Battery life is great too, we got approx 1 month supply of footage in the front, which had the most activity before we had to charge them for upto 4hours of the day to full charge again.

(These Arlo Pro 2 cameras only have 90 days of 24 hour phone tech support, so it is best to thoroughly test the Arlo security system as soon as possible, so that if you have any technical questions, then you can call and get the answers you need, before the 90 days runs out.)I also own the older Arlo Pro cameras, and the packaging of the Arlo Pro 2 cameras is better than the packaging on the Arlo Pro cameras. The Arlo wireless base is a bit smaller than I had expected, it kind of lacks a premium feel, it feels really light in the hand, I am sure it has sufficient components on the inside to handle the wireless signal transferring tasks, but the overall build of the Arlo base seems bit lacking.I would recommend this product to a friend, as having a security camera guarding your belongings, is better than getting robbed and wishing you had a way of knowing who had done it.Overall, the Arlo wireless security cameras are convenient and reasonably easy to setup, and the video quality is 1080p on these Arlo Pro 2 cameras, the older Arlo Pro cameras only had 720p.I am rating this Arlo Pro 2 security camera’s at 3.8 out of 5 stars.

I'll start off by saying that I was really trying to be impartial to Arlo, especially being a Google and Nest guy. The thing that attracted me to this was the price point when it was on sale for $267 for the 2-pack bundle and the wire free option. I literally spent 4 hours reviewing reviews, comparisons and pro and cons of this vs Nest IQ cam. After unboxing it, and testing it, my suspicions were true. Biggest detractor was the 10-20 second lag in live mode! And upon doing further research in the Arlo community board, apparently a lot of people are regretting this system for that exact issue as well. Not to mention that this camera does not offer 24/7 recording like Nest, which I get is a cloud based subscription service, but for me, seeing 24/7 recording feature ... MoreI'll start off by saying that I was really trying to be impartial to Arlo, especially being a Google and Nest guy. The positive, it's small unit but that's overshadowed by the router type base you have to connect to your router, which was a con. Video quality was decent, but let's be real here. Nobody will ever use up there entires WiFi bandwidth to ever stream in 1080p which could easily get you in trouble with your internet provider, if you have a middle tier service plan. Needless to say, once figuring out that the feed had such a long lag and that Arlo has 4 versions of this camera, I quickly packed it up and returned it. Something to consider when comparing is the price, because as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. So for me, buying the Nest IQ cam was worth the $200 extra dollars, knowing that I don't have to worry about the camera not recording or keeping an eye out for me outside, while I'm sleeping. And if you want something solid, you're going to have to spend a little bit more!

Nice upgrade to the Pro system.
13 November 2017

If you are familiar with the Arlo Pro system then everything in the Pro 2 works pretty much the same way. The main differences between the two are the Pro 2 supports full HD 1080 recording and the ability to program “Zones” for the motion detection. Other than that it’s pretty much exact same thing as the Pro system “which we also had”.Setup is really easy, just plug in the power adapter to the base unit, plug in the Ethernet cable and the other end into your router, plug in the power adapter and then press the power button. It does take a little bit for the lights on the front to turn green, the far right camera light will stay orange till you sync your cameras. You also need to go online and set up your Arlo account, connect to the base and then follow the ... MoreIf you are familiar with the Arlo Pro system then everything in the Pro 2 works pretty much the same way. It does take a little bit for the lights on the front to turn green, the far right camera light will stay orange till you sync your cameras. You also need to go online and set up your Arlo account, connect to the base and then follow the instructions on syncing your cameras, it’s really simple. I did try to charge the cameras before syncing but found that the batteries were full and didn’t need charging. You may want to do this before mounting them the first time.I like that you can set up different programs and scheduling to fit your needs and can even have one cameras motion detector trigger a different cameras video recording, or you could set them so that if one camera detects motion all cameras record video. And as with the Pro system the Pro 2 cameras record audio which is pretty clear. You can also set the cameras to record on detecting audio, “although I don’t do this”.The battery life so far seems to be the same as the Pro system, but I’ll know more a couple months down the road. Our busiest camera which is set to record pretty much anything that passes the road in front of our house records a lot, at good 20 clips a day, and the battery on the Pro system usually lasted 3 months or more. I’m really impressed by that, and it’s really easy to bring it in, charge it up and put it back. Charging only takes about an hour and a half which is pretty quick for the size of the battery. The other thing I really like about the Pro and Pro 2 systems is the ability to add a thumb drive for local recording, so that all the videos are recorded there in case you need to retrieve them. I added a 32gb thumb drive but haven’t checked to see how many recording it can hold but with the full HD video clips being around 1.6k MB the thumb drive should hold a lot. Unfortunately you can’t access the thumb drive remotely and have to remove it to view the videos.Remote viewing seems pretty much the same as the Pro system but the video is a little clearer on the Pro 2 system with the settings set to maximum. I like this was anything further away look sharper and it’s easier to identify who or what was just captured. This is a nice upgrade over the Pro system, having the ability to set up motion detection zones is nice, but you must have the camera attached to the power adapter all the time for this to work. The clearer image is also a pretty nice boost the system and I can definitely give this a “Buy” rating if you are in the market for a simple to set up security camera system that works. It's not absolutely perfect, "nothing is", and wish the local videos could be viewed even if it's only on the internal network the base unit is attached, but we are very pleased with our Arlo system.

