100% Not Worth it for PS5

PLEASE READ So I have been using Astro's for gaming for as long as I can remember. I bought my A40 headset along with my PS4 when the console came out and I still use them to this day, I love them. I just bought the Gen 4 A50's for my PS5 expecting to have the same experience and I was massively disappointed. Do not believe the packaging at all, they were not designed for the PS5, they were designed for the PS4 so in order for them to "work" on the PS5 you need to buy an adapter that will run you an additional $40. After I got the mess of cables and adapters connected, (you have to use all USB ports by the way for this to "work" so no room for USB external drives) I turned them on, the games sound great, music sounds great, mic sounds great, everything I would expect out of Astro. I go to put my PS5 into rest mode, and the charging dock shuts off. Apparently there is a known issue that is very much so not spoken about where the USB ports on the playstation are not powered enough to keep the charging dock powered on in rest mode, completely defeating the purpose of having a wireless headset with a charging dock, and you can't just plug the power into a wall socket because it has to run through the console because the data for the headset is also run through the USB. I tried everything, changing power save settings on the console, updating the software for the headset online, doing a hard reset on the headset... unplugging and plugging it back in...nothing. The headset is simply not made for this console and Astro simply tried to come up with some cheap fix that would make them work which failed. Don't get me wrong the headset itself is absolutely amazing and if the absolute nightmare of cables and setting changes and the fact that the dock does not work at all wasn't an issue I would keep them, Im disappointed. Moral of the story the headset is 100% NOT compatible with the PS5 unless you want to go out and mess with a bunch of wires and adapters and extra third party cable splitters which is not the point of a WIRELESS HEADSET on top of the fact that THE CHARGING DOCK DOES NOT WORK WITH THE PS5..... I have owned them for less than 48 hours and I plan on returning them as soon as possible.

Sure, the sound-quality is fantastic, especially if you pair it with a soundcard. However there appears to be a lot of minor issues that happen from time-to-time, especially if you keep charging the headset through the base-station or your PC goes into a quick standby-sort-of-mode. The mic-quality is pretty meh... via recording it sounds very odd (worse than the previous version for sure). It almost sounds dull. I also had plenty of my colleagues complain they either didn't understand or hear me at all because I wasn't literally almost shouting into the headset. A quiet voice isn't picked up properly even if you almost shove the mic in your move. The optical cable doesn't hold too well but that's probably part of the cable itself. Charging the headset directly is terrible. The cable doesn't fit properly. The provided cable for the base-station once again is too short and should for sure be longer. How on earth is this headset still not using USB-C? On top of that, the base-station very often lags, meaning it doesn't charge properly, the lights literally "lag" and the sound through the headset stutters. The only way to solve it is via reboot (solved it every time so far). For the price, the headset is very bad. Somewhat functional but comes with a bunch of bugs.

Could have been much better.

I love and dislike this headset at the same time. Pros: -The sound is amazing -Very comfortable and breathable -Long battery life, have never had them die. -Again the sound quality is just so good. Cons: -Very expensive and not worth the price -Not the best build quality, there is a foam piece connected to some plastic at the top of the head. The plastic piece is glued onto the rest of the headset and this glue has already separated. Have not dropped the headset at all and been very gentle with it. Now sometimes the plastic with the foam falls out when I am wearing them. Should not happen for this expensive of a headset. -You have to pay for adobe software for surround sound. Each time i set them in it it takes me around 30 seconds of wiggling it so it actually charges. Overall I would have expected much better for paying this amount. Highly recommend looking at other options before buying these.

So to sum up the audio quality is not bad but for the price the lack of innovation in the many years this headset has been out just doesnt cut it any more . With other competitors just outdoojg them in so many areas it is sad to aay i am probably going to have to buy another brand . For the 350$ alot of good headsets with or without dacs exist. Amd again headband issue sound auality being ok comfort they run hot on my head unlike other brands . And lmowing the a40 tr sounds so much better for alot less makes me kind of want those but with the converter problem again and other companies offering usb and a dac and interchangable batteries might be first year i leave astros and it is sad to me i even had their controller for awhile till i got ps5. Only thing i didnt get was lack of mavro capability on that or mods being able to be added . But thats not thos product.

Good initially, dead after 9 months.

The A50s initially worked great and the sound quality was amazing after changing the mixer presets. However there is a terrible problem with the base station and eventually the headset does not recognize the station and will no longer charge. After overnight charging the headset software will say something like “80% charge” within 5 minutes the headset will die and restarting the software will read “0% charge” because it was actually never pairing and charging on the base station. When addressing this with Astro you will be instructed to clean the pins, update the firmware, or reinstall the command center. I’m a PC and the firmware will never update and constantly read that the update failed. I recommend staying far away from this “premium” headset because you will need another pair within 9 months if you have my experience. Summary: Worked extremely well for about 9 months and now unusable. All attempted remedies didn’t fix it. The command center firmware is terrible to work with, poorly supported, and you may or may not be able to update it. Do not recommend.

