Art XDirect - Professional Active Direct Box
The ART Xdirect is a high quality interface that lets you connect instrument, line, or speaker level signals to a mixer or other balanced input. The high impedance single-ended 1/4" and XLR inputs are buffered and converted, by very low noise active electronics, into an isolated balanced low impedance signal source. The Xdirect has an extremely flat and wide frequency response and can handle high signal levels while still maintaining an isolated balanced low impedance output. This gives the Xdirect a very clean and neutral sound with a wide variety of signal sources and over long signal runs in high noise environments. The Input Attenuator switches allow for a wide range of signal levels and the Input Link jack allows for tapping off of your signal chain. The Ground Lift switch lets you totally separate the input and output signal grounds, when appropriate, to isolate two systems, thereby reducing hum and ground-loop noise.

The ART ARTcessories Xdirect Professional Active Direct Box is a great concept with poor follow through. When they work they are a great value. The plastic jacks seem to break loose and then it becomes a pile of garbage. For the price I guess that is what you get. Good product. Bad plastic jacks.
This item cover all my needs withing my work.
I've owned Countryman and other active DI's. I've used this live and it carries the Bass fine as well as keys. It is lightweight and small which is always a plus for live work. I glued some soft pad on the bottom to help keep it in place. For the 99% of us, this unit is great, half the size of a Beringer and a quarter the weight. CON: If you plan to back over the DI with a truck, buy something else. The buttons are not recessed so when packing, be smart.
I haven't performed with it yet, but I know what to expect when I do. It seems like you have three categories of direct boxes. There is the dirt cheap, poorly made type, the USA-made, rock solid, extremely expensive type, and this middle-of-the-road choice which gives great sound, looks good, and does everything needed for a great price. Even when the fantastic ones went on a blowout sale, I saved about $70 by getting this one instead, and I bet I could not tell the difference tonally. I have some other Art boxes, and I'm thrilled with them. Nuff said!

I used this box to run my bass directly into a pa and got decent results, and for running an acoustic into a speaker system WOW! This is a nice little unit, and I plan to continue using it. God Bless