Overall Very Good, But Consider the Ultra
12 June 2019

First off, I'm very technically savvy but this is my first security camera system. I reviewed six major online "Wireless Security Camera System" reviews performed in the last 12 months and 4 of the 6 recommended the Arlo Pro 2. Granted, the Ultra had not come out yet for most of these reviews, so once I narrowed down my choice to Arlo I simply compared the two systems by reviewing the specs and the online reviews at Best Buy and other places. I decided to go with the Pro 2 for four main reasons: 1) it came highly recommended by reputable reviews, 2) it provided FREE 7-day cloud access to my videos (unlike the Ultra), 3) it was (at the time) about half the price of the high-end Ultra model, and 4) I saw many complaints about long-distance WIFI connectivity with the ... MoreFirst off, I'm very technically savvy but this is my first security camera system. I decided to go with the Pro 2 for four main reasons: 1) it came highly recommended by reputable reviews, 2) it provided FREE 7-day cloud access to my videos (unlike the Ultra), 3) it was (at the time) about half the price of the high-end Ultra model, and 4) I saw many complaints about long-distance WIFI connectivity with the Ultra by new users (and I can't speak to the issue personally obviously, but since my install distance was going to be pretty far I was afraid to take that risk). So here are my initial thoughts about installation and 2 weeks full-time use:1) It's a nifty system that's very easy to setup -- had it up and running in no time. Included magnetic mounts are the easiest things I've ever installed!2) I wish it had a 5Gz WIFI band, but it seems to be working well enough on 2.4Gz passing through multiple walls and one floor at about 75 feet (not a great signal but good enough).3) Both cameras are installed outside, with temps thus far ranging from about 40-80 degrees F. Here's a HUGE plus in my opinion -- even with lots of testing and camera adjustments, both batteries are STILL at about 90% after two weeks. Awesome!4) The Arlo App (on Android at least) is great...very user friendly with lots of settings. For those who have read it elsewhere, there is a noticeable "lag" (3-5 sec) between when you ping a camera to connect to when you get the video feed -- but all of this can't be blamed on Arlo (i.e., think of all the connections being made to make this happen!)5) I don't really use the "sound" capability to talk to anyone, but if I did it seems to be adequate but not great (the ability to hear someone talking on the stream).6) Night vision quality is actually pretty good in very low light, but if you have any bright source of light anywhere in the video -- such as headlights on a passing car (and I don't mean directly pointed at the camera, either) -- it renders the clarity almost useless (we live in a Condo complex and planned to use one camera to watch for cars going into and out of the complex for security -- at about 50-60ft -- but it failed this role at night time miserably)7) Lastly, daytime video/image quality. Yes, its 1080HD...BUT, it's also spread across a really wide angle. What this means is what you see when you look at this on your phone and try to zoom to see detail will leave you disappointed (and it's worse on a larger screen). It certainly did me. If I had to do it over again I would spend the extra money for the Ultra (which is 4K, meaning you'll probably get very good 1080HD detail out of it). But for the purpose of just watching our front entry and rear patio, the Arlo Pro 2 suffices...so I'm keeping it since it seems to be performing admirably for our own security purposes (even though we can't use it for more extended complex secuirty).

