscreen prompts. It could not have been any easier as it took only a few minutes, not a few hours to complete the setup. Within minutes I was able to click the internet icon on the Windows task bar, select the wireless router and the computer was connected to the internet. The device is not obtrusive if mounted in the back of the computer system. Thanks to ...
