The third entry in the Assassin's Creed series is basically just a rehash of the previous two, but with the revolutionary war spin and some distractions baked into the gameplay. They added a sea battle mode where you command a late 18th century ship, complete with sails and cannons, and drive it around the eastern seaboard. Unfortunately, I don't think it was very successful. The game's story itself is a bit dull, but if you're looking to complete the trilogy, it might be worth checking out. The game also suffers from an overlong story. Without giving too much away, you begin as one character and eventually switch to a different one. The buildup of the first is far too long and leaves you bored by the time you start the second. Am really enjoying the free roaming aspect of game. Keeps you gripped from taking over forts, to hunting wild animals and travelling roof top to roof top to find a treasure or lost collectable. Plus having guards come and chase you is great! This port has alot of flaws however! In docked mode especially, you notice the dialogue sounds of characters is hit and miss at best. The graphics is pretty poor too. For best experience have to play this in hand held mode, which is very disappointing. But a very good game despite this. Hope future assassin's creed ports to switch are better than this one! I feel 3 stars maybe a little harsh. And 4 stars is abit too generous.. Would of said 3 and half but can't do half a star ;-)

Bought this for myself when Dad steals the Switch from the kids. Growing up playing first person shooters storylines, this was the only thing I could find that was close. Little slow on the action, but good for killing time when the kids go to bed.

This has to be the worst remake I have ever played. This being a game I almost played to completion in the original. I can say that they didn't fix any of the small problems, like jump accuracy or double shooting, and with their treating of map textures exponentially leads to larger problems. For instance phantom rocks that existed in the first game but were not coded out for their retextured counterparts making your horse, or player stick to certain part of the free roam areas during timed missions or simply avoiding a wolf attack. I can say that the texturing of this 8 year old game should be better as well. But the part of the remake that really gets me right now is the assault of bunker hill level. I can say that the texturing of this 8 year old game should be better as well. But the part of the remake that really gets me right now is the assault of bunker hill level. The retexturing is causing my assassin to randomly climb up the ship or jump on it where there again was no viable handholds that probably existed in the original but not coded out, making him pop up in a stealth mission, thus making you have to restart in order to get fully synched (best outcome) or simply falling off randomly when a cannon shot happens or better yet an AI that seems to hear a pin drop when you do air assassination's as another requirement, during of all things a cannon volley. That being said it has a lot of value bringing the season pass I have yet to play and another coinciding title that again haven't played. I just wish I wasn't stuck for the past two hours trying to kill the same ten or so people because the level redesigns are hindering the game that much.

If you care about product support, AVOID
1 January 2013

Ubisoft Support are literally the single worst support service I've had to try and deal with in the past 30 years. If you buy Ubisoft products, and anything - anything at all - goes wrong, expect at least 3 times their estimated response time before you see any reply. When (or if) you hear back, it's unlikely that their first 3 months' worth of responses will actually include even a single sentence that relates directly to what you asked. Keep pushing, and even if you get "that's a known issue, we're working on it" there's not much chance that anything will ever be done about the problem. This particular game isn't totally horrible (unless you care about the multiplayer, which is broken), but rather than merely not recommending the purchase of Ubisoft products, ... MoreUbisoft Support are literally the single worst support service I've had to try and deal with in the past 30 years. If you buy Ubisoft products, and anything - anything at all - goes wrong, expect at least 3 times their estimated response time before you see any reply. Keep pushing, and even if you get "that's a known issue, we're working on it" there's not much chance that anything will ever be done about the problem. This particular game isn't totally horrible (unless you care about the multiplayer, which is broken), but rather than merely not recommending the purchase of Ubisoft products, I'd specifically advise people to avoid anything from the company. If you find a problem, trying to get a solution probably won't be worth your trouble. Also, while the gameplay is good, there are still bugs in the game engine - most of them carried over direct from the previous games. More content AND less bugs should be expected in a 5th installment (counting the two AC2 spin-off games), but that isn't the case here. It's particularly puzzling when you consider this game has supposedly been in development for 3 years, and is built on a "new" game engine (it doesn't act like anything more than the first game's engine with another facelift though). The first Assassin's Creed was actually in a better state in terms of animation quality, and had less glitches than this game does.Graphically, each individual frame looks amazing. Screenshots show off the incredible detail in the game, but when you watch all the games in the series in action, the positive impression unravels. From the first game on, each game has more detail on-screen, but with choppier animations because of it. One of the biggest points in favour of the original was the fluid way Altaîr moved. That major selling point has been diminished as the series has grown.Compared with most games outside the series, even the worst Assassin's Creed release is still very fluid, with all the animations tying together quite neatly, but the only game in the series which AC3 compares favourably with in this regard is Revelations.Along with the graphical problems, there are issues with clipping. The player character and some NPCs sometimes fall through the ground, move through walls and other objects, and just generally fail to react with anything like the realistic physics the game usually tries to work with.In spite of all that, I won't say the single player experience is bad - the problems with it, while annoying at times, aren't common enough to completely ruin the experience. There have been other games I've enjoyed with worse bugs. But don't buy it for the multiplayer, and there's more reason to expect bug fixes in Kingdoms of Amalur (the developers no longer exist) than there is for anything with the Ubisoft brand. If it weren't for the aggressively unhelpful attitude of their "support" service, I'd probably rate this 3 or 4 stars, but when customers are not merely being ignored, but pushed away for trying to help the company improve their products, even the single solitary star I'm rating this with seems like a generous offering.

