One of the few clothes lines actually made in Australia and delivery time was excellent due to suppliers/distributors in 5 states.A solid powder coated metal cabinet with plastic base so thoughts are to try and install the cabinet out of the direct sunlight, like under eaves or on a wall at the edge of the roof line. The 2 mounting slots on the cabinet are horizontal, if one slot was vertical (maybe the one behind the spool), this could be slightly easier to instal. Could be an issue though with strength? One mounting bolt is behind the tension spool so unable to access with a socket. i.e. spanner only.Good gap between lines, however as there are no spools containing the individual lines, the gap can vary as the 5 lines are wound onto one roller. Nor a big problem ... MoreOne of the few clothes lines actually made in Australia and delivery time was excellent due to suppliers/distributors in 5 states.A solid powder coated metal cabinet with plastic base so thoughts are to try and install the cabinet out of the direct sunlight, like under eaves or on a wall at the edge of the roof line. The 2 mounting slots on the cabinet are horizontal, if one slot was vertical (maybe the one behind the spool), this could be slightly easier to instal. Nor a big problem when extended to 7m+.Takes a little perseverance to equal out the lines to the same tension but easy to adjust.20 year Guarantee only applies to the 25mm square bar at the remote/weather end. Probably not an issue as it's the bit in the weather with the rest including lines having a 12 month guarantee, hence the thoughts about cabinet location -see above!Lines are quite substantial, however time may tell if left out when not in use!

Seems to be a reasonable quality product, but my farm manager, who's normally very practical, has had trouble with securing the pulled-out end in to timber at top of wall of house. He'll have to secure it to the house brick wall lower down, which will be fine hopefully when he finds time! It has twice snapped back violently to its cover, pulling him over with it! I (having been away for a couple of weeks, hence late reply) have used it once successfully (on the nearer two lines as the line slipped sideways and I couldn't reach the other three lines - this of course will be put to rights when he attaches the thing correctly and at a height I can manage! No criticisms at all.In fact, for some reason a second line was delivered to the gatepost of my farm a couple of ... MoreSeems to be a reasonable quality product, but my farm manager, who's normally very practical, has had trouble with securing the pulled-out end in to timber at top of wall of house. What would you like me to do with it?Actually I'd recommend it to anyone -there's no doubt it's superior to the previous old version (which collapsed regularly, clothes and all). Once we've installed this properly it'll give me pleasure to use it.It is a pity I'm filling in the review at this stage, and I think I'd have "Excellent" for all queries once

Hi,Had a bit of difficulty adjusting the tension on each of the lines. It appeared that the central line was the shortest and I think I now understand why. When trying to pull the whole assembly in and out the lines criss-crossed over each other which was very frustrating. I think that guides on the drum should be fitted to prevent this from happening. Once the centre line was taught without untying it I proceeded to adjust the others and eventually adjusted the others accordingly following the instructions. I found that when I went to retract the assembly you really need to hold the bar straight and even to avoid the lines crossing. Apart from this all was good and will need to readjust individual line tensions once line is used for a while.

My experience was excellent. I was told It would take 7-9 days to receive but I got it delivered in about three. The unit was easy to fit but the designers should review the design of the holding brackets where the unit is bolted to the wall. The holding bolts are mounted on side entry brackets; which means the unit has to be inserted from the side. If the brackets were designed so the bolts could be placed in the wall and the unit lowered on to the bolts it would make installation simpler as the unit could be lowered on to the bolts and then the bolts tightened. As it is now you have to insert one side of the unit, then fit the bolt into the other bracket while supporting the unit. I find the lines tend to sag a bit but I guess over time and tightening the lines will sag less so. Very pleased to deal with this company and will be happy to recommend them to others.
Order and delivery great, love the grey colour.Son in law did this online. He and husband installed.looks good. They said its as tight as can be but I find that wet towels and other heavier items cause the line to drop down a great dea and its very flexible when I thought it would be tighter..They keep telling me its as firm as it can be.It replaced an old line that had a cotton/string interior with plastic tubing. This was at least 20years old and the fraying of the line then caused the line to drop.Previously it was tight.Asked them if they think they installedIt correctly and told yes that’s as tight as it can go(husband). Will ask S-I-Lnext time he is here.Im sure it could be adjusted. So if this can be little tighter I am very happy with the product.
I read the reviews and almost didn’t buy this but glad I did.I’ve had extending clothes lines before and they’re always a compromise.Bought it to dry clothes undercover when the weathers bad so it’s not going to be used a lot. This ones good so far. Had to adjust the tension on the lines first time out but from experience that’s an ongoing job with these as the lines always stretch differently depending on the weight on them. It was very easy to tighten the lines to even them out by the way.If looks good, was easy to install and has a 3 stage locking mechanism that’s pretty cool. It’s either off so you can pull out the line, one way with a ratchet so you can tension the line without it unwinding if you accidentally slip and let go and of course locked. So ... MoreI read the reviews and almost didn’t buy this but glad I did.I’ve had extending clothes lines before and they’re always a compromise.Bought it to dry clothes undercover when the weathers bad so it’s not going to be used a lot. This ones good so far. This clothesline is solidly built and I love the fact that it fits five lines into a compact (80 cm) unit. It seems so much more sturdy than its competitor (formerly Australian made but not now) which I found kept breaking. The Austral retracts easily and is easy to hook onto the wall mounting. Very satisfied.
Had to buy a new clothes line when our old one of 20 years finally gave up. Needed to be a certain size to fit the existing poles so ordered the Austral as the only one that would fit. I was happy with it. Tension didn't seem quite as good but nit picking. The old line never needed to be retracted, so set and forget.Year later, we moved house and decided to replace the old, damaged fold down clothes line with a retractable. Did some research and found the Austral to be the best pick (Aussie made too). It stretches across 4.5m in our property. It is easy to pull out and return to the discreet housing, so back yard doesn't have a permanent ugly, big clothes line when not in use.. Purchasing a new Austral Retractaway 50 Clothesline from Lifestyle Clotheslines was a breeze. I placed the order on-line and got a quick confirmation email with an expected date for delivery. Later, I received further updates on the delivery. Previously, I had gone to the hills for a clothesline but the promised quality wasn’t there and the multiple retractor mechanisms always needed patient tweaking. Auzzie made Austral made much more sense and it is a real beauty. It is sturdy, no buckling sheet iron, the spring retractor mechanism works well. The installation instructions were easy to understand but I did also view a couple of YouTube clips that confirmed the actions. Now my laundry day is the breeze. Solar and wind powered drying works perfectly.
No problems at all. However you may wish to passthese comments onto the manufacturers. This was a replacement of a retractable line I installed 30 plus years ago. My house is weatherboard construction. Thirty plus years ago I bolted a 6"x 1" hardwood plank into the vertical studs. The left side ****** on the unit poses no problems with installing a galvanized coach screw. However, the right hand side does pose difficulties in inserting the coach screw because the twist lock handle adjustment on the unit protrudes over the horizontal orientation and thus insertion of the coach bolt. Future design of the product should include a horizontal direction onto the securing bolt.
