Radial ProAV2 Passive Stereo Multimedia Di Box

$150.00

(38 reviews)

The Radial ProAV1 and ProAV2 are passive direct boxes specifically developed with the audio-video integrator in mind. The ProAV1 features a variety of stereo inputs that are summed mono via a resistive mixer, greatly simplifying signal management. The ProAV2 delivers two discrete channels where full stereo functionality is required. To eliminate the need for various adaptors, both units are equipped with a 'Swiss Army' array of connectivity options including 1/4" inputs for instruments, RCA and 3.5mm (1/8") connectors for CD players, iPods, video decks and computers. The ProAV1 also features a female XLR input for interfacing equipment with +4dB professional signal levels. The front panel connectors can also be used as thru-puts to allow multiple patch points. Custom wound Eclipse ET-DB2 transformers are able to withstand exceptionally hot signal levels while maintaining linearity from 20Hz to 20kHz. The resulting smooth Bessel curve is warm and natural, making them particularly adept at handling digital sources that can sound harsh. Transformer isolation further benefits by eliminating hum and buzz caused by ground loops or DC offset problems. These features combine to make the ProAV1 and ProAV2 'must have' problem solvers for the audio-visual technician's tool kit.

A great dual Di box.

This is a great dual DI box . It has input jacks for the three most used audio cables and has added attenuation if needed. This is the only dual Di box you will ever need for 2 channel line level input to a mixer.

A solid solution

In the studio environment, I've come to depend on several other Radial DI's - the SGI, the JDI Duplex, and the J33 to transfer vinyl to CD. All are rock solid and the ProAV2 is no exception.

If you have spent any amount of time working in a professional audio environment, you have likely run into all of the usual (industry standard) suspects when it comes to direct boxes. I personally favored whirlwind boxes for most everything and until recently was completely satisfied with the PCDi (specifically) for A/V integration, carrying two in my personal kit. While the whirlwind boxes work very well, the lack of a 1/4 input excluded them from easily being used for regular DI work (guitars, keys etc.) and with an increasing demand for me to travel light (single pelican case on most jobs) having a Box that is more flexible means that I can free up space in my kit for other items. Physically, they are built logically and with absolute top quality components... The recessed controls are a big improvement over my whirlwind boxes alone. I will continue to buy Radial from now on, the big duplex model is next on my list of uber flexible boxes that are a must have for a traveling audio pro.

Great DI, NO STEREO --> MONO SUMMING
13 February 2014

Radial products are great, and this is no exception. I bought this specifically to connect my iPad to snakes. It works just as it should. As a plus, it can also function as two mono DI's.NOTE: This has no "built-in stereo to mono merge function". Musician's Friend advertises this on their website, and told me over chat that this function exists. It does not. I just ran it though some tests, and there is no way to sum two mono input signals into a single XLR mono out. I even double-checked by contacting Radial, and they confirmed that is not a feature of this DI. Radial makes other DI's that have this feature, but it's not included with this product. I still give this 5 stars, because the error is on the part of Musician's Friend, not Radial.

Handle almost any problem with this
10 February 2014

I think I could plug a toaster in and get good audio out... seriously, I shoot in Churches, hotels and other locations where I have to or need to tap into the soundboard I find. Sometimes I get lucky and it's easy, sometimes the only thing is a phono plug out that's hot as heck. On occasion there is a ground loop that's has to be fixed. If you have this little box, you've got that converted, covered and fixed. Built like a tank, this thing is not delicate, you can drive a nail with it so it'll stand up to a lot of abuse with no problem. If you have to deal with a lot of different inputs and outputs, this packs most conversion solutions into one box and lets you tap in for mono or stereo ouptut.

I will always choose this product

Great tool used for with multiple functions. Need to split a signal? Done. Want to take a mono signal and make it stereo? Done. Want to play music from a device into a sound system? Done. Need a DI for your Mac to play through when using a midi keyboard? Done. Awesome piece of equipment to have around!

Immediately got rid of buzz
8 May 2020

I’ve been using Radial for almost 20 years and I can’t say my boxes have ever failed.I bought two of these AV2 boxes to see if their circuitry would get rid of a buzzing noise I’ve been having for months now in my home A/V studio. I connect line outs from my sound console to my main DSLR and always would always get undesired noise. The boxes immediately solved the issue. You MUST get these if you’re experiencing similar issues. Radial always prevails.

After dealing with some buzzing issues under similar but different circumstances, this ProAV2 unit was recommended. The result? It just works, plain and simple. Be sure to plan for the fact that although it will accept ¼, RCA, and ⅛ in, only XLR goes out. It is solid and well designed for durability. I fully expect to have this unit provide dependable service for year to come. I'm glad it was recommended to me and I'm recommending it to you.

The first DI you'll grab
14 July 2013

Well maybe the second. For most DI applications users are looking to convert either a mono or stereo unbalanced line level source to a mono balanced line level output. But if you tying into a bigger system with multi-channel output then this is your DI. It features stereo RCA inputs, a 3.5mm (1/8 stereo) input, and a pair of mono 1/4 TS inputs. So no matter what your stereo audio source is, this should be able to safely convert it to a balanced stereo output. Basically where most DIs have a single transformer inside to a single XLR output, this has two transformers to two XLR outputs. That's it in a nutshell. Of course this only works if you have two channels of audio input. As for the mechanics, this is a passive DI which means it requires no power to operate. But ... MoreWell maybe the second. Basically where most DIs have a single transformer inside to a single XLR output, this has two transformers to two XLR outputs. That's it in a nutshell. Of course this only works if you have two channels of audio input. As for the mechanics, this is a passive DI which means it requires no power to operate. But even better than that is the fact that like all DIs this also creates an isolation point for systems so that noise and dangerous electrical transients aren't able to bridge from on side of the box to the other. This protects the gear on both ends of the box. Some people believe (incorrectly) that you don't need a DI to tie unbalanced signals into a balanced XLR input. However believe it or not there is a risk to the PA pre-amps by simply feeding unbalanced loads into them. As much as it would hurt to loose a guitar or the audio circuitry on your laptop. What would hurt more is a bill for a hundreds or even thousands of dollars from an angry hall after you toast a channel on their pre-amp. I use mine for multimedia presentations. 90% of the time I'm using mono system installations. However larger rooms and bigger systems can sound flat with only a mono mix audio so I decided to buy a stereo box for those occasions where it might be better suited.
