I discovered Aveda Shampure years ago when I was window shopping on Green St in Pasadena. I looked into this fancy schmancy salon and noticed one wall by the cash register had a ton of Aveda products. At the time, Shampure was only $8, but back then, that was pretty expensive for a bottle of shampoo. I also grabbed up this really awesome blue bottle of the Brilliant emollient finishing spray and this really cute roller ball blue oil that smelled like peppermint and camomile. I scored big that day. Although I think Shampure is the only product left of that list, they are still my go-to brand for haircare. Bi recommend them highly.

Aveda, you've broken my heart. I realized this week that Color Control shampoo formula changed so I returned and purchased the Shampure. Granted it's been about 2 years since I've used as the liter tends to last me almost a year and I've stuck with Color Control past few purchases. But I have alternated between the two for over 15 years. The new Shampure is just like Color Control - different consistency, minimal lather, takes 7-10 pumps to work through my hair per wash and then have to wash at least 2-3 more times (I have a lot of hair), and then left the hair at scalp feeling greasy and unclean. I went ahead and dried it last night after washing and knew my hair was still dirty. When I woke this am and brushed my hair, it had feeling like I hadn't washed my hair ... And as others have said, this is NOT the same scent. Not even close. One thing I don't understand, why not offer the Shampure Hair Bar full time? Luckily that was in stock at the salon and I purchased their last 2 bars when I bought the shampoo bottle. This bar is fantastic! I've purchased the past two years when it's been in stock but save it for travel. I used this morning to get the ick out of my hair from last night and my hair feels so clean! Until then, I have to find a new company as your standard shampoos are no longer a viable option.

My hair is fine and during menopause has turned a bit wavy. With that out of the way I have been using Aveda for 20+ years and read all the negative reviews about the changes to the formulation of Shampure. I bought a bottle to try and can tell you that is not leaving my hair heavy, not greasy, just about the same as before. However, the biggest change is the lack of strength in the scent, which is not a 1:1. It used to be a nice sensorial experience to shower with it and now is just meh! The developers should have adjusted the scent or tested further. It is different when you have "all natural" ingredients vs. the previous formulation. Aveda, please do not give a cookie cutter reply and do your homework, we pay pretty penny for your products. Also, do not ... MoreMy hair is fine and during menopause has turned a bit wavy. I had been using Shampure shampoo for the past 22 years. My mother is a hairdresser and turned me onto it. There was absolutely nothing better for my kind of oily prone straight hair. Ever.A couple years ago, I started noticing strange changes in how my hair was acting. For the longest time, I thought it was maybe post partum changes since I had a baby back in 2019. My hair felt flatter after washing than usual, it got greasier faster, and my scalp was getting itchy and needing a wash every other day. When I would wash, I would need to do two rounds just for the shampoo to lather properly after 1st round and for my hair to feel even remotely clean. This is compared to before where it would feel so clean, light, and bouncy after just one round of washing, and I ... MoreI had been using Shampure shampoo for the past 22 years. When I would wash, I would need to do two rounds just for the shampoo to lather properly after 1st round and for my hair to feel even remotely clean. This is compared to before where it would feel so clean, light, and bouncy after just one round of washing, and I could literally go 4-5 days before I needed another wash.I never thought it could have been something else this whole, but when I recently ran out of my latest bottle of shampure, I got on Aveda's website to do a price check and lo and behold, SOOO many reviews about poor performance after a formula change! Everything I experienced makes so much sense now! In hindsight, I even remember noticing at one point that my hair didn't smell like my shampoo as strongly as it used to, but it was so subtle I never gave it deeper thought.I changed my shampoo for the first time since I was 13 years old and immediately noticed a difference. So disappointed in Aveda that they would change the formula after so may decades and not change it back after the poor performance was made crystal clear by their previously loyal customers. I really hope they finally listen and do the right thing. I don't know that I'll ever find a shampoo that worked as well as the OG shampure or made me look as good. I certainly won't be buying it again until they do.
