I tried it for the first time yesterday and followed their directions for brown rice, but it ran out of water and switched to “Keep Warm" before the rice was fully cooked. So tonight I added more water thinking that it would cook longer and soften the rice better but by the time it went to “Keep Warm” the rice was sticking to the bottom of the pan and still not fully cooked! I also tried steaming salmon for the recommended 13 minutes but it was just barely warm! I’m disappointed in the design, too. Where the bottom of the pot meets the sides, it is only barely rounded but a wider curve would allow for better heating and greater ease when scooping the rice out. And, although it seems handy to have handles on the steaming tray, the stainless steel gets too hot to use ... MoreI tried it for the first time yesterday and followed their directions for brown rice, but it ran out of water and switched to “Keep Warm" before the rice was fully cooked. And, although it seems handy to have handles on the steaming tray, the stainless steel gets too hot to use them anyway. It seems to be made of good quality metal, stainless steel and glass but I’m disappointed that I haven’t been able to get it to perform very well. Being a Zojirushi, I had high expectations but this one does not work as well as my Oster which I bought for less than half the price.

I never knew I needed this device. So simple, yet so important in my household. It has been working for a year now and it’s still going strong. It’s one of those set it and forget it devices. During the Texas Winter Storm, where we had no power for close to a week, this was a life saver. I was able to set this in the office of our old apartment and have hot food ready to eat. It also doesn’t take up space on the countertop, and never over or under cooks anything. I even make sushi rice on this and it comes out super delicious every-time!

I love the Zojirushi 3-Cup Rice Cooker. All I needed was a basic cooker, and this cooks my rice perfectly. Cleanup is a breeze - no more soaking a stainless steel sauce pot, and then scraping with a plastic scraper to clean the bottom. And no more boiling over the edge! The "click" of the cooker returning to "off" is loud enough to alert me so I can begin timing the last 15 minutes of the cooking cycle. I cook rice just for myself - usually one, but at the most two cups at a time.
I purchased this rice cooker on the recommendation of a friend. It arrived quickly. The rice cooker is so fast and easy to use. The instructions are simple. The rice turns out perfectly. It is easy to clean. My teenage son loves it and uses it weekly. He makes the white rice for our dinners and then uses the leftovers to make fried rice. Very happy with the quality and efficiency of this product. I would recommend it, as well.
I bought this rice cooker about a month ago from Bed Bath & Beyond. I was looking for a Japanese brand. The store did not have what I was looking for. A sales person checked on line and found the Zojirushi brand. It got delivered to the house in 24 hours. It is the exact size which I was looking for. I have been using the rice cooker from day one. I have no regrets for purchasing this particular one. The rice cooker is made of high quality material compared to the one I had in the past. It also has a reasonable size tray to steam vegetables or warm up leftover rice. The rice cooker comes with a measuring cup and a plastic spatula. Both are very useful. Follow the measuring guide and you can enjoy your rice well cooked and in the correct consistency. The smooth edged ... MoreI bought this rice cooker about a month ago from Bed Bath & Beyond. So how I got here, was for years and years I bought various rice cookers, and every single one of them burned the rice. It happened so consistently, across so many different styles and types of rice cookers, that for a long time I was convinced I was so bad at cooking, I couldn't even use a rice cooker without burning something. But I decided to look around one last time, but this time, I wanted to find a Japanese made rice cooker, because I knew Japanese would never tolerate rice being burnt. This is company I stumbled on, and this is the model I finally settled on. I have never been disappointed. This is a fantastic rice cooker for the price. Rice does not stick to the pan and the cleanup is super easy. The steamer tray is a great addition. We've often put beans or broccoli in and steamed them at the same time as cooking the rice. Turns out perfect every time.
I’m writing this review to address the two 1-star reviews. For the bad manual translation: it’s possible that ZOjirushi has modified the manual and mine is more up-to-date. That being said, I can tell it was translated because the use of some English words are slightly different from normal American usage, but it’s obvious what ZOjirushi means in the instructions. While technically speaking there is no “3” embossed in the pan there are markings for “2”, “4”, “6”, etc.For the clumped rice: the rinsing can be tedious and may take longer depending on the rice used, but it must be done until the water runs clear. A screen strainer with vigorous agitation is far more effective than using a bowl. if the starch dust isn’t rinsed away it gets kinda super heated and increases the heat capacity of the rice. The result of this is that rice will overcook and clump or even become porridge-like. The manual advises that results can vary based on age and quality of the rice and that some experimentation may be necessary.Important things to know:1) Rice cookers are labor-saving devices. They are NOT robot chefs - you have to pay a little attention to them.2) Using this one as an example: you’ll get better results making 8 cups than 2 or 4. It makes 10 just fine, but stirring/fluffing after cooking will be a little more difficult due to the volume.3) The pot must be flush down against the weight sensor in the center of the cooking unit.4) The “cup” included with this unit (and probably most others) is NOT a standard US cooking Cup. The one with this model is about 3/4 C (0.761 C to be exact). If you use a standard US cooking Cup results will not be wonderful. Just know this in the event you try to use a 1 C measure.I’m sorry this is so long. I generally only read negative reviews before buying something new in order to filter actual problems from whining. I attempted to address the problems I suspect some of the negative reviewers may have experienced based on unrealistic expectations and not knowing exactly what the strengths and limitations of rice cookers are. And, no, I don’t work for ZOjirushi, nor does anyone I know. :P
