Unstable Unicorns is a strategic card game for 2-8 players from Unstable Games in which players have to build their own unicorn army. So the game is about everyone's favorite things: unicorns and destruction. Each player starts with a baby unicorn in the stable. But players shouldn't get used to it too much because not even the baby unicorns are safe in this game. There are over 20 magical unicorns to collect, each with their own special abilities. Players must build their armies as quickly as possible or face destruction. It is important to protect your own stable with magic. Just doesn't sound that fast! Only the one who sets up his army first can call himself the rightful ruler of all things magical, at least until the next game.

Took forever to open these. Glue all over the boxes from a bad plastic wrap. One deck had so much glue it went through to box and on to the cards and they were all stuck together. Some cards had been cut uneven so they had white trim around the edges. Others already had tears around the edges from poor quality. Even the ones that were cut correctly look bad, as the edges are all frayed and white. I've purchased these before directly from the company and they are not like this. These are 100% bootlegs.

This game was easier to teach to a few 8 year olds than to adults that were overthinking it. For the most part, you follow the directions on your cards and your cards change the game. The cards have cute photos and great flavor text. It can get ruthless depending on who you are playing with.

This game is one of many games coming out recently, card games with fun artwork based off of Exploding Kittens. It even takes some card ideas, like the "neigh"/"nope" card to negate an action. It is probably the most complicated card game I've played, not only because the rules themselves are a little complex, but every card has its own actions, sometimes adding together into quite complicated turns. Next, in Exploding Kittens, Nope cards are fun and pretty well balanced, however, more of a good thing isn't always fun, because this game I think has far too many Neigh cards. Because really the only way to win is with an action anyone can place a Neigh card on, I've played indefinite games because no one can make that last action, and we had to remove all neigh cards. ... MoreThis game is one of many games coming out recently, card games with fun artwork based off of Exploding Kittens. This is a fun game. I love the drawings. They are so cute. I wish some of the writing on the cards wasn't quite so small. One main rule wasn't written but it became obvious as I played. You can't put your unicorns directly from your hand to your stable. This causes you to strategize a bit. It can be fun with 2 players or more. The more they merrier I imagine. I have only played with 2. The game came new, unopened. You want to be the first to get the most unicorns. You have to keep others from getting unicorns. There are narwhals too. Unicorns of the sea. The cards are color coded for type and have instructions written on the bottom of the card. Wield magic to help yourself and hurt other's chances of winning. It says 14+ ages but I bet 11+ kids can play just fine. ... MoreThis is a fun game. I love the drawings. They are so cute. I wish some of the writing on the cards wasn't quite so small. Cards are plastic but not as durable as Bicycle cards. Easy to learn.
The people out there complaining that this game is hard to learn make me laugh. For all you Magic the Gathering players, I can teach you how to play this game in 3 sentences: There's one deck that everyone shares. There's only Instant, Sorcery, and Land cards. The first player to get to 7 Lands wins and the instant and Sorcery card just effect the them. For everyone else that has never played magic, the game provided you with a cheat card that states definitions for terminology of the cards. For magic players, its all the same stuff; sacrifice, destroy, discard, draw and control. There's two versions of the game. The "Normal" one, which is NSFW 21+ only due to many, many sex related jokes. The other one, or safe one, is aimed at 14+. It was never meant for ... MoreThe people out there complaining that this game is hard to learn make me laugh. There’s a lot of people claiming to not understand this game even though they possess a college education…now I won’t get into the particulars of how that’s not a very helpful statement considering the education system in the USA but I will say that by the end of one game my 7 year old was able to grasp the how tos as were the rest of our family and we had a BLAST. Sure we had to reference the rules and kind of question what the heck was going on those first few rounds but once you get it and you have that aha moment it’s ON..play that neigh card, destroy, sacrifice, strategize but don’t you dare touch my baby. You can do this. I promise it’s worth it. Don’t overthink it..go ahead and wing it if you aren’t sure..just HAVE FUN!
Recently some cousins of mine came over to my house so my family and I could play this game, and when I tell you it blasted my expectations I'm not lying. It is so simple to understand, so portable and so much fun. The creativity of the cards and the unique abilities can only be matched by Exploding Kittens, but barely! So much fun, very kid-friendly and there are actually a variety of expansion packs available for it as well from certain retailers, including an NSFW pack, which I fully intend of getting. Big ups to this Kickstarter campaign, fantastic idea!
Initially I thought this would be okay for my family (as we LOVE Exploding Kittens). I watched a few videos to get a handle on how to play. There were a number of references to spells and sacrifices. Then I read in the 2 player rules section that there's a Sadistic Ritual card and I stopped there, packed it up, and returned it. Just not the direction we want to go for family game night. The cards also include "seductive" and "necromancer" unicorns. This is the original/plain version - not the NSFW version. So I can't imagine what would be included in the NSFW version.
Bought this to play Christmas Day. Even YouTube videos didn't help us understand the rules and I don't want to create "house rules" or "wing it." My 12-year-old daughter loved the baby unicorn cards but then quickly left the table when we tried to play this. Do not recommend.