Simple set up, ease of use and great quality
12 November 2017

We absolutely love this Arlo security camera system. From it's easy set up, great picture/video quality, to convenience to move, add, charge and adjust within the smartphone/tablet app, I really feel like this system is one of the best on the market. Free cloud storage is an added benefit however I also opted to plug in a USB drive to the base to record and save videos on. One issue I've found is if you are planning on putting a camera behind a glass window, say trying to monitor/record outside video while mounting the camera inside behind glass, it does not seem to pick up motion outside to record. I assume this is due to the glass interfering with the motion sensor. I assume this is due to the glass interfering with the motion sensor. On a funny side note, the first night we had it set up we discovered that we have frogs in our garage and they were recorded crawling up our window, looking for flies I'm sure. The other concern I have is if you are considering using this as a baby monitor, you have to rely on the alerts within the app and your wifi. If your wifi stops working, you can't access your camera and you better ensure your settings are correct if you want to receive prompt alerts to monitor a sleeping baby. We still opted to have a separate, non wifi, baby monitor because we just couldn't trust the app notifications and our wifi. There is a few second delay within the app so that also may be an issue for a variety of reasons. We have to charge the batteries approximately once a month and that depends on how sensitive you have the motion and recording settings or how often you access the cameras. They are also convenient to use as intercoms. We chose to add additional cameras to the system which were also very easy to add, simply press a button on the base and a button on the new cameras and you're good to go. Just make sure if you're using them as a security video recording system to set them up within the the "Mode" settings within the smartphone app to record. My favorite part of this system is the ease of being able to move the cameras wherever you want with the included half dome magnetic mounts, two included in the package. The cameras are light enough to double side tape to the walls instead of having to drill/mount, at least for inside mounting purposes. If we were going to put them outside, I feel screwing them in would be the best option. I would suggest mounting them somewhere that is easy to access because of having to dismount the cameras, simply pulling them off the magnetic mounts, to charge the batteries.

Under no circumstance should you buy these cameras

In fact quite the opposite. New firmware versions brought back old problems that had previously been fixed. The quality of the recordings suffered as a result, and Arlo Tech support became nothing more than a bunch of script readers, always blaming the customers for issues that Arlo themselves created. Now with this latest April 2020 firmware update, they have lowered the compression of cloud recordings from 1080, down to less than 400. The result is recordings that are so pixelated that these legacy systems are now useless as security devices. They didn't do this to any of their newer, paid subscription customers. The CEO himself has admitted, in a released statement, that they are moving towards "ending these legacy products"."..“While subscription conversion rates on our legacy business model hovered around 5%, early data indicates that the estimated subscription conversion rates for the new business model is around 50%, five zero and we're expecting a substantially lower churn rate. This order of magnitude increase in subscription attach rates will transform the business as Arlo continues to end of life legacy products that include free storage, and introduces new products that incorporate the new business model..."Buyer beware. These legacy systems are now useless, but still being sold.

Unreliable ‘Security’ Camera
26 January 2020

I will start off by saying these little cameras are pretty cool, and their adaptability to be placed nearly anywhere makes them appealing to many, including myself. I did a lot of research before purchasing a home security camera system, and ultimately landed on the Arlo Pro 2 cameras after a Geek Squad personal recommendation, plus the many great online reviews. I initially purchased the 4K Arlo Ultra system, as the upgrade in quality was worth the price in my opinion. However I returned them before unboxing as the required subscriptions didn’t make sense to me. With the Arlo Ultras, you have to buy the Arlo Smart Premier package for between $3-$15/month, and on top of that they will only store your 4K recordings in 1080p, you must pay another monthly fee for them ... MoreI will start off by saying these little cameras are pretty cool, and their adaptability to be placed nearly anywhere makes them appealing to many, including myself. With the Arlo Ultras, you have to buy the Arlo Smart Premier package for between $3-$15/month, and on top of that they will only store your 4K recordings in 1080p, you must pay another monthly fee for them to store them in 4K. This didn’t make sense to me which leads me back to the Arlo Pro 2 cameras. The quality is ok, but you get 7 days of cloud recording for free with no required subscription. After Geek Squad installed my cameras, one in my front yard and one in my backyard, I was initially pleased with the results. I set up activity zones and the cameras would send me notifications of activity on my iPhone. Pretty cool to see what happens outside my house late at night and when I’m not home. I will say the front camera picked up a little too much activity which drained the battery in about 10 days. This should be adjustable in the activity zone and sensitivity settings, but this is where I ran into problems. The cameras would start sporadically recording activity, and then just stop entirely. I researched online, and had Geek Squad troubleshoot for me. I unplugged, reset, and resynced everything multiple times over the course of several weeks. This worked once or twice, but then the cameras went 4 straight days without picking up anything, even when I stood right in front of them waving my arms. Everything was connected, synced, and I could see myself on the live camera feed. But nothing would record. After 4 weeks of trying everything to get these cameras to work, I ultimately returned them to Best Buy. My car could be stolen from my driveway 5 feet in front of the camera and it wouldn’t record. A Best Buy supervisor at the store when I made my return said she experienced similar reliability issues with her Arlos before returning them and purchasing the Nest Cam IQ. The unreliability of these Arlo ‘security’ cameras blew my mind, therefore I would advise against these cameras if you are really looking for a secure, reliable, home security camera system. I am going to look into a wired solution, which will require a more complicated installation than the battery powered Arlo’s, but I think that will be the most reliable. I hope this review helps others in their security camera search.

