One of the best higher-mid range wifi routers you can get. Its clear to me Asus put a lot of effort into their UI. Its feature packed. Reception is good and fast. It is also
configurable for gaming which is a huge plus. There are 3 models in the AX86 range. There is the RT-AX86 S, the U, and the U Pro. Make sure you know which one you're
getting as the price difference is not insignificant.

This is the pro version of the Asus 86S/U lineup meaning it has more memory and processors than the 86S. When you buy 2 of these you can set one up as an AP access point or AiMesh to extend the range serious distances and increase speed of devices further away or seperated by walls and floors. In the VPN Fusion section, create multiple VPN connections with your VPNs ovpn config files and assign devices like TVs and laptops to whichever connection you want. I have been using an Apple Aiport Extreme router for years. My internet speeds always seemed low, but I never did anything about it. Long story short, a speed test showed that I got great speeds when I plugged my Mac's ethernet cable directly into the modem. When I plugged it into the Airport Exteme, I was getting less than half the speed I should have been getting. After doing research, I came up with this router. Installation was simple. You turn off the modem, connect the router, turn it on, and install it through a mobile app. I couldn't believe how easy it was. And now I'm getting wi-fi speeds of 570 Mbps on a 500 Mbps account. That's in the same room as the router. At the other end of the house, it's about 466 Mbps.I'm not a gamer. Maybe this router is ... MoreI have been using an Apple Aiport Extreme router for years. Fast and Reliable

I have had several ASUS routers in the past and this one is the fastest and most reliable of them all. It has a fast quad core processor that can easily handle all 60+ devices that I have connected to it. I can see a significant difference in how fast it receives and sends data to our iPads, phones, IP cameras, streaming devices, game consoles, TVs and many other devices that we have. The user interface is well organized and similar to other ASUS routers. It has features that are for novice to very advanced users. For the most part, you don't need to make any changes to the default settings except, like all wireless routers, you configure your wi-fi network names and keys - both 2.4 and 5 GHz. I have been using previously AX88U and was amazed by the performance. Had to move to a new place and got an Ubiquiti UDR which was a real disappointment and decided to go again with Asus. Kind of regret giving a chance to Ubiquiti but now I am happy. This router has all you need for daily usage and even more when they have now finally added VLAN management to it - something which even their high end routers lack. You might not need it at first - but if you need it some day - no need to get managed switches - you have it already (currently only in beta firmware, waiting for final release). Recommended over the Mesh.
15 June 2023
So far it's great. I upgraded from a 2013 model Asus with similar price point for the year. This is a nice upgrade and faster. I bought the Zenwifi AX3000 and it would not really work right. This one is faster than the mesh all over my house. Backyard and furthest point from the router I get around 300mbps out of 1000 up and down. In the house its 800 to 400 mbps. The Zenwifi was rarely above 400 mbps and in the backyard it was around 30 mbps. Overall, good upgrade, Definitely recommend over the zenwifi which is around this same price point. This has more features also.... Show more

Working Flawlessly!
15 April 2023
Have been using this for just over a month now and have not encountered any problems whatsoever so far! Despite some of the other mentions about buggy app/router, have not personally experienced at all. Previous router was also an Asus and it worked great as well…only reason to upgrade was to capitalize on the higher speeds that my plan allowed. Had been eyeing this router for months, but ended up missing the boat and eventually just bit the bullet on the pro version as had rewards to use up. I don’t necessarily think I needed the pro version so can’t attest to whether it makes any difference in terms of performance. All in all, so far don’t have any complaints about this router and it’s been a trusted brand in my household.... Show more