I used Shampure shampoo and conditioner in the past and had wanted to start using it again--I missed the beautiful Shampure aroma! I read these reviews and was worried about wasting money buying the full sized bottles only to learn that Shampure had changed for the worse, so I opted to buy the travel size in an abundance of caution. I can say that I have not been disappointed. My bottles still have the same wonderful scent and the products have left my hair shiny, soft, and light just like I remember from when I used this before. Maybe Aveda has fixed the probleqmsince the previous reviews, or maybe the previous customers got a "bad batch," but whatever the case I am a happy customer!
I've been using Shampure products for two years now and always purchased the smaller bottles at my local salon. I ordered the 1 liter larger bottle from Aveda.com this time since it's much more economical. It arrived and has absolutely no Shampure scent that I've come to love. It smells like plastic. The formulation does seem the same and still washes my hair ok, it's just missing the scent. I called customer service and was issued a refund, but I'm so disappointed that this issue was never flagged during QC and was allowed to be distributed. I'll use the product because I can't stand to waste a whole liter, but I'm so disappointed and have no confidence in ordering another product online without being able to smell it first.
After using Camomile shampoo for 20+ years to shampoo the blonde hair I was born with I ignored the negative reviews and last fall switched to Shampure when Camomile was no longer available. For months I have looked in the mirror and thought "What is wrong with my hair!". I began having to shampoo every other day and my hair was heavy, lifeless, dull even on shampoo day. I'd successfully used the earlier formula of Shampure at times so simply thought my lustrous mane was gone for good. Last weekend I found a large bottle of Camomile shampoo I had stored and forgotten about. After one shampoo my hair is restored to its natural luster and silkiness. I can only think Aveda no longer makes products for light colored natural hair and will search elsewhere for a shampoo ... I didn't heed the warnings of the other's reviews and I'm now kicking myself for it. This formula has changed and it is NOT providing the same results. Not even close. Everything down to the smell has changed. Shampure had left my hair silky, light and soft for almost 10 years and the difference in this new formula was noticed immediately. My hair became dull, lifeless and so tangly. Very disappointed in this sudden change and also the money I spent on these liters. I am all about change and growth, but it seems like there were some very important corners cut to save a little money on Aveda's end.Why did you change it and why wasn't the change public knowledge?- Very very disappointed and previously loyal customer.
I never write reviews but I just read another 5-star review about this product and realised how much I agree. (I'm online to buy another 2x 1L of Shampure shampoo). I was introduced to it by a friend in my 20s when I was working outside in the sun a lot and in despair because my (long) hair was dry and scalp was constantly flaky - no matter which shampoo I tried.Shampure literally transformed my scalp. I have been using it for 2 decades now, and it isn't an exaggeration to say that I've never had a single flake since. I still have long hair - slightly wavy, individually fine strands but a LOT of them, so very thick hair overall - and I only wash my hair twice a week. I use a 50-cent piece worth of Shampure shampoo, and don't worry about conditioner at all, as I use ... I use a 50-cent piece worth of Shampure shampoo, and don't worry about conditioner at all, as I use a leave-in conditioner once my hair is partly dry. The 1L bottle lasts me a year - incredible value for money. And the subtle scent is to die for - friends comment on how lovely the light scent is.I have a good personal hair-dresser these days, who is pretty fussy - and even she approves of the healthy condition of my hair. This is literally the first product I have ever written a review for, but I just realised this product is everything I want in a product:Cruelty-free/ kind to animals (no testing on small furry creatures);Free of parabens and other cancer-linked chemicals;Very good value/quality (you just need such a small amount each time);and with a subtle perfume that is truly beautiful.I buy two 1L bottles at at time when they are on special, and I know I'm good for a couple of years! Truly happy to recommend such a gorgeous and ethical product, which single-handedly saved me from a lifetime of flaky-scalp humiliation and made my hair into something that even a high-end hair-dresser approves of! :)One of the best 'product' finds of my life.
I used Shampure for 25 years and loved it. After they changed the formula (surfactant) and scent, the shampoo did not clean the hair well and the scent did not linger like before, which I really liked. After a day the scent smelled sour. I stopped using the product. After a few years, I read a reviews and it looked like they tried to improve the new formula by changing the surfactant again and adding more scent so I tried it again. It is still terrible. They ruined a great product. If you are in the business of making shampoo and marketing a specific scent and you change the formula of the shampoo and the scent to provide a sub-standard version of both, why manufacture this at all?