Very Well Thought Out Camera System
16 March 2019

Not intending to buy, I went nosing around the Ring systems at my local Best Buy because of their compelling TV commercial. I live in the country and feel vulnerable due to our remote, quiet, accessible location, so I've been interested in enhancing our home security system with cameras for some time, and felt that that "smart" video systems have matured to the point of finally being practical and reliable for home use. The Best Buy salesman did great job of enlightening me on the different systems they offer, and made me aware of the ineffective and inflexible camera-in-the-doorbell situation with some systems. The Best Buy salesman did great job of enlightening me on the different systems they offer, and made me aware of the ineffective and inflexible camera-in-the-doorbell situation with some systems. Better to have a full-featured "smart" door bell with good audio that is associated with a separate camera which can be optimally positioned, and not looking straight out at cars going by on the street - Made perfect sense to me. Because of the sale price, and the fact that I had $25 in Best Buy rewards burning a hole in my pocket I went home with the 2-camera Pro 2 system (I wanted the 1080P HD). NOTE: Keep a constant eye on what you buy from Best Buy on their website, because the same system was reduced in price TWICE in the next couple of weeks, and Best Buy honored the price both times with the appropriate refund! Once home and upon reading through the quick set-up guide, I thought - Could it be this easy?, and after a couple of days of putting it off, I found out to my relief and joy that....IT IS! One lesson learned was the mounts that I purchased for the cameras, all of which were mounted outdoors (Front door, back door and driveway - Yes, I bought a third camera shortly after I installed the first two - They went on sale too). Instead of buying the metal Arlo camera mounts at $20 each, I decided to go for the third-party (Wasserstein) mounts for $11/pair. You definitely get what you pay for! Cheap, lightweight plastic construction, and the fact that once you angle the camera in the mount, there is no way to tighten the mount once it's aimed, so you have to make sure that you have the camera positioned, aimed and tightened in the mount, and THEN drill the holes for mounting the mount, which is a bit difficult to do up on a ladder with only two hands. Also, if you ever want to access the power port on the camera (For charging the battery or AC power the camera), the tightening wheel on the mount blocks the port - You have to take the camera off the mount!.Wonderful set-up features available from my smart phone made camera configuring and sensitivity tuning very easy. Great analytics, object discrimination and masking features make the alert functions very useful. My non-techno wife found the system very simple to load on her phone and use, and even uses the system much more than I do. We discovered many non-security functions that we find extremely helpful and valuable to us - Such as the delivery guy with an important package at the door when my wife is all the way back in her home office, the neighbor's dog doing his thing in our yard while we're in bed, guests arriving in the driveway while we're getting ready for company, etc., etc. Night illumination is adequate at short distances, which is the field of view that we have tuned for the best resolution, face identification and elimination of unwanted transient background motion that we're not interested in seeing or recording. The one-week free cloud recording deal that comes with the system is nice, but with the "free month" plus $99/year Smart subscription which adds features and recording duration that I wanted, I went for the upgraded system support. CAUTION: If signing up for this you should just do the free month first and THEN pay for the full year if you want it when that expires, otherwise you'll get caught-up in Arlo's confusing check-out system, which apparently cannot be resolved if you make the mistake of going for the $99 deal up front like I did! Plus then you'll have the excruciating experience of trying to access their extremely confusing, misleading and worthless (obviously overseas based call-center) "support" line! That one experience gave me a good belly-full of their worthless support people (with very poor English!), and I'm glad the system set-up is extremely easy, intuitive and doesn't require their help. One other helpful item of note - I went online and downloaded the full user manual, which is very clear, concise, thorough and extremely helpful to get the most out of the Arlo Pro 2 system and all its features and functions. It's not a bad translation from Chinese like most manuals! So far after a bit over a month we love this system and will continue to tune and work with it as we live with it, and the season and sun position progress. One final note - make sure your Wi-Fi is strong and up to date to minimize latency for the video streaming "push" and recording. The cameras communicate with the base through it's own comms, but some minor conflicts and glitches with your wi-fi may occur.Great system! Highly recommended!!!

excellent camera system.

this is the second wireless Arlo camera system I've purchased. I have one with standard cameras and one with arlo pro-2 1080p cameras I highly recommend the arlo wireless camera systems. the system is easy to to setup, and easy to use. the cameras record good quality video day or night, (night video is black & white). it comes with a free app that is straight forward and includes a week's worth downloadable video storage. after 7 days it will start to delete the older videos to make room for the new ones. the app lets you use your phone to turn each camera on and off, view recorded footage, watch a live feed, check the battery status and even sound an alarm that is built into the base station. the cameras have rechargeable batteries and the charger and cord is ... Morethis is the second wireless Arlo camera system I've purchased. I also bought an optional mount that is a little more secure but hey, if someone swipes your camera at least you'll have a nice picture of them!