Good quality headphones with a slight issue when c

Everything about these headphones screams quality. From the metal frames to the microphone, all of it is a quality item. The sound is superior to most other headphones I’ve listen through and the way that it adapts itself to the PS5 is pretty flawless actually. My wife certainly appreciate them more than me I think just basically because she doesn’t have to listen to the games. They’re very comfortable around the ears, I will say that I do sweat a little in them and I just think that’s because the fit is so good. All in all they were really good headphones. I would say my only complaint would be that using the stand, requires you to leave the PS5 on in order for them to charge. I would say my only complaint would be that using the stand, requires you to leave the PS5 on in order for them to charge. Whenever I am done playing I always put my PS5 in sleep mode and after about five minutes it shuts off. Well if I’ve used my headphones for a couple hours and they’re only quarter full, they won’t charge once the PS5 shuts off. So to get around that, I plug them into a separate cord that is plugged into the wall and just lay them next to the dock. It kind of eliminates the need for the dock which, is part of the convenience of having them, being able to just place the headphones in the dock to charge. I’m sure there’s some way around this, and I’ll probably figure it out but for now I just plug them in. So because of that I’m only going to give it a good rating as opposed to excellent even though I really think they’re pretty close to an excellent set of headphones when it comes to sound, fit, and durability. Because of the work around I have to use to charge them, that’s why it’s getting a good rating. If someone can tell me what I need to do to charge them with the PS5 off, that will fix my dilemma.

Heavily disappointed and confused by the reviews
10 January 2023

I am very confused how this headset has so many great reviews as I am completely disappointed in it, especially since I know how the predecessor was (I had two of those). I even sent in my previous headset and while the USB interface on the headset itself is fixed in the new one, it still shows the same random disconnecting issues like the one did before I sent it in. I manually run a driver update and while it was installed, it was still shown to be the old driver. The Astro Command Center to manage the headset just straight up doesn't even recognize my headset. It is also known to be a terrible software (according to reviews) and doesn't even seem to be supported anymore (it feels like). It is also known to be a terrible software (according to reviews) and doesn't even seem to be supported anymore (it feels like). The disconnects are randomly happening because the base station bugs out (LEDs look like they're "lagging") and the ONLY way to fix it is by rebooting the PC. Rarely it helps to simply unplug the USB cable and plug it back in but mostly the issue remains the same. The microphone quality is also way worse than from the previous headsets, however the audio quality in general is still top-notch. The battery power is also way longer than 16 hours as advertised, I have yet to manage to completely run it down. For the price-tag I absolutely do NOT recommend to buy this headset simply because of the issues I'm facing. Also why are the cables still this short? Why isn't a second USB cable provided to charge the headset directly in case battery really runs out?

Lets start out the the good for starters, its lightweight with minimal clamping force so its fairly comfortable to wear, and having a base deck to charge the headset is a cool concept, the fact that i can switch between xbox mode and pc mode is pretty cool, and the wireless connection has a pretty strong connection going to the other end of my apartment while other headset couldn't even go to the next room. And sadly thats about it for the good about the headset... I guess lets go to the bad. The connection, now i know i just complemented it but its also pretty bad, it makes a tiking noise and the volume of the tiking noise varrys on the content your on, game/yt/Spotify, and it tiks the loudest on yt, and these tiks aren't just annoying rhe actually do hurt ... MoreLets start out the the good for starters, its lightweight with minimal clamping force so its fairly comfortable to wear, and having a base deck to charge the headset is a cool concept, the fact that i can switch between xbox mode and pc mode is pretty cool, and the wireless connection has a pretty strong connection going to the other end of my apartment while other headset couldn't even go to the next room. The connection, now i know i just complemented it but its also pretty bad, it makes a tiking noise and the volume of the tiking noise varrys on the content your on, game/yt/Spotify, and it tiks the loudest on yt, and these tiks aren't just annoying rhe actually do hurt sometimes and the only way to fix it is by unplugging the base and plugging it back in. The audio is pretty bad for $300, the $100 Microsoft headphones are almost as good as it, the mids are fine, the highs bled into the mids alot and the lows aren't there, there is poor base its just mid, even changing the eq on its software it still didn't help, the only thing that made the audio good, was the dolby atmos app. Enough with the audio, the mic, oh god the mic, you think for a $300 headset the mic would blow the roof off compared to a $60 headset right, wrong dead wrong, the quality it literally the same, only thing that the a 50s mic brings to the table is the ability to hear every little tiny movement you do, almost as bad as the artics 9x. Oh yeah you know how i said it pretty light weight and low clamping force and fairly comfortable well its also a dubble whammy, the low clamping force means that just one head shake the headset is gone, and if you where glasses even thin frames like mine it whill make a weird squeaky noise, the top headband pops out really easy and the top head bands pad squished to none after a month. Why doesn't this headset have Bluetooth!! Its $300, even the cheapest headsets have Bluetooth. Oh the base deck, terrible, ehy include a base deck that has no function besuded to charge, see what battery percentage, see what mode your on (xbox/pc) and to see what preset your on, why does the a40s have all that plus volume control but not the a 50s... That makes not sense. Also, why doesn't this have a 3.5m jack, if you run out of battery you have to wait an hour to even be at 50%. Speaking of battery i should mention the fact that the actual charging for this heaset is so finicky, you have to fiddle around to make sure its on correctly and wait for the lights to pop up but sometimes even when all that seems good it still wont charge... Overall this headset is really bad, you'll honestly be better off with the Microsoft headsets and the turtle beach volume control, i cant even recommend this, heck i can't even recommend a single astro if there top of the line most expensive one is absolute mid.