One of my favorite AC games.
19 November 2022

This Assassin’s Creed won’t be for everyone if you’ve only played the newer titles. I’ve been playing since the first title released and the start of this game can be off putting for new fans. It is very slow to get going and not open like the trailers might have you believe with big battles. This AC has more of an emphasis on the storytelling and taking time to set up plot relationships.

I have not played my copy yet, but I have installed it. Too busy playing through the Ezio collection right now. I lent it to a friend though, got to see it in action that way. I played the original on the PlayStation 3 a while back, and did enjoy it despite the issues that everyone complained about at the time. I never finished the game back then, so when I do play it, I will get a chance to play through the entire of it in this remastered form. I never was unlucky enough to deal with bugs, but I did mostly agree that the writing was “meh” and some story choices were odd. I will say they did liven up the lighting, which is a double edged sword. Lighting on characters faces makes them look a little bit artificial. I will say they did liven up the lighting, which is a double edged sword. Lighting on characters faces makes them look a little bit artificial. But the lighting on the vast surrounding area does look much better than it used to in the original game. I can’t speak on mechanic tweaks that have changed since I have not played through it yet myself. I would just let people understand that it’s going to have the same inherent flaws that the original game had, as well as the bugs being relatively the same from what I have heard. I have not yet seen any bugs occur watching my friend play, just like with the original one. Will update my review once I play through the game myself. For now, though, I can say it is somewhat better than the original, but in someways, not quite as much of an upgrade as it could’ve been (ie lighting effect on faces). It does include liberation and all the AC three DLC, which is a huge plus since I never got around to either of those the first time around. And I think if you can find it at a good price ($20 right now) it’s worth it if you don’t totally abhor the divisive choices this developers took with this game

The graphics are decent but they don’t quite match the latest AC games. There are also numerous graphic glitches and things of that nature that older games are known for.In a lot of ways, these two games remind me of the Ezio collection that got me hooked onto the AC games. With that being said, like the Ezio collection, the gameplay controls and environment interaction and movement feel awkward to me as compared to the much smoother Origins, Odyssey, etc. Fighting/stealth is definitely not as smooth, but I try to keep in mind that this game is much older than what I have been used to playing in recent months, so I am willing to be a little more forgiving in that respect. The tutorial seems to be a bit of an afterthought for these two games, but at least there is a basic explanation of the game. The menus are a bit cumbersome, but not enough to be too annoying to utilize.Maybe these games are not as big as the most recent AC games, there is still lots to see and do, especially since both games include all of its content. It is interesting to explore the varies areas around the cities. There is a variety of different quests to do throughout and has the familiarity of what I am used to doing in AC games. Of course, there is some of the boring collectable stuff and some meaningless side quests that can make it a bit of a choir to complete. I am not a bit multi-player fan, so that is not much of a factor for me.One small frustration is the occasional crash of the game on my PS4. I would expect a bit of a smoother port of these remasters without major hiccups.Although I am not quite familiar with the original, I am glad they have made some game improvements (based on what I have read) that would have probably been extremely frustrating.Being a remaster, those that have played the original and liked it will most likely enjoy this one, but the game is still with some frustrations that should have been fixed with the update. Overall, I like this and I am satisfied to get a chance to play these when I didn’t originally. They do show their age in gameplay and other issues though.3.5 stars
