This product is very good value for anyone with a lot of cds or dvds but the flat pack instructions pretty much instruct you to destroy the unit. Step 5 in particular tells you to turn the cd shelf face down and hammer a board to the back. Seems straightforward except there's a protruding base that snaps the 2 sections apart as soon as the first tack is nailed in breaking the chip board around the studs. I highly recommend turning the shelf sideways and hammer in with the shelf vertical.

I purchased 3 of these approx 4 months ago and they have been amazing. Each rack holds between 500 and 528 dvd/bluray/4kI found them very easy to put together and required no assistance putting them together.Ive noticed previous reviews have commented on the difficulty putting these together. If you follow the instructions and use your brains they pose no issue at all putting together. If you cant, well you'd be about as sharp as a marble

My product rating of 3 Stars overall is based on the following criteria - Functionality, Quality and Customer Service and was arrived as follows5 Stars - Functionality of the unit is excellent ... easily accommodates my 650+ CD and DVD library, the unit looks great and the ability to adjust shelf height is a bonus.2 Stars - Quality and Instructions ... the unit MUST be supported in the middle when the back is being put on or it will snap at the join between the top and bottom sections. The top and bottom are joined by metal pins screwed into chipboard and if the middle is not supported while attaching the back and elevating the front of the top as per the instructions, the weight of the unit and downward pressure of driving the nails causes these pins to be ... MoreMy product rating of 3 Stars overall is based on the following criteria - Functionality, Quality and Customer Service and was arrived as follows5 Stars - Functionality of the unit is excellent ... easily accommodates my 650+ CD and DVD library, the unit looks great and the ability to adjust shelf height is a bonus.2 Stars - Quality and Instructions ... the unit MUST be supported in the middle when the back is being put on or it will snap at the join between the top and bottom sections. I contacted Bunnings to let them know that our unit had collapsed at the join between the top and bottom sections and they dispatched a replacement section within days and their Customer Service could not be faulted.Overall this is a great unit and I'd be prepared to pay twice the asking price if this storage rack was made of solid wood.

