This device is a absolute powerhouse - I use it to share files to all my devices..at home and on the go. It shares all my movies and movies to all the smart tv's in the house . And more importantly it shares my 4k movies without a hiccup . I also have my music and comic book collection shared on here . I took out the 4GB or ram it came with and upgraded it to 16GB ( 8GB PC4 19200 x 2 ) . It works well. What makes this appealing is the software...its easy to install and there is an abundance of it to choose from. Most of it will look familiar to people in the linux world.

Great NAS with lots of options and tons of support for backups, storage, and serving video and audio. It has dual 2.5Gb Ethernet ports and supports up to 4 NVMe SSD's as well as 4 disk drives so performance is excellent. I use it as a Channels DVR for my SiliconDust 4-channel tuners so I can watch recorded shows anywhere on any device. I also use it to backup Mac laptops, Windows PC's, and store large files remotely to save disk space. Faster than my older Synology NAS. Very pleased with it so far.

Recommended. Easy to set up and manage, great interface and you can add expansion boxes to make it and make it have up to 16 bays. No complaints.
I would recommend this device for home use or small businesses. In my case I use it for a small business of 20 people. I am definitely considering this for my own use at home. I was surprised when I saw all the optional features that could be enabled. I would like to thank Asustor for this apprently lovingly crafted device.
Hard Drives do make noise, but I put the OS on the M2. I do like the AS5404T, but the AS5402T was all I needed.
I definitely recommend this NAS system to anyone wanting to store large amounts of multimedia. The critics always discuss Qnap & Synology but those NAS systems don't have the features Asustor provides. I think this Asustor NAS is more flexible.
Ehhh, I would not recommend at this time. When I figure this out, if I figure this out, I will update my review and try and add some tips ans directions for other people.
I wouldn't recommend the product given the poor security on the software.
This thing does work with linux although I had to run the windows app to figure out how to connect to the NAS. The included quick start only showed me how to hook up the instrument and the user guide was windows/mac centered. The lessons learned were: 1) initially the way to connect to this device is: [ip address]:8000 2) If you do not use blank dis driven when they are expected, the NAS will not work as expected 3) the web interface on the NAS seems to be complete. If I did not include port 8000 in the ip address, I did not get a response from the NAS. Just providing some helpful info to those in the Linux world.
