Radial Pro48 Active Direct Box
High resolution active direct box Increased dynamic range and headroom 48V phantom powered with digital switching Compact, rugged book end design Ideal for active guitars and b High-performance 48V phantom-powered active direct box designed for higher output instruments. It's digital switching power supply significantly increases headroom and allows for less distortion while yielding a smooth, linear response. Its wide bandwidth (20Hz to over 100kHz) results in natural, uncolored signal transfer. Has 15dB pad. The Radial Pro48's innovative digital switching power supply significantly increases headroom and allows for less distortion while yielding a smooth, linear response extending from 20Hz to well above 100kHz resulting in natural, uncolored signal transfer. This superior performance makes the Pro48 an ideal candidate for use with today's battery-powered active b and acoustic guitars that tend to overload other direct boxes. The compact Pro48 is built road-ready with 14-gauge steel in a unique bookend design that provides protective zones around the switches and connectors. The internal welded I-beam construction assures outside stress will not torque the PC board thus assuring longer product life. Pro48 - typical applications The Pro48 is designed for high-use applications wherever an active direct box is called for. A 15dB pad switch is provided to tame hot signal and expands the range of instrument preamps and the ground lift switch helps eliminate hum and buzz problems caused by ground loops.

As a keyboard player, I've shied away from active DIs for many years - they require power and can easily be overloaded with a hot board or synth. But I tried the Pro48 on a keyboard with unusually low output that just didn't have enough juice to drive my ProD2. Not the usual use case for an active DI, but I didn't want to deal with a preamp when playing live, and I didn't want anything that required external power (the venues we play often have pretty sketchy wiring, and line noise can be a problem). Boy, this thing was a prayer answered - no fussy features, built like a tank, and brought my quiet keyboard right up to the same level as everything else in the band. I love the way keys sound through the ProD2, so I was hyper critical of what the Pro48 would do ... MoreAs a keyboard player, I've shied away from active DIs for many years - they require power and can easily be overloaded with a hot board or synth. I love the way keys sound through the ProD2, so I was hyper critical of what the Pro48 would do tone-wise. The answer is NOTHING - it's even more transparent than the ProD2. Lows are full and articulate, highs ring out without sounding brittle, and the signal output from low to high is as flat as a pancake. I have yet to overload it - and I haven't even touched the -15db pad. This is now the most boring but essential piece of musical equipment I own! I would be willing to try this with any instrument - my phobia is cured. Thanks Radial!

Sound:I bought both a Radial passive DI and an active DI at the same time. The passive one has a Jensen transformer, model JDI; and the active model was the Pro48. At home, the active one sound more transparent in the mids than the passive one with the Jensen transformer. On the stage on my first use, the active one Pro48 was to me obviously clearer and pretty much a revelation. Like wow, what do we have here. On the other hand, the passive model (which cost about $200 versus about $140 for the active one) was good but not "special". I think I'll use the passive one if I get an input thats too hot. And, in the future, I'm going to only buy the Pro48 or maybe the more expensive active model, the J48, that is supposed to have more features but the same sound. My ... MoreSound:I bought both a Radial passive DI and an active DI at the same time. The Pro48 sounded better than the guitarists preamp rig (a higher priced floor preamp specifically for acoustic guitars). The guitarist's rig sucked life from the sound when compared to plugging straight into the Pro48. So he plugged straight in and sounded big and full and detailed. Really a nice sound considering its from a DI on a stage. So for sound, I'm giving it a 10 but maybe there is something out there that is better but I haven't heard it. of course, I haven't heard the really pricey DI's. On the other hand, I own a couple of focusrite ISA428's that have guitar inputs with Lundhal transformers (that I've used in a studio) but again to me, the ISA428's DI sound good but not "special" in terms of transparency and detail. I would definitely use the Pro48 and would not even consider the ISA428 on acoustic steel string guitar; even in a studio.Features:Has pad and ground lift but no high pass filter. Pretty basic.Ease of Use:Just have to be careful plugging in and out cause there is a loud pop. No loud pop on the passive one.Quality:Heavy steel. Road worthy.Manufacturer Support:Haven't use it. Good videos on Youtube help me select this product.Overall:I give it a 9 because who knows, there might be something else out there that is better that I haven't tried. I expect this product to last a very, very long time. I'll buy more of this or maybe the more expensive model, the J48, In fact, unless something changes, I might only buy this DI from now on.

A solidly built box from the guys at Radial. Delivers accurate representation of my instruments in to my DAW. Phantom power keeps me from having to keep buying batteiries and the -15db pad is a must for plugging straight in to my interface. It's nothing fancy but does exactly what I needed it to do. If you're looking for a good active DI I highly suggest the PRO48.
The product was great. The Pro48 Active Direct Box met my expectations. The sound was fantastic and I thank Sam Ash for this recommendation. It was a great investment. Thank you
The only way to get a clear, loud, true signal from your guitar or bass to your recording rig. I use this Radial PRo48 for my guitars and bass. (Some are active, some are not.) This works with all the combinations thanks to the -15pad. No noise, high quality internal parts, and built like a tank! If you are recording without one, yo have no idea what you are missing. Get one!
Very nice. Had a Behringer DI for years, but realized it was adding heaps of noise to my guitar signal. Thought about trying one of the many DIs at in-between prices, but since I really need low noise went straight for this. Perfect. Not only low noise, but the guitar sounds completely different. Full bodied, no mud.
Radial DI’s are a quality product in general. The Pro48 is no different, built to last and deliver superior sound.
The box is super simple to use and does not have all the extra switches common on other direct boxes. I was very impressed with the build quality when it arrived. Been using it to run an electric guitar straight into a mixer then into a PA system. The signal is strong and clean without any hums or hiss. It does require phantom power to run and it has a little indicator light to show that it is receiving power. Unlike most active DIs, the ground does not need to be lifted to use phantom. Great active DI thats worth the little extra over the cheap ones.
I'm a long-time fan of Radial's products. They are top-notch, well-engineered, and dependable. I read about the Pro48 when I was looking for an active DI, but the J48 was just a little out of reach for my budget. The Pro48 is the guts of the J48, minus the pretty silk-screening, the stereo-mono merge function, the polarity switch, and the low-pass filter. So, it's basically the same functionality as all the other active DI's out there, but with the engineering and reliability of Radial. I'm not sure what else to say? It's a wonderful DI, especially at this price point. You won't be disappointed!
