Great stage and studio mic! Keeps up with the best from other cardioid dynamic mic manufacturers. I've used mics for over 60 years on pro sound jobs. This is one of the best yet.
Stronger low end than a Beta58 or AKG D5. Good overall sound. Standout feature is its directionality. Its pickup off the side and rear is nearly dead so it is working where nothing else has. I need to mic a pianist but she wants it back a ways so clear of her music. Super cardioid and even shotgun mics did not give me nearly as much gain before feedback as this does.
I used the microphone for our sweet/soft lady singer in front of our 18 piece powerhouse big band. The sound man said said he had three times the gain on the Audix when compared to our other microphones! No feedback problem, either. Wow.
I've had this mic for about 4 years now thinking somehow I would learn to love it. The truth is that even though it does NOT feedback, I have to really put my mouth right on it (I don't like to eat the mic)for the sound to come close to what I want to hear. I'm picky, I know.... but I guess I expected more.
I use in the studio for live sounding tracks. perfect for recording low volume instruments like flutes. has high out put and can handle up to 144 dB S.P.L. one of the best vocal mics I ever used. requires some getting used to because it has little mid boost like most dynamic vocal mics but is more natural and flat ready for effects or raw tracks for later mastering. Buy it!
