This product is probably the first of "its" kind for curly hair. The salon I go to introduced this a few months ago, and I have been waiting for its introduction. I have been using a variety of Aveda products to encourage curl which I could control and always enjoyed the end result. I had to use about five after shampoo products to get there, and again a few of those daily until the next shampoo. BUT, this is different. It produces a more relaxed curl with fewer products and it is refreshed daily with the new daily conditioner. If I used the original products I had been using, the new daily conditioner does not do the same job. It is really made for this new Glee product. My mom sent me a sample and I was initially skeptical because I had been unimpressed with previous curly products from Aveda. Color me surprised when my curls came out defined and less frizzy and lasted all day! Initially, I was applying the gel, scrunching, and plopping for 20 minutes, then diffusing until dry. Yes, there is a distinct crunch, but after 'scrunching out the crunch' my curls are still defined and frizz-free and stayed that way most of the way.Recently, I've been experimenting with a Denman brush and my curls are tighter and more defined. Like many curlies out there, I have a cabinet full of products that I've tried, but don't work...I'm so happy to have found a product and a routine that gives me defined, soft, frizz-free curls! Excellent gel for wavy hair, highly recommend. However, for best results section your hair whilst wet, coat each section generously. Scrunch hair. Then scrunch with microfibre tower to dry, but not completely dry unless using air dr. I prefer to use a diffuser. This method works for my wavy hair, and everyone is different.

I use this product prior to curling with my flat iron. I found all the other styling creams/serums, etc. are too heavy so the curls don't last or leave me with greasy hair. This gel is non sticky and allows me to use something that will hold the curls without getting frizzy after an hour or so. I can usually get 3 days out of my hair without washing it (I do a few touch ups when needed). After curling I can easily run my fingers thru my hair without my fingers or hair feeling sticky. I haven't use it for my natural waves yet but will try in the summer when it's humid outside.
I have coarse straight Asian hair with some bends at the end. I was looking for a hair product that would give me waves. I’m very happy with the results from applying Aveda curly Gelee. I plopped my hair and applied the gelee to my damp hair and scrunched it. I let it air dry and I ended up with nice waves, and no frizz. The next 2 days I spritzed my hair with water to revive day 2 and day 3 hair. The product held the waves. This product is great. I’m makes me like my hair again.
I got this as a free sample from an order a while ago. I traveled to Boston in February and brought this with me because it was a travel size. I was honestly so impressed. I was just making do with hotel shampoo and conditioner and resigned myself to my hair probably looking crappy and dry the whole time I was there. But to my surprise this gave my hair a lot of moisture and curl/wave definition. I have fine, 2c hair. I was so impressed by how my hair looked all trip, despite wind, snow, dryness, and wearing a hood most of the time. I loved it so much that I am buying a bigger bottle.

I tried Be Curly, but it was just too heavy for my hair and tended to dry it out as well. Last winter, I was running into issues with my hair getting so dry that it would just hang limply. It's blond and fine but with a raised cuticle that can make it coarse and lets moisture get pulled out pretty easily. Scalp Benefits really wasn't working too well for me anymore, and Blue Malva, while wonderful, was stripping too much moisture during the winter. Well, I decided to try Nutriplenish, and it was perfect. Plus, the aroma! Those ones that others describe as peppery or citrusy just smell like citronella to me and make me ill. After trying the shampoo and conditioner through the summer, I decided to get some of the curl gelée to help with winter dryness. It's excellent! I put a drop the size of a pea in my palm, rub my hands together, and then rub it through my hair after I've used my Volumizing and Brilliant sprays. I could see my hair just start to jump up in ringlets that dried with just the right amount of wave without getting nuts. The travel size will last you a very long time, but I bought the full-size tube the second time just for economy's sake. Definitely a great product for those of us with looser waves who want some bounce during the winter and help with control during the summer.
I've tried more gels than I could count from age 8-33 haha. This is my favorite!Doesn't weigh my hair down, lets the curls spring up, keeps it moisturized, and touchable. Also somehow has great hold!Only downside is that it doesn't do great for me in very high humidity climates (like Brazil, Mexico). It seems to lose shape fast and act like it's in hydral fatigue. I swap for Confixor (second favorite gel) in those countries.Otherwise, it's the one product I use year-round regardless of the season changes!Hair type: 2c-3a mix, low to mid porosity, loves protein in high humidity climates and hates it in lower humidity climates, gets weighed down by everything... aka pain in the *** lol.
Nutriplenish Curl Gelee is AWFUL! If you like an oily greasy wet look then you might like the Nutriplenish Curl Gelee. I don't like that look. It ruins my curl. It makes my hair look like it is greasy and wet and is the worst gel I have ever put on my hair. I have thick hair that has a lot of natural curl and is frizzy without a gel. This gel weighs my hair down and actually makes it lose spring in the curl and is more like a wet, wind blown disaster. I like my curls to be defined, really curly, big volume and DRY looking. I am so disappointed. I love Aveda's Nutriplenish shampoo and conditioner and Aveda's Be Curly hair spray but this hair gel is terrible! I should have read the ingredients that say it has castor oil in it.See the attached photo.
My stylist used this on me after my cut. I have a chin length wavy/messy bob style that frizzes easily. The product took out the frizz and left me with the "messy" wavy look I was after. The stylist did blow dry my hair, twisting it around her fingers for "ringlets/waves", which is what I do. I haven't tried it as an air dry product yet. The smell was divine and I kept a nice look to my hairstyle for 2 days. Maybe if the other reviewer had tried scrunching after her hair dried, as I now see is in the directions, it might not have stayed "crunchy". I don't like that either and my hair did not feel that way, even with the texture tonic on top.
