Radial ProD2 Stereo Direct Box
Comes from the brand Radial Engineering Compact construction Sleek design Seamless functionality A high-quality, passive direct box that uses 2 proprietary custom-made transformers, one for each channel, for both impedance conversion and isolation. Linear from 20Hz-18kHz, with low distortion and virtually zero phase distortion makes it perfect for live or studio performances. Because of the transformer isolation, problems such as hum and buzz caused by ground loops are eliminated, making it very easy and hassle-free to use. Features include 1/4 thru/input, -15dB pad, and ground lift protected from damage by a protective front panel. Heavy-duty construction, baked enamel finish, and 600ohm balanced output. Really pleased with this. I should have bought one ages ago to run my SPD-SX to the main mixing desk and with a separate throughput to my own monitor mix. Glad I went for the slightly more expensive but highly rated Radial. Cannot really comment on cheaper versions as, clearly, I bought this one. But it is solid and feels robust as well as functioning well.

I'll focus my comments on how I use the ProD2 with my stereo keyboard. Let me start by saying that this unit does exactly what it's supposed to do: convert hi-z signals to low-z and send it to the board. The sound is clean, hum-free, and linear with respect to both volume and frequency. I love the thru-channels as a "bonus" feature for stage or studio monitors - very useful. Oh, and I think I could drive my car over it and do no damage. I've never used a DI box that can boast of all this things, so that immediately sets this unit apart. In various reviews, I've heard this unit described as "warm" and able to take the "digital edge" out of signals. In other places, it's been described as "transparent" and having no impact on your tone. With my keyboard, I can say that the ProD2 does impact your tone, and most of the time this is a very positive thing. In an A/B test with a hi-z cable straight into the board, this unit does "warm up" the signal in some ways - I really liked the effect it had on my electric piano and organ patches, making them less harsh and fuller-sounding. It also allowed me to bring back a bright piano patch that was otherwise unusable for sounding too brittle. The downside to this is that the ProD2 made a mellow grand piano patch (one of my favorites) even darker, which was particularly problematic during live shows.I also need to mention how and when this unit distorts - another pro, in my opinion. As a keyboard player, I'm incredibly biased against using active DIs because it doesn't take much to overload them and get some nasty distortion. I'm happy to say that when this unit is driven hard, the signal saturates and breaks apart much more naturally, without any harsh clipping. This is actually a great effect for my EP and organ patches! The high frequencies seem to fuzz out first, while the low end stays tight even under load. All in all, a fantastic unit that may be right for your needs. Just be aware that it will color your tone somewhat.

There is not a whole lot to say thats bad about this box.. I guess if i could even dig to find something bad it would be more of a preference.. Theres a soft foam like material on the bottom side for grip.. I would probably prefer a hard grippy rubber bottom for durability but other than that this thing SHINES! I plugged it into a basic Behringer Mixer direct into a pc and was pretty amazed with the clarity of the guitar. I have used cheaper di boxes with less than perfect results before and this is nothing like that experience.. I love that it has a -15 db pad.. one of the best features imo. Some guitars just have more input volume than others this fixes that! Not to mention that this thing is quite the solidly built box... If you can afford it, sure, get the JDI Duplex with the Jensen transformers, but this model is a workhorse for live gigs for me. Both are well constructed. Personally, I prefer passive transformer DIs for live gigs - they're more reliable and less problematic. There are more things that can go wrong in using a 48V Direct box - some of which produce very loud pops. You can't kill these transformer equipped ones.
Superb quality DI box. At the first gig I was given a Behringer DI by the engineer. Couldn't get much level out of it and electrical interference was audible. Maybe it was faulty? Plugged in the Radial and got really clear great sound with no him or noise. So glad I've got this.
I have purchased two Stereo DIs for worship. I use one for my electric pedal board and another for my keys. You have separate channels to make your delay and tremolo sound spacious for your guitar. We hard pan the piano from the pad in the keyboard layer. Wow! You also get Passthrus for your amps.
Connects a stereo component or two independent components directly to your mixing board with a thru circuit to send the signal to your amps as well. The ground lift and 15 dB pads make the unit very flexible. Also, a space saver!
Overall:Received the device today. What a difference in sound quality! So clear! Am using the box on a Casio PX-560 and into a Behringer 1832 USB. Sound was great before- BUT now it sounds so much better. Am extremely pleased to say the least. And the potential for "hum" and ground loops is over. I did not have to anything other than set up the box with cables and bring up the sound. PERFECT! If your a keyboard player you have to try this device out. Plus it's built like a tank, high quality!
I have zero noise on my board, partly due to his well-built product. I like having the stereo version, allows me to run two guitars into the PA with one DI and one xlr port. Sounds great. Look forward to doing a stereo set up at some point as well.
I've used it only at home and rehearsal. It's substantial and seemingly indestructible. There's a non-slip pad on the bottom that I think is a nice touch. The two channels are convenient for my stereo keyboard. Based on my limited use, it performs well sonically. I look forward to taking it on stage.