The Artisse CD Storage Unit is delivered as as two flatpacks packed in 2 heavy cardboard boxes. The assembly instructions were adequate and but they must be read carefully before proceeding to assemble the Storage Rack. Forewarned by comments we had read on the web we purchased extra plywood sheets cut to measure to supplement those supplied with the flatpack. These were nailed to the rear of the unit by way of additional reinforcement. We also purchased some 'Liquid Nails' wood working glue to help strength the unit which we applied to the unit structure everywhere we could as we assembled it. We inserted extra wood screws to the top and bottom parts of the unit to beef it up and which could not be seen from the front on final assembly. The two halves go together well but the weak area is the mid section where the two halves join together. After allowing the glue 24 hours to dry, we raised the Storage Rack into a vertical position and coaxed it against the wall to which we fastened it . We used wood screws to do this , which were screwed into predetermined holes predrilled where we knew the wood screws would screw through the reinforced plywood backing into the wooden bearers to which the gyprock or wall lining was attached. At this stage we felt the Storage Rack was robust enough to be loaded with nearly 700 CDs and 50 DVDs. As it is designed to take 1116 CDs, we still have room to spare. It now looks quite smart and we are confident that it should last the years given that it was built using a Chinese flat pack kit albeit with as much extra strengthening as we could give it. Up against the wall it occupies very little space and is quite compact.
I've been looking for the perfect solution to house CD's, DVD's and Videos. I've tried everything and while other products work to a certain extent (60 CD cabinets, drawers, bookshelves), they're either too flimsy (drawers), CD cabinets take up double the room and bookshelves are too deep. Not to mention if they're in drawers it's hard to find what you're looking for. While most cabinets cater for either/or CD's/DVDs, these units you can store a combination of CD's, DVDs or Videos (yes I still have some videos). While these aren't perfect out of the box, they're very close for my needs and easy to assemble. As there's enough shelves to do a full CD cabinet, you could do this. Or leave some out and space for DVD's. The only issue doing this is you'll have two shelves ... MoreI've been looking for the perfect solution to house CD's, DVD's and Videos. The only issue doing this is you'll have two shelves that are bigger than need be (one in top half, one in bottom half). The solution if you're handy is to make a hole drilling jig that is exactly half way between the shelve holes. Then from whichever end you want (I put my CDs in the centre of the cabinet), drill an extra hole inbetween to create two CD shelves (2 top, 2 bottom). All the rest of the holes are spaced perfectly (the CD's are a little tight to get out, but just leave one CD out at the end and it's fine - see the attached photos). Use a jig, as you'll never line the hole up manually to drill! The actual storage capacity is a little off. Yes it will hold a very snug 1116 CD's, however only 504 DVDs (unless you store some sideways. With the mods I did above, each cabinet for me will hold a combination of 348 CDs & 378 DVDs at the same time. The units themselves come in two boxes with full instructions (although a little hard to read), hardware and enough shelves to make a full CD storage cabinet. If you're only doing DVD's, then you'll have excess shelves and hardware pins. Unfortunately, you have to open both boxes as one piece from the second box needs to be used to assemble the first box (duh)! Assembling is quite quick - It took about an hour for each cabinet. Place a 2x4 under to support the top part when putting the top and bottoms together, tighten the top and bottom assemblies together, square up and nail the backs on. Be careful when assembling them as they're a little flimsy until you've nailed the back on. If you drag them across carpet in this state you're likely to snap the mounting points between the carcase. As they're only a slim unit (the base is large), it's recommended to attach with the included hardware to a wall to stop the cabinet falling over. As for price, I got them on sale and considering it was freighted, wasn't too bad. I added up building something similar and the price for the material itself wasn't far off this price. Plus the hours of stuffing around cutting, drilling etc. Overall I'm happy with the unit and considering buying another for the overflow! Pro's: + Versatile storage and easily customisable to hold CDs, DVDs or Videos (or packs) + Easy to move around + Slim body (perfect size for DVD/CD) + Easy solution to find what you're after + Easy solution when adding new media (just shuffle along) + Cabinet's higher than most Con's: A few things I'm not real keen on is - The base board should be rounded (I can see some toes getting stumped if you have it in a hallway) - Don't like that the base sits flush with the floor (should be up 50-70mm to stop dust accumulating on the bottom items) - Cabinet can be a bit flimsy until assembled - One piece for top unit is included in the second box (containing shelves) - Doesn't hold specified DVD's unless you stack side-wards as well (actual DVD capacity is 504) - Some slightly taller videos won't fit
Perfect for what we required, as it wasn't being used for CDs or DVDs - but a pop vinyl collection. The shelves can be put into different levels to create a great look. We are happy with the purchase of 2. We took our time to put them together. Definitely dont rush, and dont put the base on as suggested in the instructions. Put the shelving unit together, then the backing board (before the base) leaving the last flap of the backing board at the bottom loose. Put the shelving unit on it's side, then attach the base and finally finish attaching the backing board at the bottom. Carefully standing it up.
For it's price this is a reasonable display shelf. After reading some reviews regarding assembly I approached with caution. Yes, the instructions suggest finding a piece of wood the same size to lay it face down on to attach the (flimsy) back BUT as long as your floor is flat there is an alternative - assemble the main frame (top, bottom and vertical pieces) of the shelf, turn it on its side and then attach the back. That's what worked for me. Before I stood it up, I gently lay it on its back to distribute the weight across the width and hey presto! The inner shelving was easy to install. Nothing broke and it looks good. It accommodates every different Digipack CD I have.
I installed this CD shelf. it looks nice and has good capacity. However structurally it is like two bookshelves joined vertically one on top of the other. The two sections are joined with flimsy plywood join connectors popular with flat-pack stuff. Definitely requires secure fixing to wall both top and bottom.
I bought 3 of these as I have so many CDs. As a way of getting them out of the boxes they've been stored in and on display, these shelves are great. If you're looking for decent quality gear though, look elsewhere. Some of the holes were so small that the shelf supports wouldn't go in. One of the main wooden support pieces was broken but I couldn't be bothered with the drama of trying to get it replaced, so I did the best I could with it. Also, for some inexplicable reason, they held onto two of the shelves and wouldn't release them until I "confirmed the order" - even though one had been delivered and I'd paid for all three. Bonkers.
It looks really good when built - however the item itself isn't amazing. A little flimsy and poor quality control. One of the centre vertical walls that the shelfs are meant to attach too was missing holes down one side (so the box had one too many exterior walls and one to few interior). We ended up drilling the holes for the shelf supports rather than sending back and waiting for a new piece to be sent out. Also as mentioned in other reviews the middle section is prone to breaking if you build the way the instructions dictate; I went into the build aware and still had issues. Overall does the job, but not really the quality I was expecting.