Research common issues online before purchasing!

Brief overview: Solid headphones with EXTREMELY flimsy head cushion I've done quite a bit of research for new headphones since my old ones finally stopped working after 3 years. I was torn between this product and the Arctis Pro Wireless. Arctis is extremely difficult to find anywhere, so I compromised and went in and picked this up from my local BB. As soon as I finished unpacking the headset and plugged in the (admittedly sleek) charging base, I put the headphones on for the first time and felt the top cushion just pop right out of place. I do have a very slightly larger head than average but nothing that has ever caused a problem on any other headset I've ever used. The headset was at it's longest extension and the cushion barely touched the top of my head and ... MoreBrief overview: Solid headphones with EXTREMELY flimsy head cushion I've done quite a bit of research for new headphones since my old ones finally stopped working after 3 years. The headset was at it's longest extension and the cushion barely touched the top of my head and just popped out of the two small holes that are supposed to hold it in place. No amount of fiddling will get it to STAY in place while it is being worn. The slots will click back into their correct place, but as soon as the cushion touches the top of my head it just pops off. After some googling, I found this is not an uncommon complaint, but it is something I did not come across while researching this headset, so I was taken by surprise for sure! Normally this would not be a dealbreaker, but the headset is extremely uncomfortable without the top headcushion. The support website for Astro products is, quite frankly, a joke. In my opinion, they are hiding or obfuscating the correct place to go to submit a product warranty claim or request, and the only way I found was to submit a 'support ticket' that will maybe be answered in 2-3 business days. Additionally, I can call during regular business hours, but only for technical support? I'm not sure how customers are supposed to get fast product support from this manufacturer. I will try to be fair and give the pros I've noticed: -Great sound quality for movies, TV, and gaming -Charging station is pretty cool looking and compact -Headset fits nicely (when the top cushion is in place) -Mic is unobtrusive and flexible, with great Mic Monitor setting that can be switched on and off -Headset fits very nicely on the charging base and unlike other reviews I've seen, it is not difficult to get it charging at all -Charging progress bar on the base -Easy to adjust height of the top of the headset A final small complaint I have, I was under the impression that this required no wires besides the power plug, as in, no need to connect it to my laptop/PC or Xbox. Well, the power cord must plug directly into whatever you are using, meaning that for those who wish to have as few wires as possible may not be pleased. All in all, if this is what $300 gets you in 2022, you may want to spend your money elsewhere if you don't want to try your luck on a faulty cushion (or as some others have mentioned a potentially faulty charging system!) I will likely not be waiting 2-3 business days for a response from the manufacturer and returning these to BB, I recommend if you're still reading this review that you look into Arctis Pro Wireless, which I will be buying after this experience.

You Will Not Regret Going Wireless
20 July 2022

This product is an amazing piece of technology. Its ergonomic design fits perfectly on my head and does not create any pain from my eye glasses like most other headsets do.. Once you switch from a wireless to a wired, you will never switch back again. I always thought wireless would be an issue since I play video games and the delay would cause problems, but that is not the case with this headset. I do not even notice the delay at all and it makes gaming so convenient without a cord. The wireless range is efficient too!!! I was talking with my friends on discord from my kitchen, WHILE MY SETUP IS UPSTAIRS!!! The sound is definitely top tier compared to other headsets in the similar price range. You can really hear the full 7.1 surround sound with this headset The ... MoreThis product is an amazing piece of technology. Once I got that part down, this headset has been perfect
