Aroma 8-Cup Digital Rice Cooker and Food Steamer

This is supposed to cook rice and other grains, so I wanted steel cut oats. 1/2 of oats, just at 2 cups of water(with a tiny bit of milk mixed in). Used the rice setting. It bubbled pretty bad out of the vent holes and made a mess. Tried again with 1/4 of steel cut oats and just over 1 cup of water, brown rice setting. Same thing happened. Gummy water comes out vent holes, huge mess. Very disappointing!!

The performance of this rice cooker compelled me to write a review which I hardly do. Just after 3 weeks in use, it started malfunctioning! The rice wouldn’t cook even if it beeps as it’s supposed to when it’s done. Several times, I had to COOK it 3-5 times before I decided it’s enough and the rice would still be kind of dry at the top but with water at the bottom. Wanted to give it a chance and not return it because I had been using only AROMA rice cooker for like 2 decades and the last one I used before this one lasted for 9 years! Said good bye to it only because the cord had exposed wires, otherwise it was working properly. But this one, I would not recommend anyone to buy it. I was kinda afraid when I ordered because I do always read the reviews with 1 star before I buy anything just to know why some people doesn't like the product. Honestly I can't complaint about this, it's great for me. Size works perfect for 4 persons. I love the timer and the best thing is that it beeps when finish cooking the rice like the microwave! And on top of that it switch actually to keep it warm so there's no way that your rice won't come up good.

Don't do it!

It only worked correctly for barely over a year. After that it was a coin toss if it wouldn actually cooked the rice. I did my research and decided to give a 2nd one a try because you cannot have 2 that only works 1/2 the time, right? Nope, not true! I usually keep the box just in case this didn't work...big mistake. It only works a 1/4 of the time. Even worse than the first! I did try using the pot that was from the first one and it seems to actually cook the rice. So maybe if you have another pot you can chance buying it since it does look nice but other than that, spend a bit more ... Morewe cook rice a few times a week. Good machine, good price, with one caveat

Pros: the end result was some good rice, it was really easy to clean, you don’t have to sit around and “watch the pot”, it’s easy to use. Cons: the instructions in the box point out that the cup they give you is actually only 3/4 of a cup. I made 2 1/2 of their cups to try to come up with my usual 2 cups of rice, but it seemed like I got less than that amount. Frankly the pot was pretty full with that amount of rice. I am not understanding how I could ever get 8 cups of rice out of this even if I considered their 3/4 of a cup to be a cup of rice. Since I’m never going to want to make 8 cups of rice, this isn’t going to be a problem for me. I may be looking at something the wrong way here where amounts are concerned?? Haven't come across a better rice cooker

This rice cooker is an absolute gem. This is our forth one as they have ended up at relatives houses. The price is perfect and the versatility is unbeatable at 20-30 bucks. We cook black, white, brown, and wild rice in this. Also, I use it to cook beans and oats. I haven't used the veggie steamer yet. It's so easy to clean with a paper towel and soapy water.

Must have kitchen appliance!

I've been making rice on stove for years and finally decided to get a rice cooker. Oh man this is a game changer! It makes the Peeerrrrrfffect rice! Best rice I've ever eaten, even better than the ones I got at some of my fav. restaurant! It's compact and doesn't take much counter space. It's extremely easy to use with preset settings for making steamed rice, steam veggies, or heat things up. It can make soup, porridge and many other things in minutes! Oh it also looks very cute with this compact size. I'm soooo happy with this purchase. Just to clarify that I'm one person, so I got this size which is perfect for 1-2 people for regular use. For a family with kids, this would be a tab small. But for single or a couple, this is perfect.

OH YES- AND GRAB A COUPLE FOR HOLIDAY GIFTS TOO.

Whatever the material is, it's a good quality- because when you put it in the dishwasher, the outside of it doesn't discolor like the six previous rice cookers I bought! There's plenty of room to cook six cups of rice, and still steam a lovely meal for two. Besides, you have to admit it's cute as a button. Don't get a rice cooker where the steam rack is made out of some dubious aluminum garbage... I've probably owned 10 rice cookers in my life and never had that happen. Poor quality

Used to have an Aroma rice cooker that was a much larger version. It was wonderful and I used it frequently without issue. Bought this smaller one after I dropped the old one and it broke thinking I don’t need the larger size. This one does the job, but is not nearly the same quality. I have not had it long and the top plastic piece to latch the lid down has already broken. It has a small piece of plastic that I can still get to latch, but honestly don’t think it’ll last much longer. I have not been rough with it, it is just poor quality. Would not buy again.

Very Versatile Device.

I purchased this to cook a difficult grain, Emmer Farro! First attempt was very tasty but extremely chewy just like stove top and pressure cooker. Second attempt I used 1 to 6, grain to water ratio while first was 1 to 3. I think the ideal for this ancient grain will be 1 to 5. This simple machine is so versatile it can produce a huge array of fantastic food. Korean chefs will leave you amazed. Other models have more features but this little guy can still do it all.
